Defining groove seems to be a very difficult thing as it goes past the realm of what is heard to what is felt. Good groove provokes a feeling that lasts long in the minds of the listener. People tend to remember more how a sound made them feel and then tie that sound to the song. Hence a good bassline becomes the identity of the song with time. A good example is Billi jean by Michael Jackson.
