- This plant calls our name every summer. It is gorgeous and does so much better in dryer locations than many, many woodland forest natives. Here's more information on the plant and a source to help you find some for your area if you are in range:

Simply stunning.
It really is!
I ordered bare root blue cohosh from prairie moon nursery. It didn’t produce so they are standing by their product and resending in the fall. The American Spikenard I planted at the same time has flower buds!! I agree that we need to restore our lands. I’m looking forward to smelling the cohosh. Thanks for sharing.
That's good to know! American Spikenard is soooooooooo a favorite! The scent of the B. Cohosh in this forest was fabulous. It's an odd scent, but I do love it.
Love this plant! I bought a red or variegated foliage a few years back as it caught my eye at the garden center, not knowing what it was. I would like to find the native to introduce into the landscape one day!
Check in with United Plant Savers in Rutland, OH. They often know of propagated Black Cohosh that is straight species and not stolen from the forests. :)
I bought one of these online bare root. Planted it in the Spring in a pot and it sprouted right away. As soon as I planted it into the ground it started to die. I suppose the location was too sunny. Will try again.
Could be. They are super resilient once established, but it seems like everyone needs a little tender lovin' care when first introduced to the Mother. Dappled sun or shade and if in a dry spot, watering for a bit will surely help.
