My heart broke when you started talking about being a successful business owner. That really touched base with me. The intention is always good, yet sometimes getting the task done takes so much time and effort on our part. Things that seem so easy for a person without adhd are difficult for us. Thank you for this video.

I’ve been watching many ADHD videos but none of them was really relatable. I think it is because they weren’t my age group or gender, they were usually diagnosed as children, and no one I saw felt overwhelming anxiety because of the housework and kids. Thank you for putting yourself out there. I had lightbulb moments that it’s not just me and yes, these are symptoms of ADD. I’m getting tested soon.

Aren't you just the most amazing woman! I'm nearing age 60, was diagnosed at 50. I wish I'd had the inspiring wealth of inspiration you've presented in my day. I'm Mum of four, Nanna of 8 and I've survived! Yet new to RUclips thanks to grandkiddies, I've learnt more in past several mths than in yrs of real life. You're spot on as I was self employed most of my life. But I'm now the most loved Grandma as I play with the kid's with same enthusiasm and so what I'm not like everyone else but we see life different. If you're this awesome now Young Lady, look out in yrs to come as you're touching many lives! You've achieved my highest regard as my son watched and sent 👍, what an achievement as this helped him understand mum's quirky ways but your presenting was very genuine.🙏👵🇦🇺🏆

Hi Betsy, thank you so much for making this video!! I have an ex best friend who was diagnosed with ADHD when she was a child, but her mom never told her she had it (awful, I know!), so I personally dismissed it. Long story short she did lots of things that hurt me, and her mental illnesses + ADHD explain it. Doesn’t excuse it, though! However when I look back, I could’ve done some things differently too. I’ve been looking up these kinds of videos in case we talk again one day, and how to hold her accountable. The comments seem to find this video super helpful too, so I’ll definitely keep a mental note on it! Thank you again :)

I really was at a point with myself that I didn't care what others thought. Well. I ended up with a man who was not who I thought he was and my life fell apart. I began believing I shouldn't need to take meds and this has been such a huge struggle. I feel like the last 5 years that I was on meds and life was much better is lost. I just wish I had someone to talk all this out. I am going to my doctor next week. But watching you talk about this reminded me my quality of life was so much greater when on meds. I cannot worry or care what others think. Thank you again.

Somebody who knows how I feel! It is so cool to hear a woman say things i have thought often: "I feel like a disappointment"..."Let us know you love us" ..."I thought business owners had to be [naturally] organized"..."I get anxious because there's so much to do," etc., etc. I agree 100% with the tips you have given and really love the honesty about our struggles combined with the call to accountability and achievement. Thanks so much for posting this. You look great, by the way. Whenever I see a pretty woman with "all her stuff together" like you, I assume they can't be experiencing anything like I am (overwhelm, difficulty getting started, etc.) Thank you for sharing that things aren't always what they seem. This gives me more hope for myself.

I have struggled with ADHD all my life. One thing i really hate is when friends say ' hes got adhd hes crazy' to people i dont know. I hate people trying to put me on the spot about something i am very embarrassed by. I have always had the attitude 'my ADHD isnt an excuse' if ive told you i have it then i trust you, not to go round asif its a great thing to have. I used to be on medication from the age of 4. I stopped taking medication when i turned 18. Then i discovered Cannabis, this has helped far more than any ritalin or others. Any one struggling with adhd i recommend high grade cannabis.

    • @MagnumOpusYT
      @MagnumOpusYT Год назад +1

I have adhd, only been diagnosed at 40. Smoked cannabis when younger and got psychosis at 17. I'd avoid giving medical advice to others. But your friends shouldn't do that, you've entrusted them with something personal, cleanly state your boundaries, in this case, that is yours to share, not theirs.

Thank you soooo much for this video! My husband and I are BOTH in tears! My husband and son have ADHD and my husband was just recently diagnosed AFTER our son. Life has been rough. I was his hyperfocus before getting married. After marriage, however, I became what I felt like the "back burner" and I took it personally. I felt like life with a family was too hard and too stressful for him and I felt like I was a single parent most of the time. I could sit here and tell you our whole story but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you and would really love to watch a Q&A with you and your husband! I see that this was done a few years ago but I am BEGGING for the Q&A! Or, even just to hear BOTH sides of your stories! Thank you again! Your raw emotion, honesty, and your ability to explain is wonderful and very much appreciated! I have subscribed and looking forward to more when you can! Take care!

BTW, learning how my husband and son think has helped tremendously... just researching the medical aspect and explanation of ADHD doesn't compare to the actual "inside intel" that my husband and son were able to voice to me. I struggled with believing in the myths of ADHD towards boys as "boys will be boys". My husband related to our son in their views and behaviors so he didn't agree with what the teachers and pediatrician was trying to tell us as well. They only understood their normal and nothing else. When I say "recent diagnosis" I mean RECENT! Its been an awakening for ALL of us! Again, we appreciated this video more than words can describe and I am trying to work on how I can help them both. I'm also working on how to change my attitude towards the frustrations and some resentments I've held through the last 17 years with my husband. The difference with us finally understanding what is going on and working together is incredible! ;)

Betsy ~ I’m only halfway through but just had to stop and tell you this: THANK YOU! Thank you for making me feel like maybe I’m ‘normal.’ (Okay, I’ll use that term loosely! 😉) Thank you for making me feel like I’m not the only mom/wife diagnosed with ADHD that functions the way I do. I will be having my husband listen to this so he realizes that I’m not the only wife in the world who occasionally becomes so overwhelmed or anxious because there are so many things to do that I don’t even know where to start! So I actually don’t start. You are amazing for sharing this! Thank you so much!!!
P.S. And now that I’ve finished your video: YES!!! I DO feel like a disappointment! I AM ashamed! You totally hit the nail on the head! And you are soooooo right: we need to know that people still love and support us!
I would *love* to hear more from you and/or Paul - specifically in regard to how you guys make it work. Is it difficult for him to be patient with you (because I’m pretty sure it’s hard for my hubby to find patience for me!)? How does he show his support without being patronizing or shaming? What types of support does he specifically show you that you that work the best for you? And Betsy, when you become so overwhelmed because there are so many things you need to do at the same time, what works best for you in prioritizing or accomplishing them without absolutely losing your sh!t?! (Because I tend to just lose it when I become overwhelmed, I’ve got to be honest 😬)
Ultimately, I just really want to say thank you, again, Betsy, because I REALLY needed to listen to this tonight! (It was one of those days where there were so many things to do that I actually got very little done.)
My friend calls it a “When You Give A Mouse A Cookie” Day (just like the book): you start with Task A, which reminds you that you need to do Task B, which then takes you to Task C (because you need to do that before you finish Task B), but in the process of doing that, Interruption #1 happens, which leads to Task D.... and so on and so on. Ugh. And that is my life! 😉

I have ADHD and I am so glad you made this video. I will share it to my friends and family because I have often felt alone in this world and like nobody could really understand me. I also feel like Chester Bennington of Linkin Park might have had ADHD and may have felt bad over the years and died by suicide. Maybe he felt misunderstood too. I myself survived suicide. When you said that we sometimes feel undervalued and bad it can definitely weigh heavily on your mind and spirit.

Hi Betsy. I appreciate hearing your story and info. I also enjoy your personality and like this video presentation. Well, I've been recently diagnosed, so clearly I have to find all associated videos ever made and posted, save them to Watch Later, make playlists to watch Later, save other people's playlists to watch when i'll certainly have an infinite amount of time to watch them all, plus other vids on all other interesting subjects, while simultaneously finishing all my partially finished projects followed by finishing my started projects. 😏😏😏 (I hope that gave you a chuckle.) Now, I don't want to stress you- but i'd like to see how you're doing now... And since people can record shorts at any time it occurs to you, maybe you could do a couple or three of those... and I'll need a set of those white leopard sweats- as soon as I lose 50 or 60 pounds... or 75 or so.

Haha this comment was fantastic 😂. Yes I have been considering doing more on here related to ADHD. Ha I laugh because I got started with it, hyperfocused on it to get a few videos out, and then dropped the ball 😂. It’s clear that it’s a subject people are craving - mainly I think, because adhd can feel so shaming and lonely. I’ll for sure consider doing more because I want to educate about adhd, and help others. Now if I could just get my brain to cooperate…

Thank you so much for your response! i'm really appreciative you took the time to comment. What I've been thinking of- is getting an editor... I record whatever, from whatever spot in the house- then, send it out, without overthinking it, to an experienced and objective person... then, it is out of my hands, and I don't have a chance to talk myself out of it, or put it off, or forget about it. I already have ... probably hours of content, just gathering micro dust in my laptop. You might have the means to accomplish this (I don't right now). Might this be something that would work for you? I hope I don't seem push-y, i'm just seeing what you think... Either way, I'm juat one of *so many* people who appreciate your perspective, so, thanks again. And good luck with LLRoe! Looks like some of my FB friends know you from there. Cool!

I was diagnosed as a child, so how do I get tested as an adult? Some people say you grow out of it, but I find I’m still struggling. My previous methods no longer help me cope/manage, and I feel I need professional intervention at this stage. && since you live in MI too, I’m sure you know what I’m up against with trying to get medicinal help. So much is put off for medical professionals being apprehensive to prescribe anything due to the strong medicinal abuse && epidemic that this State is currently up against. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Betsy!
