    Additional note: if you have a male doggo that you’re making this for... you should cut out a little semi-circle on the tummy piece, before sewing the two pieces together 😉 or make the front/tummy piece shorter! if the fabric is stretchy, you don’t need to worry much about fraying.

    I must say, only thing I would do differently (as I make dog jumpers for my neighbourhood dogs all day every day) if you have a male dog you may want to make the tummy piece shorter, probably to end just after the ribs.... my first attempt at something like this was fine until my German shepherd pissed all over it then ran it dripping wet through the house 😂👌

    I have a hairless cat and you never realize how cold the house can sometimes get until your nakey. Dog sweaters don't really fit her right and they are never long enough. I used to cut up and use little baby jumpers but I have to try this now!

      Sometimes you just use a sweater sleeve for tiny little dog

  • @bishfish7726
    @bishfish7726 8 лет назад +31

    You should do a romper! Rompers are fun but they can be really expensive.
    Loved the video. I don't think my dog would like a sweater, but his feet do get overly icy in the winter, so he might need boots, which I'll buy or make. (I live in the US, so I have a little time.)

    Now I know what to do with the cashmere sweater I bought at the thrift store that was too small for me but I just couldn't pass it up because the fabric felt sooooo nice AND it was on sale for half-price!

      I've always wanted to make one myself because here where I live the ones that are for sale are too bright colored (the Slytherin green is so saturated and strong ç_ç) and the stripes and too big, they're kinda ugly :( and the ones like this one from the picture are very expensive. and Annika has the best sewing tutorials, they're very well explained and simple to understand. It would be awesome if she did it.

    A little tip, if you want to make the sweater longer make sure the belly piece still ends around the pups ribs so that if they have to pee they don't pee on the sweater. I work at a dog store that sells sweaters and that's a huge selling point!

    One thing I've noticed with professionally made dog clothes is that you'll want to shorten the tummy piece by 4-6 inches so that they won't pee all over it when you're out on walks (especially in the case of male dogs). I've also seen large button holes stitched into the top about 2-3 inches from the collar to slip the leash through, which allows their collar/harness to be worn underneath the sweater.

    You are amazing. Thank you. I had been trying to figure out how to measure and make a pattern in 3 sections like you did. I have been driving myself mad trying to out where to put the arm, shoulder ,seam. My dog has a broad pitbull chest so everything always ride down her chest and I have to pull them back up. I've been trying to make her something that fits, so thank you so much for the pattern. I like how far back the arm seams are. Genius!! Haha . Thanks again

    This is going to be perfect for my 2 chihuahuas! Especially when I have a toddler that grows too much lol. Thanks so much!
    If you dont have a measuring tape just use a piece of string or scrap material and fold twice to divide by 4. Also boy dogs NEED more allowance for the tummy area so make sure you take that into consideration or you'll have a messy eww sweater for every walk.

    A lot of dog-to-dog communication is done non-verbally. In a situation like a dog park, dogs communicate mainly though body language, a huge part of which is through the ears. So its usually in the dog's best interest of he/she doesn't like hoods. But doggy ears do get cold, so some dogs love wearing hoods at home or in the garden.

    my mum and I make our dog costumes for the local carnivals, this year we had a vegas theme so he was a Card shark (literally a shark, with playing cards all over him) It's super easy as he already has a couple of coats we can use as template, so we just lay those over the fabric to trace and go from there usually
    We've done a bird one, a tutu, Dogfish, Sniffer dog (fluorescent jacket with plastic noses all over it), priest, all to match our themes (can't remember the bird one but the others were granny ballet, penguins, air hostesses and nuns)
    and luckily both our current dog and our old one are/were super tolerant of their crazy owners and just love all the attention they get

    I have rehabilitated dogs in Flagstaff, AZ and Phoenix. Most dogs just don't like their paws to be extremely hot or extremely cold. Baby shoes work just fine to solve this problem and are pretty inexpensive.

    I did this on my obese cat, but I didn't feel like doing math so I cut two holes in a bandana with skulls on it and I also didn't feel like sewing so I just forced her into it then safety pinned the back, it's a little (very) tight and she looked like a 400 pound woman trying to fit into size 2 pants. I have to drive her to therapy every week and I lost a lot of blood. Good DIY btw, keep up the good work!

      +Sunny Hiniku when my dog got neutered we had to put her in a baby grow because she hated the big collars, a few adjustments had to be made and it didn't look as cute as dog clothes would've looked. But it did the trick!

      @AnnikaVictoria24  8 лет назад +6

      fair enough hahaha. (and so damn cute) Ella's also a bit larger than a baby and larger dogs can't wear baby clothes either. I've seen people put their dogs in human sweaters too but I feel like making one to fit them is probably the most comfortable option.

    • @loli_cvnt5622
      @loli_cvnt5622 8 лет назад +1

    sorry what do you mean whit divided whit 4?

    • @panicatthecorgi7134
      @panicatthecorgi7134 7 лет назад

      She means divide the measurement by four. If the measurement is 12 inches, you would dived that by four and get 3 because 4 goes into 12 three times. (4+4+4=12)

    • @nicolenavarro2793
      @nicolenavarro2793 6 лет назад +1

      Why divide by 4? Why not divide by 2, since it's folded in half?

    • @Jess-jg6rx
      @Jess-jg6rx 6 лет назад +1

      Nicole Navarro let’s say it measured 10in around the collar , when you divide it by 4 it equals 2.5in then when you unfolded it’s going to total up to 5inches, since you’re gonna cut two pieces of fabric and sew then together it’s going to equal back to 10inches

    I have a suggestion if you haven't already takled this already; I've been trying to make pockets for a backpack for a while now but I can't exactly figure it out because most sites I visit are too vague or videos too long and unclear about constructing the pocket. Please if you could, you're wonderful at getting straight to the point and making informative videos; help 😥.
    I almost forgot to mention what type of pockets; front pocket, sides, and inside compartments.
    Thank you for your time, Stay fab, Annika!
