Her dad and I are so freaked out. What if she needs hospitalization and we cannot go in because of covid? 2020 worst year ever hands down. BUT YOU ALL ARE HERE FOR US. Thank you with all my heart. • @coover65
      @coover65 3 года назад +2

      I thought all British ambulance services were doing away with EMT level, and getting them to upskill so that all staff are paramedic level. We did that here in Australia 15-20 years ago and it was too much of a learning curve for some older officers.

    • @kyleocallaghan9185
      @kyleocallaghan9185 3 года назад +3

      @@coover65 That isn't something I've heard of. We're now training EMTs (or ambulance associate practioners) to a level 3 level I believe. That way they're allowed to apply for the university degree from AAP to para.
      Be far too costly to have a road staffed with all paramedics - I don't see the benefit of it either personally. I usually feel a spare part when I'm with another paramedic.

    • @coover65
      @coover65 3 года назад +4

      @@kyleocallaghan9185 Here paramedicine is transitioning from a system where you stabilise a patient then do the obligatory transport to hospital to "bring the hospital to the patient". No longer glorified first aiders or elementary ambulance officers, but professional highly trained medics on par with Registered Nurses. Hospitalisation is more an adjunct to the patient magament pathway, and many with chronic issues can and are treated in the home environment. I can see the pros and cons of skill mix within a crew; here we do "job about" and if I was the only paramedic and working with an EMT I'd get tired eventually of having to intervene on every job when getting sent to say three STEMIs in a row, or having to jump in and do something they're not authorised to do (cannulate en route for example). There's a public expectation that they'll always be treated by a highly trained paramedic who has the clinical governance and diagnostic training to treat appropriately. Gone are the days of constant "I'm not trained to work out what's going on, so we'll take you to hospital".

      The most at risk people for Flue are also the most at risk for COVID so the demographics who create the vast hospitalisations and deaths from flu are shielding at home due to covid! They are not going out shopping ...going into a shared environment like work office or elderly day centres as well as not having visitors who carry the flu coming in and out their homes! Without exposure to the flu they can't catch it ! Again the highest risk groups are heavily encouraged to to get the flu jab nice and early before infection rates have a chance to rise. Some communities are even implementing door to door vaccinations!
      When people ARE going out they and the staff are wearing masks such are very effective against airborne flu virus as well as COVID !
      Much like with covid the flu virus tends to rip through care homes picking of the weak ..By keeping the residents separate and use proper PPE Is protecting our elderly she's medically fragile

When I went to Europe in 2016 and went on a total of 8 flights and two trains, and brought enough n95 masks and clorox wipes it was the first time in over 20 years that I didn't catch anything which was remarkable, because on the way home a woman who was hacking a lung out sat right beside me. Nine hours sitting beside a coughing germ factory and I didn't get sick so it tells me that masks and cleaning works. Eating can be done wearing a face mask, open the bottom and pass the food in and close the mask and eat.
