I watched the whole video without any reduction.. It is heartbreaking as I was born in the USSR and speak Russian. Some details: The Yakut man (e.g. Russian) actually managed to disarm the Ukrainian solder when the Ukrainian tried to slash the opponent’s neck with the knife (he actually cut part of the Russian Yakut solder ear..).. Then he used it against Ukrainian.. And it is even harder to watch and especially hear when the Ukrainian solder lost and admitted it and said (this is not shown here) “please let me say goodbye to my mother and see the sky for the last time”.. It was rally heartbreaking.. And the when Yakut was leaving the dying Ukrainian he replied “ I want to die myself.. You were a better solder than I am” And the Ukrainian said in very mild voice if he spoke to the best friend “ Thank you.. Forewell..”.. and the Yakut reply in a very calm and equally friendly replied “Forewell..” I could hardly hold my tears back…

To all the people saying there was mutual respect, it's simply not true. If you watch the full unblurred video it's like 8 minutes long of the Yakut stabbing this guy repeatedly and biting his fingers off. At the end he finally stops stabbing him after being exhausted, only to walk away to get enough distance to throw a grenade at him to finish him off. Yakut never says anything respectful, it was only the Ukranian who was trying to be respectful. Ukrainian didn't have the killer instincts that this Yakut had. Close quarters combat will always go to the person willing to be the most brutal the fastest. This Ukrainian also had a knife but he didn't try and use it until he had already been stabbed multiple times. I get the mutual respect thing is a cope to make people feel more comfortable about just how ugly and dark we humans can be. But in this situation wasn't some hollywood scenario where two honorable soldiers respected one another, this was a brutal Yakut knifing a guy to death with zero empathy. That's the reality of war.

To all the people saying there was mutual respect, it's simply not true. If you watch the full unblurred video it's like 8 minutes long of the Yakut stabbing this guy repeatedly and biting his fingers off. At the end he finally stops stabbing him after being exhausted, only to walk away to get enough distance to throw a grenade at him to finish him off. Yakut never says anything respectful, it was only the Ukranian who was trying to be respectful.
Ukrainian didn't have the killer instincts that this Yakut had. Close quarters combat will always go to the person willing to be the most brutal the fastest. This Ukrainian also had a knife but he didn't try and use it until he had already been stabbed multiple times. I get the mutual respect thing is a cope to make people feel more comfortable about just how ugly and dark we humans can be. But in this situation wasn't some hollywood scenario where two honorable soldiers respected one another, this was a brutal Yakut knifing a guy to death with zero empathy. That's the reality of war.
