    I'm not too hard on clean vocalists when they sing live. I know from personal experience that it's hard to sing well when you're out of breath from headbanging.

    Jesse is tired, duders. Touring is physically rough and the farther into your set you get the harder it is to hit those notes. I can say that from experience.

    Exactly live Jessie is either on or off just depends plus its harder to play guitar and sing as opposed to singing alone where u can concentrate solely on it. And if you check out Erra's studio updates they show Jessie in the booth and he sounds great. His voice the way he sings is hard to be on every time live.

  • @chaotemagick3
    @chaotemagick3 10 лет назад +8

    True the cleans are not on point, but he writes really hard vocal parts to pull off for anyone. I feel like they should just tune down further to make them easier to sing. and then the song would be heavier. win-win

    • @soysauce9296
      @soysauce9296 10 лет назад

      Tuning lower won't accomplish anything. You do realize that Erra plays in many different keys right? They aren't just an open-fret based band.

    • @chaotemagick3
      @chaotemagick3 10 лет назад +10

      Soy Sauce orly tell me more, /sarcasm. tuning all the strings down by the same interval will allow him to sing at a corresponding lower interval, likely coinciding with a lower pitch that's more easy to sing for him

    • @Justin-nq6kf
      @Justin-nq6kf 10 лет назад

      wow how much lower they gonna go bro they're already playing in drop A sharp lol and lower tunings doesnt make you heavier Winds of Plague are in standard and are heavy as fuck lol

    • @soysauce9296
      @soysauce9296 10 лет назад

      chaotemagick3 Relax man, I think we just had a bit of miscommunication. If they were to play all of their current songs a semitone lower for live shows, then yes, that would also make all of Jesse's singing parts also a semitone lower, and presumably easier. This is a given, but I wasn't referring to this. I was speaking in regards to future songs, cuz how high the singing parts are isn't determined by tuning alone; what key you're playing in plays a bigger role. Meaning that whether you're tuned to E standard or Drop F, you can still have equally difficult/crazy high singing parts. This is what I meant.

    • @soysauce9296
      @soysauce9296 10 лет назад

      Justin Gulbranson I feel like Drop A# is the new Drop C lol. Relatively speaking, it's really not that heavy. But like you said, you don't necessarily need to tune lower to be heavy; it can certainly help in certain situations tho. Your key, and how you shape your chords can be a bigger factor. However, I do feel that tuning lower opens up a lot of tonal possibilities. It's just that too many bands these days abuse the fuck out of the open string. Luckily, Erra isn't one of those bands.

  • @Aaron_LH

    Nobody wants to admit he cant sing for shit live lol I understand that its not easy but that doesn't change a thing. Its not like he is alone though. Trying to live up to an already near perfect studio take, that took 13 attempts, thats then autotuned and processed with various effects and eq is unrealistic. Especially half way through your set, while playing guitar and out of breath. He could be doing what 90% of other vocalist do by singing the chorus an octave lower. But he doesnt, so props for effort.

    • @Cristov123
      @Cristov123 9 лет назад +2

      Idk at 3:38 he hit that note pretty damn close to studio quality. The dude looked out of breath as shit though, sounds better than TDWP's clean vocalist live at least haha

    • @chrisguitarplaya
      @chrisguitarplaya 9 лет назад

      Chris Hale Dude get the fuck outta here. I love both bands but Jeremy is always on point and I've seen TDWP every time they've played a show in Houston since their first major tour.

    • @Cristov123
      @Cristov123 9 лет назад

      chrisguitarplaya I saw them at Warped Tour 3 years in a row, at the time they were one of my favorite bands, the dude could not hit his notes if the fate of the world hung in the balance.
      Love the music and all, but it was pretty clear after 3 different years of watching them perform live, and all 3 times he struggled to hit most of his notes, that he was not singing within his natural range. Same thing happens with Jesse, hes trying to sing outside his natural vocal range.
      This is a problem a lot of metalcore bands face live, not because they suck or they cant sing, just because they dont have that level of command over their voice yet. Jesse has improved with the release of their new EP, and idk how TDWP is doing because I grew out of them a few years ago, but I imagine if its the same clean vox he has also improved significantly. If not, then hes going to ruin his voice.

    Those clean vocals were butchered!!! And that's like my fav part of the song. I also feel like he messed up the solo, but it's kind of hard to tell.

    • @NoSoulToFind
      @NoSoulToFind 10 лет назад +4

      I don't expect it to be perfect at all. But I feel like if you can't pull something off well live then you shouldn't take it to the studio, even if they can fix it. Because that to me is like cringe-worthy and ruins an otherwise impeccable song.

    • @callumnorwood4534

      I don't think you'd care too much in the pit irl... Who knows maybe the fall backs were fucked and he couldn't hear himself :P or maybe he can't sing live, who cares they're still a great band x)

    • @bgenevcius
      @bgenevcius 10 лет назад +1

      Actually I think he can't sing live, because he sings that way in all live videos you'll watch. IMO, the live performance is crucial to a band, specially nowadays, that "downloading a CD for free" is getting easier and easier. Most of the money a band can make is in live performance, and therefore such performance should be flawless. I won't stopping listening to the band though.

    • @jaernem
      @jaernem 10 лет назад +1

      I'm sorry, but if you can't sing live like you can on the studio performance while playing an instrument, then you shouldn't. Atreyu, isn't as heavy as this band, but their drummer Brandon Saller is amazing live with his vocals WHILE drumming, and many vocalists play guitar and sing, one that I can think of off the top of my head is Jason from Bury Tomorrow, and he does a great job live as well.

    • @NoSoulToFind
      @NoSoulToFind 10 лет назад

      Thank you Jason Allen. Matt from Trivium plays rhythm guitar while singing, David Davidson from Revocation plays lead guitar and does lead vocals for the band the entire time. I still like Erra, but don't lie to people in your studio recordings. If you have trouble replicating the vocals without pitch correction or can't multi-task and do it properly while still playing, don't try to do it live.

    • @FrinkyDinky
      @FrinkyDinky 10 лет назад +5

      Dude, First of all he is singing whilst playing an instrument, that's difficult enough as is. Secondly He is playing highly technical guitar which would make me believe most of his focus is on playing guitar. Lastly, look at any other metalcore vocalists like danny worsnop, jeremy depoyster and denis shaforostov, they are all extremely capable singers when it comes to acoustic projects and on album performances, but when they go live and are extremely tired, it is difficult for them to sing well.

    • @Aer01614
      @Aer01614 10 лет назад +1

      Good point, as a guitar player myself I can appreciate the extreme difficulty of some of Jessy's parts. I didnt take into account that he is doing both at the same time. Honestly id rather see him lip sink than fail this hard cause i Know he is better than that but like you said its to hard to do both at the same time.

    • @brycenholmesVI
      @brycenholmesVI 10 лет назад +4

      Every vocalists vocals are edited and pitch corrected. No matter what genre of music you hear...every vocalists vocals are edited and fine tuned. Some more than others obviously it's just part of the mixing process when a band is done tracking, but the point is yes he did use pitch correction on the record. Still a great vocalist live.

    • @Aer01614
      @Aer01614 10 лет назад

      Maybe all the bands you listen to use autotune but to me that is detrimental to the music making process. Don t sit here and tell me Kurt Cobain used autotune. Just have yourself a listen to Bleach.

    • @brycenholmesVI
      @brycenholmesVI 10 лет назад +2

      That's funny because I never said anything about the old days because auto-tune and melodyne didn't exist. Sorry I should have clarified that today's music everyone uses pitch correction. Stop acting like you know about audio engineering unless you're in the music industry.
