  • Mike Schmidt's Double Deceiver is one of the best "swim patterns" around. The bucktail head allows it to retain the profile in the water and it's light weight/deceiver tails catch every bit of current and represents a wounded or fleeing baitfish.
    Material List:
    Back Hook: Daiichi 2461#4
    Tail: Tan Schlappen Feathers (2)
    Body: Gold Ice Dub
    Over/Underwings: Tan over Yellow Bucktail
Connection: 19 Strand (0.38) Beadalon and 1 Bead
    Front Hook: Daiichi 2461 #1
    Body: Gold Ice Dub
Over/Underwing: Tan over Yellow Bucktail w/ Blue Highlights
Eyes: 7mm Fish Skull Eyes (Fire)

Sorry it took me so long to get to this one, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Keep the requests coming, I'll try to be quicker on the responses...

Great job Josh! I too use the MFC streamer hooks- mostly because they are the same as 2461, but come in 100 packs.

Thanks Rich! Ya, the 100 pack is a huge selling point to me as well, that and the hook is pretty damn good!

Let's try that out soon! The Stone is open now (from ice.).

Thanks Don, is it really? Through the bird float? If work lets me, I want to fish it before runoff hits...

@@varnersstreamers Well, it was floatable. This next cold spell will fix that. I don't like the bird float when the river is at winter flows, too many long, shallow stretches. Maybe the Mo soon?

I guess my question earlier about those hooks was well timed! Great video as always, what other color combinations do you tie this in?

Thanks Lee, and yes...the hook question lined up perfectly with this video. I hate to give a blanket response to that question, but every single color combination I can think of, this fly is that good honestly.

Nice work Josh- I'm pretty sure Mike doesn't use any body materials though- just two stacks of bucktail. His stuff is pretty paired down to the point I may have overheard some guides in Arkansas refer to them as shitty'schmidty's.....I should also say I know a little about fishing politics and I have no further comment lol. l I have about two dozen of Mike's flies in my boxes right now.

Thanks Dan, you are 100% correct, Mike doesn't tie body material on this pattern, but my bucktail work was completely atrocious when I first started tying this pattern that I needed the filler...
