@@martincunningham5815 let me save you some time - the tribunal would last 8 years, cost 600M and find that while the practices at RTE may have been somewhat unethical, they didn't break any laws so unfortunately nobody can or will be punished, but we pinky promise it wont happen again.

Then its comes out after 6 years or more that the what happened was "unethical" and thats it. I think the governance of RTE is extremely lacking. But on the powers of the PAC, I believe they need to be careful. They are starting to come across like a Star Chamber. If I was before them, based on the aggression and egos on show, I would insist on legal representation.

How many state/semi-state bodies are budgetary shambles? Luas, port tunnel, children's hospital, health service, is it not about time we mirrored the success of the criminal assets bureau for public finances, a statutory body with real powers of control and forensic accounting capabilities to examine all departments and projects from source independently. We can pay for the best available to stock this body because no matter how much we pay them they will save our state a fortune and curb inflationary pressures caused by public sector endemic mismanagement.

A full scale Tribunal of Enquiry would be needed to map these murky depths.
