20th Jan I remember the love of my life's birthday, who died in a motorcycle crash in the IOM in Oct 2018. Just found this through FolkAlley, says everything I feel. Thank you so much for this most poignant beautiful song X
Can someone tell me the exact name of the lap drum being played by Suzie Boguss with the brush drumsticks? I have looked at many instrument sites and cannot find a match. The rhythm set by the brush sticks on the lap drum sounds really nice.
I’ve now watched this enough times to notice that it’s a wooden box with hinges and something pasted on top. There’s a really neat drum part on some Paul Simon song that actually is a tape box stuffed with paper - they just messed around until they got the sound they wanted. I thought this was a small briefcase at first, but it looks like wood. Backgammon case maybe? ETA: a paint box?
Stuff like this is what makes it special. Thanks for posting.
GRETCHEN PETERS IS GOLD!!
Gretchen Peters is a national treasure. This is beyond beautiful.

Isn't it always the case where simple acoustic and percussion instruments blended with great voices make the best music? Made better by a good story!
Absolutely wonderful!
Truly beautiful xx
"I'm no Christian but I ain't afraid to die" is hands-down my favorite line in the song, so far. I haven't been listening to them long.
Honestly that line bothers me. I have very little faith myself but it feels like she is putting down those who do.
Gretchen Suzy Mateaca this us insanely beautiful as are y'all

Wow!
Super🙋

ETA: a paint box?
She created it herself.
