When I returned to Squint at the Mill, he just stood there and looked at me with no dialogue options. I think this was a bug, and it left me no choice but to kill Squint to resolve the quest.
funny thing happened to me,i did his quest to get the artifact and killed him after to get the extra pay! later in the story i met him again all well and alive
What was interesting for me was that as I was creeping up to him I accidently triggered a trap of his and it hit him. I had no choice to heal him so I had to end him.

Squint is a murderer and a thief who killed multiple unarmed men after they were ambushed by mutants. He is far from a 'non hostile character.'

@@ykmopopp3660 well he showed up after the first mission in garbage at the prison outside the the office of spark,he also had a few voice lines
