Hi Ben, I'm climbing Mt Fuji sometime on the 1st week of July. And instead of sleeping in a hut on the Mt, I booked a hotel not far from the train station for 2 nights as I want to visit what's around Mt Fuji as well. So my plan is to leave the hotel at night so that I can arrive at the 5th station near the Yoshida trail at around 11pm. I'm pretty fit and I'm used to do hard core hikes, do you think starting at 11pm would be enough to see the sun rise?! Or should I start earlier? Thanks for the tip. Cheers
I climbed Fuji in 2014 with a friend and her mom, and after a night of altitude sickness and basically running up the mountain at 3am to catch the sunrise it was totally worth it! we actually went there on the day a hurricane was going to pass but luckily we made it above the clouds before it came to us It was nice hearing someone else's experience of Fuji, and yes that was an amazing picture! (too bad about the clouds tho)
Have you been to the Aokigahara Forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji? I'd really like to go there, too, maybe look if I could find some interesting mushrooms, but I keep hearing how dangerous those woods are..
I actually wanted to plan going to Japan and climb Mt. Fuji before staying in Taiwan so this comes in handy:) How is the hut called and is it possible to climb up from the 5. station in late morning (6 - 7am) and descend at the same day? Cause I don't necessarily need to see the sunrise but I'd like to make this journey in one day if possible.
set off after lunch, got to the mountain hut at about 4:30, had a nap, ate dinner, then went to sleep, got up 1:30 am, got to the summit at 4:15, but I managed to get down to 5th station at about 9:30 or 10 am.
I just checked some websites, the trails will be closed in December. I don't know if you can just go anyway. But it certainly wont be a place a beginner would want to be. In the summer, no problem, someone with little or no training should be able to do it.
I stopped watching once u mentioned how u climbed outside of the designated areas, just to cut corners and save time. The Japanese guys were shouting at you, you say. Thats because u showed a complete lack of respect for safety and for others. "Typical foreigner" is a stereotypical term born out of behaviour like yours.
nice explanation! I just got back from hiking up Fuji last week, really fun experience.

1956 I slept I in the ice crater at the top.
Is it possible to hike up and down in one shot, without plan for a sun rise on the top. How much time will it take?
Muzaffar Chaudhary yes. probably a full day.

It is possible. But you might not see much from the top. You saw the photos, the summit was completely in cloud in the afternoon.
+Learn Chinese Now You're right. I'm kinda undecided cause I won't stay long in Japan. What time about did you set off on your journey the first day?

+Learn Chinese Now Oh well that's not that long overall. Thank you!
+Learn Chinese Now Made the hike like you suggested. Was really worth to see the sunrise, thanks! :)
hey ben, do you recommend beginners to climb Mt Fuji during december
?? how easy or hard would be ??
Bijay Eren Sapkota you probably won't be allowed, there is a climbing season, it's pretty strict. in December it will be covered in snow.
