Hi Buckin, The last pipe you tested looked to me to pull the best. This is very interesting to me because I have been testing various pipe designs my self. Your results are pretty much inline with what I have found. The bear claw designs don't tend to be quite as finicky over all and give a broad power band, but when you get a single outlet pipe right for the saw it's on it's magic! Great content!
Good to see you in your happy place , in the bush running a power saw even if its testing. Also I understand about the shoulder pain, I need a new plastic/titanium one due to a 26 yr old injury. I put it off but one day its not going to stop hurting. Much respect sir, I really enjoy your content, wisdom and ability to find positive always.
Finally! I got a chance to finish this video. And it's an awesome video, too, Buckin'. My favorite was last one, the small stainless steel pipe. I have a bark box already and plan to send my 500 to ripsaw very soon.
Awesome Video Buckin!! I love watching you run all your saws but I have a 500i with a Bark Box on it. So I kinda get a little more excited when you run this saw!! I was actually at my parents house cutting with it today. So the first and the last muffler seem to run the best. I liked the sound of the the first one the best 🤗🤗👍🏻👍🏻Thanks Buckin!!
The BBR sounded the best on camera in my opinion, pullin mean too!!! Have you experimented with the number of bends in the pipes to gain maximum torque?
Hey buckin what kinda exercise are you doing to help ur shoulder. I'm going through some shoulder pain also. One thing that's helped me is. light weight arms out to ur side and hold them there. 30 seconds 5 times a day. My shoulder feels alot better. Keep it up you will be back to swinging that ax in no time
Buckin! Good to see the shoulder treating you better. It sounded to the ear that the small stainless pipe (tested last) created the best all round performance. It does still seem ever so slightly restrictive where the Green pipe solved that, but lacked the responsiveness of the smaller pipe. I do agree that the Bearclaw design seems to provide the best ALL ROUND performance. Jack of all trades, master of none! Can't wait to hopefully get my hands on a finished product pipe from you. Cheers! I do think it's worth noting that the bearclaw design seems to work the best all round regardless of Stihl or Husky powerheads...
Holy smokes!!! That last pipe had it!!! Awesome testing, and thanks for the time, and R andR thatbya do to test them!! Im definately gonna get one of those BBR mufflers for my 372s.....id be smiling from ear to ear to see it on my saws brother!! Great content!!! MUSIC TO ME EARS!!
Hey buckin I had a question. Theres a guy selling 4 mcculloch saws NOT RUNNING for 35 usd each my goal is to get one and get it running. I noticed one of them is a TOP. HANDLE. And the others are mcculloch 610s. In your opinion which one is more rare and would be cooler to get running?
You said it all midway through the vid, the youtuber can make the saw and its options, look good or bad, depending on how they use the machine, and that certainly applie to you as well as others.
Loving all these R&D videos! I've been wondering if an unrestricted pipe would make the fuel injected 500i cut faster than a pipe with backpressure. I've learned, through this video, that carbureted saws run better with backpressure and the modern fuel injected saws run better with straight pipes and no back pressure. My 500i isn't ported but I'm probably gonna custom fab a straight pipe for my 500i now. Thanks for the video buckin'! You've taught me a lot over these past couple years. Respect!
Great video Mr Buckin, sometimes I hate to see a nice log wasted cutting wafer after wafer, but I understand it's for demo purposes. What do you do with all the wafers? You could cut them at 2" and make stepping or butcher board or other things I'm guessing. I'm just about to fit the Egan box, deflector, and air filter to my 500i, I'm stoked you came round on the 500i. Cheers
Good to be makin sawdust again. Ehh ... I think the last pipe worked the best. I run the barkbox on my 046 , I like it . I haven't messed with my 372 at all , I like how it runs as is , but when you come up with one you like I'll give it a go .
Hey Buckin' what is the process of ordering a splitting axe from you? I am in southern Ontario, but lived in Parksville for 3 years and I am heading back for a visit this July.... wondering about getting an axe from you while I am there. Thanks.
Ok I need help and don't know where to turn. I recently purchased a 881 Stihl and love it. But it needs a full wrap handle. The dealer wants over 200 for one. Keep in mind this saw cost $2580.00 to begin with. Is their another handle I can buy the only ones I can find stop at 660 will that fit? Please help.
Hi Buckin, the the sound of the BBR pipe was noticeably different, right from the get go, close second was the bark box, good you did a side by side on them, possibly the saw had trouble adjusting so quickly from all the header pipes to the bark box, and different lean on required for it too. I think the BBR and the Bark box you could cut all day and have good fuel economy, and still have hearing. On the straight headers, you'd have fun, but you might stop early from the tinnitus, or the gas-tin-isemptyitis.
I'm seeing and hearing stuff about tinnitus in my news feeds. That it is destroying brain cells and it's a precursor to dementia...😖 I've had it for years from working rock concerts, roadie for bands, playing my axe maybe a little loud sometimes. Shooting shotgun without ear protection is definitely not a good idea. Standing next to Harleys and dragsters while they're reving their engines etc etc etc... not good for ear health. I'm so glad that Buckin has been wearing ear protection because i know he is a lover of music and can transend sounds into song. 🎶🔥🌲🪘👍
That’s the fastest Deli Slicer I’ve ever seen Billy, excellent video on all the different pipes on the Stihl.I’m wondering is there something out for me for my 16 in Stihl for increased horsepower?
Think the direction you’re heading in is going to Bear the most fruit. I like the two you ran side by side at the end it kinda shows a good comparison between open flow at top end and a pipe that uses reversion waves to aid in improving overall flow. I have been playing with trying to get tuned pipe performance In a chainsaw friendly package. It’s not an easy problem to solve and it’s a worm hole of possibility’s. My vote is for a “The Claw” rendition on the 500i in the future.
the last pipe looked the best, sounded the best, and looked to work the best to me. I have a Ebay muffler on my 372 similar to a Donny Walker and noticed a difference as soon as i fired it up, way more crack than stock one did, kinda cant wait for a BBR to be available for it.
Had a bad shoulder too Buckin. Knocking, felt dislocated, crunching and grinding. Nerve pain... Know what fixed it? Pulling on the mower consistently... Over extend from splitting wood.. Pulling mower... Is opposite movement to that. Crazy but worked. Someone told me to hang from. Monkey bars too. I know what they mean now.
@Buckin' Billy Ray Smith and in my experience, you're right about the baffle on the inside of the muffler. With the way I do 500s atleast, gutting the muffler hurt a tiny bit, if anything. I no longer bother cutting them out
I like watching you because it reminds me of my grandpa when I was very little when he would let me help him and he did not let me run one except a couple of times that I can remember and the sounds or similar
Funny house pipes can sound amazing but that bear claw design is hard to beat. It’s consistent and seems to well on every saw they fit on. I will say though an old Mac with a pipe is a beautiful sound.
Gday buckin from oz , thanks for the vid mate , interesting , on non injected saws , do you need to adjust the tune at all . I'm seriously thinking of making a key to the bush pipe for my old girl . Once again , thanks and love ya attitude . ✌️out
On a fuel injected saw, swapping a bunch of pipes, I'd be interested to know what the spark plug looks like or if it adjusts that quick between pipes 🤷♂️
Insane! Love the muffler videos,, this content on the 500i, especially given by you, is simply a dream come true What is y’all’s experience getting a wrap on a 500i? Know online I could get a 500 for around 1300 but then throw 200 just for a stupid wrap? I guess if that’s the only way to get one whatch ya going to do. Also wonder what’d happen if you called ripsaw and had them just send you a wrap model saw from the get go..Then again suppose if I what to know I should call them, as “we need are own experience” 👍👍 Loved throwing in that homelight there, can’t imagine the time in editing 3k+ videos,,or even one for that matter Awesome Buckin
It looks like the last pipe you tried was the best. The one that looks like a snake. It sounded really good and had a good 4 stroke out of the wood it looked like it pulled harder.
The green tip pipe looked like it did the best the sound was good up until you pulled out the stainless steel monster of a pipe that I have to say probably did the best out of all them
Ole Curly Becker told me back in 78 Jon you can't push a motor. hard all the time it won't last ! very very true . you want to use the 500I for a while put the stock muffler back on and don't push it so hard it will last a lot longer ?
I've heard locally of two 500i overheating to destruction. I assumed this was due to incorrectly mixed fuel. Maybe a lean mix ran the less thirsty fuel injected saws hot as they weren't getting enough oil. Anyone know much about this?

I'll second most all the single designs

good to see you running a saw again, have a great day thanks

Thanks for doing these Buckin I am waiting for a good pick for my 500i !
Awesome video buckin good to see ya loving the 500 ❤

I love what you said about dogging in as far as bolt on goes it’s hard to beat the bark box
Good to see you back on the saw brother!
I liked that Last pipe the best as well!

"Lean in and back away... "
Great advice for saws and life!!!
Love you all... ❤️ ❤❤
Lieutenant Bradley
Great video buckin i’d have to say the tunable pipe in the BBr pipe going on sound
As the old folks around here use to say, I know your not feeling up to snuff, but we appreciate the effort for an interesting video.
Loved the 400c so went ahead an sprung 4 a 500i cant wait 2 run it.❤
Another great video Buckin. I thought the last one was the best.
thx
That last one was rippin.
Awesome!
yowsa
The last pipe was singing the sweetest song and flexed the most muscle.
Hey Buckin glad to see ya

I think I like the last one the most.... I would think it is a lot of work to construct.... what is it 6 pieces? BUT it sounds great!
The last one was good but think I liked the bark box
its great
Good to be makin sawdust again. Ehh ...
I think the last pipe worked the best.
I run the barkbox on my 046 , I like it .
I haven't messed with my 372 at all , I like how it runs as is , but when you come up with one you like I'll give it a go .
Great video, I love the 500 content. Question for you, what in your opinion is more important, the crack or pull?
to me,,, both very important
🙋🏼♂️Very interesting! That BBR pipe is a beautiful thing😊👌
So where do I get the BBR pipe! I want it! Sounds Awesome!

Have you got a video showing how to square grind a chain I have tried different ways one worked great others not as well
That’s the fastest Deli Slicer I’ve ever seen Billy, excellent video on all the different pipes on the Stihl.I’m wondering is there something out for me for my 16 in Stihl for increased horsepower?
Bigger saw.
Exhaust is a good place to start modifying for increasing H.P.

agreed
Will there be a BBR muffler for MS460? Debating whether to order a bark box for it now or wait for a BBR muffler for it.
The third one sounds and appears to be the fastest 👍
I agree with you they're all interesting and they're all kind of variables but they're very interesting and fun
Nice content as always!!! Crazy pipes! And no four strokin!
Smaller dia. Stainless steel pipe. Pretty good sound, and performance. I liked it.
I liked the small stainless pipe!
the last pipe looked the best, sounded the best, and looked to work the best to me. I have a Ebay muffler on my 372 similar to a Donny Walker and noticed a difference as soon as i fired it up, way more crack than stock one did, kinda cant wait for a BBR to be available for it.
Hey Bucken, awesome video!
How can I get one of those last ones for my 500i?
The BBR pipe that you ran last seemed to sound the best and cut the best
Praying for your shoulder Buckin…
Love ya island boys out here with the best saw videos on RUclips. I'm definitely making one of those tuneable pipes ....
Boy oh boy! I like that T Shirt!
I thought the last one sounded and operated the best. One thing I'd love to see on the 500i is the ram horn. If it would fit.
Had a bad shoulder too Buckin. Knocking, felt dislocated, crunching and grinding. Nerve pain... Know what fixed it? Pulling on the mower consistently... Over extend from splitting wood.. Big fan of the bear claw! Love to you and yours! Missed ya on Sunday 😔 but I think I get it…👍
thx shifter
have you had to replace many of those tiny spark plugs i find they don't last long
The bottom two bolts on stihl mufflers thread into the case, so they don't have nuts on the back of the muffler for the bottom bolts to begin with
THANKS
@Buckin' Billy Ray Smith and in my experience, you're right about the baffle on the inside of the muffler. With the way I do 500s atleast, gutting the muffler hurt a tiny bit, if anything. I no longer bother cutting them out
@@Leave_Nothing_Stock i wood think it wood create the pulling process
I was thinking the same thing
Wow crazy pipe man
Fantastic
Love the music it make
I like watching you because it reminds me of my grandpa when I was very little when he would let me help him and he did not let me run one except a couple of times that I can remember and the sounds or similar
right on Tim
Is that last pipe the pretzel?
I love to hear the saws idle with different mufflers and pipes
Funny house pipes can sound amazing but that bear claw design is hard to beat. It’s consistent and seems to well on every saw they fit on. I will say though an old Mac with a pipe is a beautiful sound.
As my late uncle used to say, slice it thin like Fred Meyer bacon. Fred Meyer is a local grocery store owned by Kroger here in Oregon.
I also live in Oregon. SO TRUE!!!! the bacon is soooo thin. But I'm sure they have fred meyer In other places.😅
Much love❤️
For me it was the 2nd tunable pipe and the BBR pipe that seems to cut the best
Gday buckin from oz , thanks for the vid mate , interesting , on non injected saws , do you need to adjust the tune at all . I'm seriously thinking of making a key to the bush pipe for my old girl . Once again , thanks and love ya attitude . ✌️out
slightly yes
@Buckin' Billy Ray Smith thanks replying Mr Buckin 😉
Ohhhh she loves pipes for sure.
On a fuel injected saw, swapping a bunch of pipes, I'd be interested to know what the spark plug looks like or if it adjusts that quick between pipes 🤷♂️
Good point.
Your last gizmo seemed to be the most happy.
That last header pipe was the best!!!6
I’m sure you’ve seen and likely have one Billy but the Stihl Peavy with log stand allows you to always position log off ground for cutting Be well
God Day Buckin ,do the Canadian timber authorities want a spark arrester on fallers saws out in the bush ? Take Care
Ram's Horn is my favorite best power to me I also think a lot of the the bucking
The pipe had the best sound and the best power
Insane! Love the muffler videos,, this content on the 500i, especially given by you, is simply a dream come true

Thanks for your research, it has helped me a lot!
good
It looks like the last pipe you tried was the best. The one that looks like a snake. It sounded really good and had a good 4 stroke out of the wood it looked like it pulled harder.
that actully really suprized me , I will find that same power in bear claw style
I liked the last one the best, seemed better overall , garry , northern cal.
Looking for the right pipe for my 500i Buckin
What length bar is that.
Seriously wow
Awesome pipe
Sounds like the green one was the best! Didn’t hear the fourstroking sound that the 500i produce
I have to go and have a nap. This video was totally exhausting!
comedian lolololol
The last pipe is the best
Green pipe!
Now, for already in production it would have to be the bark box. But that’s just life.
The green tip pipe looked like it did the best the sound was good up until you pulled out the stainless steel monster of a pipe that I have to say probably did the best out of all them
The green and the stainless ones
How about sharpening the other side as well? Never seen it done might give it a go. You never know.🤠👀👌🤙
The last pipe overall seemed to be the best ie, “The Snake “
The BBR pipe is crackin...
Sweet new video thank you
Ahwoooo get one 👍❤️
Please make video with Stihl ms 462 with header pipe 🙏🙏🙏 i want to see 462 with pipe 🙏🙏🙏
Tanks!
The last muffler

hello
I've heard locally of two 500i overheating to destruction. I assumed this was due to incorrectly mixed fuel. Maybe a lean mix ran the less thirsty fuel injected saws hot as they weren't getting enough oil.
Anyone know much about this?
probably operators
The long stainless pipe seemed to pull hard, sounds different than the shorter pipes
crazy eh
Thanks
I like the pipes but there's probably more kickback. If I take it up a tree I might prefer a bark box.
