I added two beef sausage links and a layer of shredded cabbage. I used a bigger pan. My pan was still very full. I placed a large jellyroll pan underneath it in the oven. sure it's going to be delicious. The smell is wonderful. Thanks for the recipe... I also slightly cooked my hamburger meat before adding. Thanks for the recipe blessings to you. Update: My family loved it. It was enough for six people to have big servings. Great comfort food. I will make this again. Nice company dish, when you can't think of anything to cook.
I had a friend when I was a kid who's Grandma Maxine used to make this. Hadn't thought of it in years, but when I saw this I knew I had to make it. So good, just like I remembered! Thank you Debbie!
For a Pacific Northwest version, layer (from bottom up) sliced onion, sliced potatoes, white rice, celery, beef, can of kidney beans. Season each layer with tomato soup.
***** Thanks Larry! It was so surprising to me. I wasn't sure it would work out but it was really good. Hope you are doing well. Been trying to watch your videos but you are putting them on so fast. LOL Have a great day!!
thank you for the recipe. It was very good. I used tator tots instead of the potatoes and added a can of corn. Those were the only changed I made. Mine didn't come out runny as yours and I wish it had because mine was a little dry. I will make this again but will try it with potatoes instead and maybe add another green pepper and onions.
Maybe next time you make it you could sprinkle some potato starch (or corn starch or another thickener) on the meat as you are layering. This will help the sauce be more thick in the end. Unless you preferred it more wet, in which case, Yay.
My thanks to you and Tara. I've been racking my brain trying to think of something different to fix and this hits the spot, I can't wait to try it. Of course the potatoes and the beans will drive my sugar right through the top of my head, but it'll b e worth it. ;-) About how much ground chuck did you use?
All your missing to make this meal perfect, is a southern homemade biscuits and a dab of butter, the last thing missing my place setting at your table....lol..lol. just kidding that looks good, your right about being able to change up the recipe to fit your family likes and dislikes, I will be giving this a try, Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Hi Debbie! You do know, if you look on your package of shredded cheese, it has cellulose in it. You know what cellulose is? The recent class-action lawsuit brought against Taco Bell raised questions about the quality of food many Americans eat each day. Chief among those concerns is the use of cellulose (read: wood pulp), an extender whose use in a roster of food products, from crackers and ice creams to puddings and baked goods, is now being exposed. What you're actually paying for -- and consuming -- may be surprising. Cellulose is virgin wood pulp that has been processed and manufactured to different lengths for functionality, though use of it and its variant forms (cellulose gum, powdered cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, etc.) is deemed safe for human consumption, according to the FDA, which regulates most food industry products. The government agency sets no limit on the amount of cellulose that can be used in food products meant for human consumption. The USDA, which regulates meats, has set a limit of 3.5% on the use of cellulose, since fiber in meat products cannot be recognized nutritionally. www.thestreet.com/story/11012915/1/cellulose-wood-pulp-never-tasted-so-good.html So, because I know you are careful what you put in your body you might want to shred your own cheese. Not a sermon, just a thought
Shipwreck casserole has been around for ages and ages but it seems that everybody has a slightly different recipe. :-) that's called Saucy not runny and it's a spoon out casserole it's not going to come out in a square ever.

Pinto beans you brought them to life in this video! Wow! Looks good!. Thanks for sharing!
So different God's Willing I will try this recipe looks so good
I usualky precook & season the beef & drain. Many add pasta (mac & cheese box) to soak up excess moisture. Otherwise sounds good.
Brilliant!
Looks good debbie!!!!

Shipwreck casserole has been around for ages and ages but it seems that everybody has a slightly different recipe. :-) that's called Saucy not runny and it's a spoon out casserole it's not going to come out in a square ever.
You need some bread for sopping up that liquid! Wouldn’t bbq baked beans be good in it?
Would like to know where the written recipe is so that I can write it down ? Thanks for your time & info;
I'm sorry but I don't have the written recipe for this. This was a while ago before I started putting recipes in the description box. Sorry about that. Have a wonderful Christmas!!
dragons* 88 might look on Pinterest.
Was it good? Looks a bit off putting! Maybe a good idea would be to drain the beans first? Have you made this a second time? Let me know, hun.
What are the measurement amounts?
it is supposed to be made with very simple ingredients and not a lot of spicing because it was created by someone who had very little in the house.
Yep really good stuff. If you're diabetic, it's not good for you and cheese isn't needed in this case.
Thumbs up!
TitoJorge Thank you. It was a good one dish dinner. :)
..
NO COOKING WITH ALUMINUM FOIL :P
