Idol addressed the bs said by ppl: their mvs being too bright, too dark, too much cgi, too westernised, them looking alike etc. They doubled down on these specific things:
Too westernized? Make the loudest kpop video with Korean symbolism.
Too much cgi? Make the whole mv using greenscreen.
Too much auto tune? Turn that up!
They look alike? Make a 1000 of them
All people's prejudices not only against BTS but also for the KPOP industry are in the form of mockery and sarcasm throughout the MV
Thank you! They are using this style for a reason to throw it back in the faces of other Kpop industry people who were constantly criticizing them.

All the use of greenscreen was also targeted at some of their haters who used to claim they used greenscreen all the time in their videos which they do not. So they were like, okay we'll show you greenscreen.

Yes thank you! They were like oh you think we are "too westernized" now? Ok let's make the most over the top cliche of a kpop video you've ever seen then. There's a lot of other small details too like V was told by haters during a live that he was ugly with glasses on so he wore glasses in the MV. RM was attacked by haters during a live for using cute filters for fun so he put filters on in this MV. And many other references like that as well in this.

When Jimin does that kick live…it’s insane! They can shake the world. It’s amazing.
There are a lot of symbols from Korean culture in this song. The video is not all CGI, you could be surprised about a lot of things they did or built for this MV
This is FIRE (!!!!!!!!) in concert. I mean, it's amazing to be in a crowd of 55,000+ people all sing-shouting "YOU CAN'T STOP ME LOVING MYSELF!!!!!!!" at the same time and jumping up and down like their lives depend on it. You need to watch a concert video of this song in particular sometime.

You are right about the kick. Jimin (at the front) is a black belt in Taekwondo and his kick could be truly deadly. Whenever he performs Idol he always looks to his right just before this kick. It’s an automatic precaution to make sure no one is in the way. I’ve never seen him do this move without it.

Fun Fact: Also when Jimin does that high kick in live performances, he always checks behind to make sure he doesn’t kick V’s face😂

Believe it or not pretty much everything in this video symbolizes something. This was a diss to the haters saying that BTS has become too Westernized. DKDKTV has a great explanation of what we are seeing as well as tying it into Korean culture.

You think it's good on screen, You should see IDOL in concert. It's a song that has every audience member involved. It feels like the stadium is moving/shaking, cause everyone is jumping up and down and singing at the top of our lungs. You have to experience a BTS concert. There is a clip out there for each moment before Jimin does his high kick that for a split second before he kicks he looks behind him to check the member behind him and then not kick him or hurt him. So now its an obsession when ever they do this song whether video or live or wherever, we sit and watch Jimin in that split second glancing to the back. His so professional 💜💜💜

This was the first bts mv I ever saw and I was blown away. Loved the message, was clear it was in response to some criticism and I loved their attitude and confidence. Then I watched the explained video and was mind blown. Everything in the video has a meaning! You should deffo watch the explained. Also their live performances of this song at award shows are amazing

I think they should've taken your advice Viv's and watched the explanation video. This is the most confused they've looked so far out of all the things they've watched. I know they were trying but in this case they just aren't gonna get the Korean cultural references or that it was a crazy over the top "kpop" style MV ironically because they were getting hate for being "too westernized".

The lyrics all mean something as well. All of them. Even the ones you think are just filler lyrics. Live performances on this one are primo!! Yes thank you! This MV is completely different from anything you've seen BTS do ever because on the surface it's your stereotypical cliche over the top "kpop" MV but it's done so ironically cuz they were getting hate for being "too westernized" and were like okay we can do a "kpop" MV but turned up to 11. Even then all the imagery have meaning in them. How many MV's have we watched with these guys at this point, you think their gonna have a director come in to half-ass the next MV? really? Think of it more like satire almost.

In all honesty, this song is their song for the haters. Like they noticed a lot of bts do from mv to whatever you can name it so bts be like why not give them some shit they love to talk about us. But there's a lot of deep symbolism in the MV if you open ur eyes and keep taking down notes.😌

This MV is maximalism in another satisfying way; except, unlike BS&T which had it through artistic and interior design, this one is using wild edits and SFX.

Please for the love of all that is holy WATCH THE EXplained video by DKDKTV. There is a reason for why this MV is like this they were getting hate for being "too westernized" so they decide instead of making their usually cool MV's to make the most in your face "kpop" style MV (there's a lot of crazy MV's like this in kpop but it's not for any real reason generally) like see we can do trippy crazy MV's too but the images chosen actually mean things in this case. I knew this one was gonna confuse you which is why I said you should really watch it in this case well before you guys watched this one.
The Tiger is a symbol for Korea. The sharks while their dancing in a cage are the people constantly trying to attack them. This is directed toward their haters Suga literally says "Point your fingers at me, I could care less". There is a reason Viv's mentioned the explained video to you. This may not be their usually type of MV but that's the point.

En que discotecas de España habéis estado chicos?!!! 😂 Todo lo del vídeo, el conejo en la luna, el tigre saltando, el dragón dibujado son todos mensajes inteligentes hacia sus haters coréanos que los acusaban de haberse accidentalizado. La Coreografía, la expresión “Orso” , los elementos festivos tradicionales todo son mensajes, el mapa mundi de la mesa al principio y al final, el hecho de que salga el Sol y al final se ponga, todo significa cosas muy interesantes y la exageración de pantalla verde tenéis razón es a propósito porque aún no usándola apenas en sus MV les acusaban de hacerlo, así que se divirtieron regodeándose en ello 14:30 ! Si veis el vídeo explicativo que os recomendamos os encantará la inteligencia de IDOL MV! Gracias

Btw...this is the best introduction to BTS video on RUclips. It is narrated (no reading) in all English. It not only introduces you to each member, but it also covers their entire discography from album #1 in chronological order. Even if you don't react to it...I highly recommend watching it.

The mv was whack because it was so colorful and full of visuals, but the idol era was one of my favorite bts eras, bts released dolls that look like them in the idol mv. I found the idol era to be funny 😂
