I like watching fittings with people who really know their golf swing and what they want. You get to see the fitters really doing great work. Can’t wait to see you test these on the course.
I did a fitting for the 0311 Gen 6 irons and the staff in Dallas was absolutely amazing. The store was beautiful. The service was first class. And the clubs walked out the door with me. Plus a bag and 2 sugar daddy wedges. I’ve never had such an awesome experience in my years of playing golf.
Went to a PXG fitting last year with me brother and dad who both ended up in their clubs (different models) was very impressive from start to finish, and the clubs are great.
Wow James that’s a heavy swing weight most steel shafted irons come of the shelf D2 or less. You really like to feel a heavy head. That is why you can really dial in with the PXG irons. I game gen4 0311 P irons and like D2. Recently got fitted by Brandon at the drift for a driver and he nailed the fitting. The new driver has improved my launch gaining 10-15 yards. Highly recommend this venue and the knowledge Brandon brings to the fitting.
So good to see reviews and content where there's no claims of crazy distances with a 7 iron and more talk about consistency, feel and control. If more reviewers talked about a solid 165 7 iron I might not see as many people swinging out of their shoes at the range, top notch!
It's nice to see the differences in fitting process from manufacturer to manufacturer, and I don't know about you Robbo, but I could go for a fitting every other week at a different company and never get tired of hitting new stuff.
Been fitted by Jack and then Brendan a couple of times Always been impressed by the quality of the fit Last time I was told to wait for the next gen to come out as I wasn't gaining anything....which I thought was great advice and not just selling clubs
These irons look solid. I never hit any PXG clubs, im pretty much a Titleist guy. Now have T100s's in the bag and they're the best irons i've ever played.
@@scott48 no thanks. I’m set. No need to spend more money. I’ve had T200’s for 2 years and was time to upgrade. I’ve never hit PXG but seen good reviews
James, great video. I have a full bag of PXG irons and woods and just last week went for a putter fitting. Brilliant experience. PXG's customer service is second to none. Given that your decent angle was around 47 to 49 degrees, was spinning around 5,500 rpm really an issue? Will Gen6 be going in the bag for you?
Interesting fitting process and not surprised how those few variables can alter the spin and distance so much. Goes to show that fittings for new clubs are always best instead of grabbing something off the rack.
My fitting with PXG was quite similar to this only there was no fancy machine to check my swing weight. I was also fitted for the Gen5 0311 T model and am surprised they no longer make that with Gen6.
Hang tight - they are being put into another group as probably 0317 series with blades, cavity backs and a version of the Gen 6 T. Look for them in late summer.
Really dialed in that 7 iron! How was the 9 iron, PW, or 5 iron? It's disappointing a company that is only going to fit you to their brand can't even have a setup to do a proper fitting and see how you hit the rest of the irons. I guess it would be too much work for them? Or it would show that you need a blended set with more forgiving irons in the long irons but might like some more workable clubs in the short irons... 7 iron fittings are a joke.
Agreed. Presently did a pxg fitting and all they had was 7 irons. Would have been nice to know if I could it the 5 iron or if I should just do 6 to gap.
I find it interesting that a PXG fitting spends a long time tweaking swingweight whereas other manufacturers are all about trying different shafts and head styles with virtually no discussion of swingweight.
When you asked the fitter if half a swing weight affects much, half a swing weight point is nothing and doesn't really impact performance at all if components aren't being changed out. I think the only reason it had an effect for you was you knew that change was made. Most custom club companies have a swing weight tolerance of 1 point when building clubs because they have to use tungsten powder as opposed to a weight or lead tape and there is not a difference that has been noticed from testing.
In the begining of the video he said that the blade length is NOW a blend of the P and T. Your Gen 5's are fine. I'm getting fit for Gen6's tomorrow. I've had every generation of PXG's from the begining.
Problem with PXG at the moment, is that every shaft in their irons, apart from the stock Elevate Tour, is a £40/50 upgrade per iron. Also golf pride grips are £12 per iron. So your looking at £270 per iron potentially. Mizuno offer pretty much every shaft and grip included in the list price. Cally, Titleist, TM all offer numerous shafts without uncharge. So PXG need to address that, especially when you consider their GEN 4,5 &6 irons look almost identical.
I don’t remember him saying that they’re going in the bag. Doing a fitting with with every major manufacturer seems like a brilliant move that gives every brand a fair shake to win over a popular RUclipsr. That said I really don’t understand why pxg dropped the tour model, 4 iron spin on a 7 iron is no bueno
@@Kdpeters80 The T model is being combined into a new series 0317? With a blade, cavity back and the T model to be introduced in the summer. My guess is they’ll reshape the T a little to make a visual complementary set for blending.
PXG has great irons but there's just too much offset in the T and P irons, especially in the long irons. If their P offering had minimal offset like P790 or MP225, they'd really have something.
You are correct - in the 4,5,6,7 irons the Gen 6 P iron has more offset than either the P790 or MP225. At the 8,9,P,G - the P has equal (P790 8i) and substantially less than the 225. The 9, P and G, the PXG P irons have less offset than either the P790 or MP225. In fact less than 1/2 compared to the MP225 P and G.
0317 CB and St has the most minimal offset of just about every iron out there all the offsets are like .0 something I’m seeing 1.,2. Even 3. In all the other brands except maybe Cobra
PXG trying to buy the big RUclips content creators. Pete Finch just did a PXG video too where they invited him over to Scottsdale. Full fitting, built him a full set of clubs etc. None of them will be playing them in 6 months. JR seems to swap clubs every few months. It was takomo last year that were the best things ever. Now Mizuno where he just happens to have gone for a full fit. Caveat emptor.
Spin seemed way too low. Your probably getting the same spin with your Mizuno 5 iron compared to that 7i. He did his best to dial you in but that’s why only looking at carry and total distance can be deceiving.
Descent angle is the key. Some of the velocity produced can lead to more height in some cases. The descent angle can still be good and have a tight landing window.
I’ve watched your videos of you testing irons that you were rewarded instantly with better feedback. I’d say those won’t be in your bag long. Just saying.
PXG has really nice stuff but the resale and trade in value is absolutely trash. I sold some old PXG irons for $200. Meanwhile my 13 year old pings sold for $600.

If your 4 iron is spinning at 5500 you have a problem of your own to worry about! That is way too high for a 4 iron.
Lol, I saw some spinning in the 3000s, that’s not low for a 7 iron? 😂
