How can you say that the show doesn't want to tell us anything, obviously who made it had a story in his head and wanted to show it to as many people as possible. I think the part of the call that is the most chill inducing is the end when the mother says “tell me that’s not true” but her sobs cut off the last few words because she’s just so hysterical.
Toasted t0Ast that parts pretty creepy once you realize the context but I’m talking about the most chilling part phone call Kenny gets from his mom in the end.
What really fucked me up about this episode is aside from the message, Kenny is so young when he is caught. Most pedophiles are perceived as older men, usually fat or ugly, or usually just not a good person. But Kenny is a young, young man and he acts like he has a good heart and best interests in life, that's why we were on his side at first. The story tricked us into thinking "what did this guy do wrong? He's a good person" but the real message is looks are deceiving and that the person you least expect can have the most dark, perverted mind, regardless of age, gender, race, relationship, circumstance. You just never know
@@cheeseball2967 Exactly. Way more people need to accept that people like Kenny are not necessarily horrible human beings despite the awful things they do, and that they are mentally broken and need help. Of course, society is so fucked these days that merely saying what I just did is sure to get people crawling out of the woodworks to claim that I'm a "pedo sympathizer" or something, but that's not the case, it's merely that people seriously need to stop seeing everything in absolutes. Even truly good people can do horrific things, that doesn't excuse those actions, but that also doesn't mean they are always a lost cause either.
@ROYALTYZ Zzz its not about that its just the way he looks at the cops and realizes it is over for him. even if he walks out of prison, who will expect him home? All his friends saw the video, his mother saw it, his family saw it. He has no one. His life will become a living hell

I wonder how they could prove that he was looking a kids' photo, I understand they can put both videos side by side, but still he could have said it was a photoshop and he actually looked at grown ups photos.
This episode, and this twist, are one of the rare ones that actually gets BETTER on a rewatch. Most twists dont. But when you rewatch it, you can see all the nuances that you never noticed before, like him being so 'sweet' to the little girl with the toy at work, like him being so fiercely protective of his laptop to the point of putting a lock on his door. As much as we're inclined to feel bad for kenny though at no point does he ever experience remorse for the KIDS. he still just feels sorry for himself and only worries about his own reputation. He even kills a man to protect it.
Such a dark ending.... i love it. I was rooting for him. But at the end when it became clear he was looking at kids. You see everything different. The beginning when he helped the little girl... man creeps me out
Hear me out though, maybe society needs to stop demonizing those people. If I'm to believe that people have no control over who they are attracted to, then what am I to make of it? Obviously if you act on it you're a monster, as it's rape, and rape of a child no less, but maybe if those people could get help without being ostracized by society, they wouldn't keep it inside until it burst and they hurt people, IDK. As far as I know, the character didn't molest anyone? It's hard for me to hate him for his urges, even if I find them exceedingly distasteful - otherwise I'd have to hate gay men (not comparing pedophelia to homosexuality, just saying those attractions are alien to me) But any of them who act on their urges are monsters. We all get sexual urges(to adults, for most of us), we all know how easy it is to control them - I've managed to go every day of my life without raping a woman, it was so easy. It's not like sexual urges are compelling and impossible to control. They are making the decision to ruin a child's life
I remember SOBBING in my room after watching this episode. Left me empty. Perhaps the most realistic episode of black mirror. I felt for Kenny the whole time, oblivious to all the warning signs and I felt so sick after his mum phoned him. The acting and the message of this episode was so powerful.
What I really love about this episode is that you sympathize with all these characters, who have done terrible things, instead of chastising them for doing what they did (until the very end). This episode messed me up.
Same I know I'm late but I feel bad for Kenny, regardless of his pedophilia This epsiode mentally broke me, and the fact the hacker made sure he went to jail is pretty messed up
No one would ever disagree with what you said. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel empathy for Kenny. No matter what horrible things someone does you should always be empathetic/ compassionate. I think that’s one of the take aways from this episode. It shows that you cant have a black and white code to judging each other and that despite the circumstances of any giveN situation there’s always room to be empathetic. The fact that so many people could observe the horrible way Kenny and the others were treated, feel so bad for them throughout the episode, and then upon hearing what they had done immediately turn on them and hate them I think shows exactly what the creators wanted which is the tendency for humans to act as the judge jury and executioner of others despite never being innocent themselves. Can’t throw stones and live in a glass house
this scene is so perfect. i’ve seen people say “white bear” has a better twist, but i have to disagree. the horror i felt upon realizing i had been rooting for a predator this whole time, the moms voice on the phone call, the way he sees the police lights just as the music crescendos, absolute masterpiece.
even after knowing what kenny really has been this whole time i still get the same sickness in my stomach as when i first found out the twist. this episode was beautifully done
this episode had me tearing my hair out. i was rooting for him the entire episode thinking he was just doing something most people his age do. but instead he was watching very icky child stuff. it made me think back to every encounter he had that got me scratching my head and really put things into perspective for me. makes me realize how many people i interact with every day that have a secret as terrible as this
"Icky child stuff" is an understatement. CP is one of the most disgusting things out there. I've seen some local cases while working as a paralegal and it's one of the most horrible things out there.
Because without people like Kenny there wouldn't be a market for these twisted fucks to make videos. Arresting one single person for watching that porn means he'll be put away for several years, losing the ability to actually move on and hurt a child. Once he gets out he'll be monitored, which is good, and he'll have to stay away from schools, and won't be allowed to keep children alone. So yes, it's a mental disorder, but it still needs to be punished, because he's taken the first step to actually hurting kids. A person probably goes from having urges and being attracted to them, to looking at porn of them, and finally trying to act on those urges.
As someone who was sexually abused as a toddler & exposed to the cp industry, I can tell you that is false. Ever heard of the dark web? If there were no demand, there would be no supply. People make child porn because they (or others) are attracted to it and want it, which means there is a demand for it. If no one was attracted to it or got anything out of it, no one would make it, because there would be no need for it.
This episode had many messages, but I feel like the most prominent message out of all, *is to show us how a family relative would feel after finding out their son, or nephew, or cousin, had done something so heinous even with all the good memories you made with them. This episode really made us empathize with him and made us root for him, just like a family relative would when they see their loved ones battling with mental health. It hits us with this reality and it's up to us to know how we're going to deal with anything similar to that, if it ever happens. No one really thinks about, say, a mother's love for her son AFTER she just finds out her son's dark side. Like a really bad dark side.*

This episode uses Exit music even better than Westworld's finale. This music always lets you know you're in for a hell of an ending, one of my favorite songs in the greatest album I've ever listened to.
I got to say one thing I really liked about this episode is the fact that we NEVER saw who the people that forced Kenny, Hector and all the others do the things we did. I like that it was kept ambiguous. It makes you wonder what kind of people are they and how long have they been doing this
The original pitch for this episode would've shown a final scene of the hacker working from his laptop in an Internet café in Eastern Europe. The creators ultimately decided it would be more powerful to keep the hacker's identity totally secret.
@ I think that it was for the best, because it was better that we don’t meet the hacker and we never found out who it truly was. Sometimes the unknown is just as effective as meeting someone
I think this episode shows how justice can be peverted. Hector just cheated on his wife and the hackers tortured him. I’m not defending Kenny tho, fuck pedophiles
This is probably my favorite black mirror episode. Kenny is so real. The dude seemed so normal and even after he got outed I still couldnt help but sympathize with him. God this episode was amazing.
I got chills, this has to be the hardest ending I ever saw, I can’t express what I felt when his mom called, her screams, Kenny’s face, the plot twist that we were seeing a young predator who looked like the victim, a masterpiece
One thing that appeals to me the most is that the police don't tackle him to the ground like they would a "normal" peado. Rather, they apprehend him without force, Because they see how young he is. It makes this whole scene just so damn sad knowing his life has come to an early end..
At 0:37, you can hear Hector’s wife saying “Mindy?” as he’s going up the stairs. It’s muffled but you can still understand her. It makes me so sad imagining her reaction to finding out her husband was cheating on her because he “got bored.”
@Zo Cove yeah the wife only has one word to say, yet she says it so god damn perfectly. Undercut of venom in her tone followed by that look of "How could you...?" Such a wonderful moment of good as fuck acting.
@@jfnshit772 Fr because the actresses who played Kenny’s mom and Hector’s wife don’t have much screen time, but they did an awesome job when it was their time to shine 👏🏻
The reason this episode was so good was because of the twist and how anyone can be a pedo, even the seemingly innocent protagonist. It can be anyone, your boss, your parent, your sibling, your best friend, your partner, anyone. They're experts at hiding what they are and you'll likely never know for sure. Having been on the internet for a long time, I'm sure it's more common than any of us think.
I mean... Why do everyone finds pedophiles as monsters since 1. They can't control their wishes 2. They control their actions and don't let wishes materialize. ? They're ill, that's the problem of society, not only their's. They should be treated but not punished for things they've been born with.
I went back to the start after I finished to look back over and find details, and it’s so worth a second watch, you see everything he does in such a different disgusting light
The fact the writers shattered all expectations of Kenny as a character and who we thought he was truly wowed me the first time I watched this. The mom's voice performance obviously sold it too. The heartbreak she portrayed in that call was so real
Imo, the episode overplayed its hand when it wanted me to believe that a kid would rob a bank to cover up jacking it. I didn't go to CP, but it was blindingly obvious it was more than polishing your lance at that point, like jerkin the gherkin to his sister or something messed up like that.
I love how they sync up the lyrics to the scene. My first time watching, I actually let myself believe Hector got away when the song plays “today…we escape, we escape”. That first troll face is just so silly yet so sadistic it really shuffled my brain up
This was the second episode of Black Mirror I ever watched, and to be honest, it’s the episode that got me HOOKED. great story, great acting, heartbreaking ending.
I genuinely didn’t see it coming, since I was rooting for this kid through it all, when the creep said "how young?" I tought "oh this weirdo think good ol' Kenny is a pedophile, he was just watching regular porn." The phone call at the end blew my mind
1:53 if you look closely, you'll see that she owned the Wayhaven hotel company (aka the hotel Hector was in), & on the right you'll see there's an article about PM "Callow", a reference to the very first BM episode.
The way the blue and red lights wash onto his expression of pure dread and shock, it gives me the chills every time. One of the top Black Mirror endings of all time, hands down.
I love the actress voice acting in that call at the end, it's incredible, she alone sells the entire episode, everything led to that point and her performance, and she nailed it.
Also its crazy how it was almost like Kenny was so traumatized and caught in his own spirit and guilt that when his mom called not only did he answer he didnt even greet her with a hello... silenced throughout the whole Convo!!!
I find it interesting that the police officers arresting Kenny weren’t aggressive with him, almost like they see him as an innocent victim getting tormented, just like we (the audience) viewed him until the reveal.
what an incredible ending to an incredible episode left me speechless and mortified. This was just so thought provoking and i really love how this episode also kinda had a psychological horror aspect to it, cause the thought of this scenario is fucking terrifying simply because of how possible it is in reality
I kept saying throughout the episode - why would Kenny be so scared about the wank video being leaked that he would go to such extremes - never once thinking that such an innocent looking guy would have such a dark secret. The actor who plays Kenny is phenomenal. Pure face acting. The way he shows terror throughout this episode is phenomenal, and of course at the end the look in his eyes of pure fear. Incredible episode.
He embodied the role so perfectly it's like a regular average human being
In the end what I saw not fear but complete broken...what he was fearing is getting exposed and that already happened so the fear is gone now and he reached the bottom... did not care about police coming to arrest him he just kept walking .. if he has ballet in his gun I assume he would have press the trigger

You just never know
He wasn’t a bad person. He was SICK and needed help.
Not to defend a pedo, but i kinda disagree: he only kills the other man in self-defence (tries to kill himself first)
Kenny wanted to commit suicide, but the gun was empty. Then the other guy leaped on him
Let's just say there were no good people in this episode.
I can't bring myself to rewatch this episode. It already hurts enough seeing this clip. But just... I can't...
to be fairrrrrr he killed him in self defense
Such a dark ending.... i love it. I was rooting for him. But at the end when it became clear he was looking at kids. You see everything different. The beginning when he helped the little girl... man creeps me out
I felt queasy at the end. So warped.
It's hard for me to hate him for his urges, even if I find them exceedingly distasteful - otherwise I'd have to hate gay men (not comparing pedophelia to homosexuality, just saying those attractions are alien to me)
But any of them who act on their urges are monsters. We all get sexual urges(to adults, for most of us), we all know how easy it is to control them - I've managed to go every day of my life without raping a woman, it was so easy. It's not like sexual urges are compelling and impossible to control. They are making the decision to ruin a child's life

@@goobcity6502 what does that feel like
"Icky child stuff" is an understatement. CP is one of the most disgusting things out there. I've seen some local cases while working as a paralegal and it's one of the most horrible things out there.
The worst part is that i was on the kids side until the end
Because without people like Kenny there wouldn't be a market for these twisted fucks to make videos. Arresting one single person for watching that porn means he'll be put away for several years, losing the ability to actually move on and hurt a child. Once he gets out he'll be monitored, which is good, and he'll have to stay away from schools, and won't be allowed to keep children alone.
So yes, it's a mental disorder, but it still needs to be punished, because he's taken the first step to actually hurting kids. A person probably goes from having urges and being attracted to them, to looking at porn of them, and finally trying to act on those urges.
Without demand there would be no supply. If you can't understand that simple logic, then that's your problem.
It's the demand that encourages supply, not the other way around. It's that simple.
The sole reason that they would do it for "self satisfaction" means that there is a demand for it.
The thing is though, Kenny isn't evil, he has a sexual disorder. In a more enlightened society he'd be given help and counselling.

Sometimes the unknown is just as effective as meeting someone

hahaha
The music is so perfectly in sync. That drum right when the mom says “You were looking at kids.” Haunting scene that’s just so many emotions at once
This is the best BM episode, and frankly, there has been little that came close afterwards
Black museum? Theres a lot
playtest is good
I kept saying throughout the episode - why would Kenny be so scared about the wank video being leaked that he would go to such extremes - never once thinking that such an innocent looking guy would have such a dark secret. But all the clues were there. The scene with the young girl at the beginning, the paranoia around his laptop and locking the door.
Peak Black Mirror.
Don't think I've seen a harder hitting ending to an episode on TV to be fair.
The plot twist, the acting, the editing, fricking Radiohead... Will always be the most powerful Black Mirror ending
