Thank you so much Dr Marshall, your English is really understandable for sociology students studying in their second-language like me . Thank you so much :)))
It’s a good lecture! But you left a lot of crucial points, I will give one example: one of the biggest reasons the monarchical hierarchy fall and the enlightenment came was because between God/church priests , the King, the men of the king/ nobles/ knights and the common peasants. A new social class arose because of a new type of people- the merchants who had a lot of money unlike the peasants but didn’t had the nobility nor the predisposition of being godly, they actually created the crack in the hierarchy of the time which allowed for new enlightened ideas and new philosophies. Because the merchants were men with a lot of money but without any status which created a problem in the social system of the time.
I've watched pretty much all of your videos Debra, and they've been most helpful! Thank you for sharing them with all of us anonymous internet denizens.
Hi, My classes are intro level, and the focus is on Western sociology. I do touch on Ibn Khaldun and some of the Eastern philosophers in class lectures. In a 16-week class, it’s hard to cover everything 😊
Commodore Matthew Parry, the Convention of Kanagawa, and the Meiji Restoration that prompted the proliferation of Westernization and industrial demands in Japan during an era of rapid technological advances spurred from the agricultural revolution come the invention of the steam engine: the Industrial Revolution. The watershed Revolution in an urban concentrated France during the 19th century had incurred from these modern advances that essentially spread across the West. The purpose of the convention held in Feudal Japan was to mushroom economic ties with other nations, as well as the presence of whalers in the vicinity, potential coaling mines and U.S. Naval bases, and an already existing commerce with Asia.
