The New York Dolls were affiliated with the "Glam" movement that included David Bowie, T-Rex and Mott The Hoople. A very influential band on the punk movement that developed shortly after this. The lead singer is indeed David Johanssen, AKA Buster Poindexter Guitarists Sylvain Sylvain and Johnny Thunders both went on the solo careers. Sadly most of the original Dolls predictably died early due to excess.
MOTT was never glam, but with the affiliation with Bowie, they were labeled that way incorrectly. Ian Hunter, Mick Ralph's and Overand Watts , Buffin and Verden Allen always said that. Not my words.
I just had a major OH SHIT moment. When you make the link that he was Buster Poindexter from Scrooged it made me think of another 80s movie. For a moment, I thought he also played the villain in that cheesy National Lampoon's Class Reunion movie. So I googled it and lo and behold the actor who played the villain is Anthony Keidis' dad. Yes, Anthony Keidis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I literally shouted oh shit so loud I woke up my wife. LOL My best friend and I rented Class Reunion back in the 80s from a Video Store (blast from the past) when we were kids and we thought it was the funniest shit ever. Every once in a while we would bring it up and joke about it.
I saw singer David Johansson open up for Aerosmith in the last week of 1984. He was starting his transition into the "Buster Poindexter" persona. He looked completely different but funny thing was he wore that same jacket with Marilyn on the back!
They were entertaining until Malcolm McClaren (ex-manager of The Sex Pistols) got ahold of them. He put them in red leather suits in front of a giant Soviet flag and that was the end. They went their separate ways. Johnny Thunders died of a heroin overdose.
I’m not a huge fan of the New York Dolls, but I do respect them for their pushing of boundaries. Unlike people like Kiss and such, they actually do dress like that outside of performances. They were one of the original New York punk bands, and they are a perfect example of how inclusive the punk community is. When you are in a mosh pit, it don’t matter if you are a man, woman or transgender, you are gonna be treated equally.
Hey I wouldnt mind seeing once in awhile a song that you grew up with and love. You could kind of tell what it meant to you when you first heard it and why its a classic for you. Let us see some of your music taste.
Try out some James Ingram's (R.I.P.) love songs - we lost him in January 2019. He was of the best singers of his time 1. Just Once 2. One Hundred Ways 3. Baby Come to Me 4. How Do You Keep the Music Playing 5. There's Just No Easy Way
One of my favorite songs of all time.. great rhythm, sleazy guitar, brilliant lead singer, glam/glitter rock at its best and girls with a clue love boys who wear make up...... a great change to the boring bands that were doing 10 min drum and organ solos in the 70s... this was the way we dressed in the early to mid 70s... I think you should listen to the Dolls again.. you might change your mind..
Morrissey of The Smiths is a huge Dolls fan and used to write to the British music press singing their praises before he became famous. The Dolls were a little before my time 1974 was when I started to really get into music. Good choice 👍
yes it's the guy that did hot hot hot, I'm amazed you picked that up so quick
Right?
The guitarist Johnny Thunders is a legend and had his own solo career.
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers!
Listening to Johnny is like listening to furious hornets. This guy was IT.
One of the greatest performances that I have seen in my life!
Great Band

These guys were a big influence on the Clash.

This was a great band...forgotten now but a key player in the early New York punk scene.
This is the band KISS tried to look like
In some ways this was the beginning of punk rock. They were hugely influential with groups like the Ramones, etc.
You should react to some early ramones, maybe something live from 1977 NYE London Rainbow Room show.
You knew he did hot hot hot, earned my sub
Back when the music was fun to play and fun to listen
What's with that Zeppelin piece of song at the begining??
seledia just me bored sampling some sounds. 😐
@@themightyfp It was cool! (My heart beat a little faster hearing it, since it's one of my favs). Nice touch, anyway! Love your work ☺
seledia thanks just having as much fun as possible with this little planet were on. ✌️
A guy I have chatted with played the bass on The reunion tour
You should jam out the new release from " Silvertomb " ( Members from Type O Negative and Agnostic Front )- " Crossing Over/ The Otherside".
I guess you could say The Dolls were the first New York punks. I loved these guys. A pretty short career. I loved both of their albums.

The Dolls might be an acquired taste.
Johnny Thunders was the man

Nice to hear someone mention James. Sad what happened to him.

I listened to the Dolls back in the day....watching this video a gazillion years later, I guess I thought they were what you'd call edgy.
I love early punk. Love it.
Good man ,, says Atomic DT,,er I mean ,,ahhh,,you know.
Frank Black- " men in black"
The New York Dolls were all about gender bending. It wasn't just for this song.
Diggin' your choices of songs to react to. How about either Tom Waits or Sarah Jarosz's version of Up To The House?
That's they gf clothes

I would be so psyched if you would react to the search by NF. I always feel like your reactions are so genuine.
I didn't like the Dolls back then, this songs reminded me why.
Let me guess. You like Rush.
@@sukie584Miles, Grateful Dead, Sierra Hull lots of stuff, not glam rock so much. I enjoy people who can play their instruments
