I've heard of Simplex occasionally using the older MA/SS horn/strobes in the late 1980s and early 1990s, long before Faraday started making their own multitone horn/strobes.
My high school had that same Simplex 6400 master clock! They still use it to this day, though the P.A. system was replaced in the late 2010s, so the sound of the time tone changed.

This is a very interesting system! The tone that the alarms make is sooooo cool

Wow I just got back into FAs -- one thing I love seeing is that most old units are well preserved and still used in active operations. I loooove old Simplex and Wheelock mechanical horns as well as these early mutli-tones.

    An OG panel, love it!
Always gotta appreciate the older systems. They paved the way for todays modern fire protection!

One way you can tell if a 4002 does the paused code 3 without hearing it… if it’s not the enhanced version. You can tell by looking at the manual evacuation switch. If there’s a led to the right of it, then it’s enhanced. If there’s a blank spot, then it’s not. I’ve always preferred the pre-enhanced version, as it brings nostalgia. 2 of the elementary schools and the middle school I went to had 4002s. The elementary schools had pre enhanced models that did Code 3. (2099-9754 pulls, and Simplex 2901-9383s on 4903-9101 strobe plates.) However, the middle school I went to I’m unsure if it was the enhanced model or not, as it had simplex single stroke bells and simplex coded pull stations. Unsure of the model. The coded pulls were weird, they look just like simplex 4263-1 models, but they only had 2 numbered codes. (2-1, 3-1, etc). I’d imagine they’re pretty rare. There were also 4251-20s as well. There were 2 different kinds of bells. They were all single stroke, but one kind looks like a 2901-9333, but the other kind was older. Also simplex, unsure model. Unfortunately, the middle school had the panel replaced with a simplex (I think 4007). The notification appliances and pulls stayed the same, just added some 2099-9756 and some Truealerts. Both elementary schools closed down, however both still have the systems in them. One of them is currently up for sale, while the other is now a college site. Babble session over lol

I hate the slow whoop tone on the MASS. I'd be so tempted to leave the panel on code 3 if I was there. Your employer needs to invest in a Solo or Testifier testing kit for their technicians.

I'm reminded of someone I know; his old apartment building was built in the 1970s with a Simplex system using 4040 horns on 4050-82 light plates. In 1991 they upgraded to a Notifier System 5000, but they slapped MA/SS horn/strobes with trim plates onto the 4050-82s, and it looked pretty bad! The apartment units also had PA400Rs installed, and they kept the Simplex 4251-20 pulls and the old "wiffle-ball" smoke detectors (though a few that failed over time were replaced with System Sensor i3s). The MA/SSes were all set on Slow Whoop, but they were unsynchronized, and they'd start sounding a couple seconds after the PA400Rs when the system was tripped.

We have solo cups we just didn’t have one while doing this building. It also only has one smoke just to drop the fire door

I find this unusual for a Simplex system. Wheelock devices with Simplex systems are what I’m used to seeing, but System Sensor devices, that’s unusual
