Seagate drives really depend on the time they were made tho barracuda ones are a bit meh and fail a bit too much. seagate exos drives are nice tho

The problem is that in 10 years you know if they were good or bad drives :-)

In my NAS I have had Seagate Ironwolf and WD RED (SMR and CMR) all at the same time. If anything was going to be unreliable it would be that. But, it survived.
Now they are mostly WD Gold, but the two Seagate are still there. I say that it is all luck.
Except the two WD that arrived broken. That wasn't luck. That was death by postal service.

I've had all sorts of drives fail over time. None are immune failure. These days I use 5400rpm 3.5" (Seagate) drives for non-boot devices regularly. Of course the data is backed up.

I have also seen all of them fail,,, but some more than others...

I prefer Seagate. I don't like to have a drive that lasts too long. Otherwise I will forget how to replace it.

It didn't do a bad job for a basic Barracuda, being their cheapest low end drives. Would've expected a much quicker demise in a rack server.

@@MyPlayHouse I must have had around ten IBM Deskstar in my life, they all died. The only one that still holds is in the freezer to treat a wound.. This is my way of hard drive recycling.
