      @@GerrysDiy therapy is a bit brutal. To be fair I think the fact that you don't let things stop you is brilliant. I need a hoist to lift this, ah sure I'll use the garage door.
      What impressed me most was the you screwed the valve through the hook. I thought you were just going to clip it on to the valve but no I was so wrong.

    Gerry, if you want to know why so many viewers... You are clearly NUMBER ONE on the internet for NORMALLY ASPIRATED waste oil burners.
    And as far a waste oil burners go, your ring of fire design may become legendary, because people copying it are finding it is very efficient.
    (Powered-air waste oil videos are a dime a dozen.)
    So many of us watching you use these burners OFF GRID because they are home-made heaters. Also, because oil is the best heat producer for off grid use. This is why you have us viewers.
    Off grid usually means hauling waste oil or diesel to a slightly remote location. Even the Eskimoes (Inuit) used whale and Seal oil for heat (blubber) due to all the B.T.U oil packs into a small transportable package. Please make your Free Hot Water heater normally aspirated when you find it convenient - we'll eat up your content.
    Thanks for all your other entertaining Paragliding etc content on the side, its fun to see what else is going on with you.

      Hi Rand. I hadn't stopped to think of it in those terms. It would be very easy to make an unpowered version of this boiler stove and even a better looking design When I get it working with a fan I will cut it and make it run power free. I have some designs in mind so not too dificult. The closest I got to canada was when I flew into Chicago and could see it from above. I lived in Oregon for about 6 months and planned on going north but ended up in Sanfrancisco and LA instead. It's on the busket list though. Thanks for the comments. I will be doing another live chat on Sunday evening at 9pm utc so if I can keep up with all the comments and chat I might be able to answer things better there. Cheers Gerry

    Whew! Finished the vid and you can still see. I can breath again. This project looks like good fun. I’m interested to see what kind of pressure relief fail-safe you come up with in case thermostatic controls fail.

    Hi Gerry now your going to need an open vent so you don't turn that cylinder into a hotwater bomb this will let any pressure out of the system. And then you'll need an Ajax valve connected to the garden hose or town supply to auto fill the cylinder back up as hotwater is removed. Cheers Fireman Jim

  • @gateway8833

    I’m thinking that a fuel cut off thermostat, a pressure relief valve, and a launch tube if they fail. I’ve responded to boiler blowouts and it is an amazing force. Great idea.

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Abby Babby. This could get to massive pressures very quickly if it were a sealed system with blowout valves and similar but I will be making it an open vented system so it will just make steam and blow out an open pipe if it were to get too hot. It's very simple and I hope to have it going this week but I am busy with work. Thanks for commenting Appreciate it Cheers Gerry

    Love the videos, we have been watching your progress for over a year now. Is it possible to scale down the stove size for even greater fuel economy, for example, with a 3.9 kg bottle? Does this make sense? Cheers Gerry. Don't stop doing what you do!

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 лет назад

      Hi Jane. It is possible to go smaller but there is a limit with this design because the burn chamber has to be red hot. However I will be making a smaller design once I have the boiler stove up an running . Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry

    don't seal it off without a temp and pressure relief valve. a steam explosion is more powerful than a TNT

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 лет назад +2

      Hi James There will be a little header tank and it will be open vented to the atmosphere. A sealed system here would be very messy. Thanks for the comment Appreciated Cheers Gerry

  • @M35a2guy
    @M35a2guy 5 лет назад +1

    Hey Gerry, excited to see what that bad boy does. Worse case for a safety measure is to start with a calculated amount of oil. Say 135-145K BTUs per gallon of WMO. If you have a 30 gallon water tank and the water is starting @ 40 degrees F and you bring the temp up to 200 degrees F that's roughly 40,000 BTUs. Perhaps start the system with no more than roughly 1/3 of a gallon give or take... Of course you could always just turn off your oil when you reach the temp you want but what fun would that be lol... Glad you had both eyes at the end of the video. Can't wait to see it fired up. Is this going to be an open system? How are you planning to harvest the heat? Cheers from Northeast Ohio

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 лет назад +1

      Hi M35a2guy I am going open vented with this. Unless I go at this with a wire brush there will be lots of smoke when the paint burns off and I am not going to sand it lol. What happens if you keep going across lake Erie into Canada is there border / custom issues. When you look at a map of the US you would swear it was just a big island lol. When you see it connected to Canada and Mexico thats going to be some wall or big fence lol. Ireland is just a little country with just 6.5 milion which is like one of your towns lol. Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry

    • @M35a2guy
      @M35a2guy 5 лет назад

      GerrysDiy Hey Gerry! Cheers. You can certainly cross Lake Erie into Canadian waters from the American side. Your supposed to report with Canadian customs however upon arrival if you plan to even just drop anchor in Canadian waters. Both Canada and the US have a coast guard and it’s patrolled aggressively. My wife and I ride the Harley up through buffalo NY over to Niagara Falls but just stay on the American side.

    Boilers are super tricky to work with, a pressure relief valve is necessary as steam is extremely dangerous!

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 лет назад

      Hi Rich. With the unruly nature of waste oil and the type of burner I will be using I elected to go with an open vented system so there will be no build up of pressure and I can always turn off the oil. On the next version there will be electronic control gear. I appreciate the comment Thanks Gerry
