quick question. that play with arraez at home plate. Doesn't the catcher need to provide a clear path the plate for the runner? Because the catcher didn't, he had the lane to the plate completely blocked, which was why Arraez ended his slide early and jammed his knee. I feel that play should have been challenged. You have to protect the runner too. If the catcher is going to block the plate like that, then the runner has the right to barrel into him and take him out, a la Anthony Rizzo to Austin Hedges, as I remember.
As long as the catcher has the ball by the time he comes into contact with the runner it’s alright. Had the ball not come to him in time it would have been breaking the rules. I think it’s one of those things that’s also just up to the discretion of the umps sometimes too
