Seeing how Mia hits something she hates, just makes sense. Everything she does is so polite and gentle. 🙈 Genuinely surprised she didn’t say sorry to the clay. I assume that was off camera.
Mia is so cute, I’ve been a ceramicist for 8 years and I absolutely adore watching Mia throw. Seeing a beginner work so hard and obviously loving it warms my heart. I think everyone should give ceramics a try, it’s so amazing. Also did anyone else have a heart attack when Mia moved the wet clay off the wheel to dry?! I’m always to afraid of distorting so I leave it on the wheel on a light spin for 5 minutes until it’s in the plastic phase and easily movable 😭
Also Mia if you see this by any chance lol, you might be able to find a pottery studio near you that has a community kiln if you ever want to fire your pieces!!
MIA!!! You should also try “icing carving”. So you basically make a colorful cake, and stack a lot of Icing in it. And then you carve the frozen icing to reveal the colorful cake!! You would excel at this, I’m sure
I'm watching this in my living room and my mom said "wow her makeup is so good" and "she's sooo pretty" so I thought I'd share the message lol Update: she said she loves your hair too lol
Me, a ceramics expert and has an associate degree in art: takes notes aggressively lol *Edit* Here's some things I noticed from a ceramasist point of view. 1. You always wedge the clay before working with it. This helps remove air bubbles and makes the process easier. 2. I suspect you're working with porcelain clay. Did you purchase clay with grog or no grog? It makes a big difference as to the ease of working with it. You're a beginner, and you should make it as easy as you can.😊 So I suggest buying white stoneware with grog in it. The texture in the clay is more beginner friendly and is what I started working with. 3. Look up some videos or ask your mom to show you how to cone. It's a crucial step in throwing anything on the wheel. Another thing, ask her about making pulls on the wheel as well. It helps you catch any air bubbles and helps you build up the sides of the piece. I hope this helps. I in no way intended to come across as mean. I hope you don't see it as anything other than helpful tips. 🙂 Ceramics is fun and versatile art and I hope you continue with it
I commented about it at first then didn’t see any others so i deleted. I didn’t want to be lame in case I late!! So happy for her!!! Congratulations Mia!! You deserve it!!
You could make a twisted candle for the yellow dish. Also, if you wanna put a plant in the next one, you'll need to put a small drain hole in the bottom so water won't rot your roots. 😊 You did great! 💜
I went to college for illustration but took a ceramic class my first year and ever since fell in love 😍 so now I encourage everyone to take one!!! But here’s some tips! When you cut the piece off of the wheel put your hand and wire on the opposite side of the clay turn the wheel on VERY slow and cut it off. Makes it a lot easier 🙂 they also make things called “pot holders” that are meant for taking pottery off of the wheel. Or you could throw on a bat. Which go on the wheel so you don’t have to worry about taking them off, you just have to make sure you cut it off before you leave it on them.
When I seen “paid partnership” pop up on the video at the start I genuinely got so excited. I was just WAITING on the punch line and transition into the AD 😂😂 smash it every time honestly
Yea i get bored of all of The other ytbers cuz alot of them r just doing The same trends and it g’ets so boring but Mia just does her own thing you know xD
I went to school for art and would get so frustrated and disappointed because we're graded, so it's so wonderful to see you have fun with it and embrace the flaws 😭 My bowls would always flare out like Winnie the Pooh's honeypot, that warmed my heart so much!!
If it's flaring up like that and you want to avoid it, its because there's too much water so it's not as stable anymore. Easy fix. If you like the flare, then by all means, keep doing what you're doing girl!
When you’re trimming the pieces on the wheel you should use new chunks of clay on the edges to stick it to the wheel so it doesn’t fly off! Also, if your wheel speed is a little faster while trimming you’ll be less likely to gouge a chunk out of your piece. And make sure it’s centered on the wheel before trimming it so the sides will be even. I hope it helps!
Mia really out here making sure her time isn't wasted and she is learning all the skills. Then there is me.. I'll just go play The Sims and max out all my skills on there.
Love the pottery and I haven't stopped smiling since the case ad with your mom. I freaking love you guys. Thank you for continuing to make content that keeps me sane. Much love to you all.
This really made me smile, how a lot of people now are getting into pottery. I'm very proud to say that my paternal grandmother is a professional pottery-maker, and she uses real clay from soil that she digs up from their backyard. The land in my dad's hometown is rich in clay so many people there do pottery for a living. They mostly do large pots though, like cooking pots, flower pots, also vases (like reallyyy huge vases) and dwarfs that people use to decorate their garden with, also bricks. And they cook them in manmade man-size ovens! Like several people can fit inside the oven 😆 they build really huge ovens because they cook many pottery at once. What's another interesting thing is that they build their own pottery wheel and it's all mechanical! They turn the wheel with their own foot! Another interesting thing is that with some cooking pots, they shape them by slapping the pot with a stick that has one end that's wider and flat. 😆 And to smoothen the surface, they would rub it with a really smooth seashell and it makes the pots a lil shiny. I used to earn money by doing that when i was a kid! 😆 I should tell my grandma to try making cute things like these and paint them and glaze them, coz i've never seen her paint their products (i think they never paint them) so the end result is just red brick colored. It would be cuter to paint them like these!
I've been really stressed lately, but I was feeling so relaxed after this video, thank you Mia.. the music was really calming for me .. and you inspired me to try this at least with my hands! I mean I study design so I was working with clay before, but never tried it at home to make some cute jewerly holder or something like that.. thank you

me screaming at the computer "compress the rim!" and then Mia saying "I'm learning!" gave me the biggest laugh. Jon the Potter on RUclips is amazing for learning.
Hey hey Mia! Just a little tip for painting!! I’d recommend buying a cheap pallet knife or even just using some type of stick to mix the paint. In the long run, it helps to not mix it with the brush hairs as sometimes the paint gets jammed into the base of the hairs, often it’s hard to tell, and then the brush becomes very stiff even after rinsing. Sometimes if I can’t find my pallet knife, I just use the opposite end of the brush. Idk I just know it’s helped me a lot :) Also I loooved the video, you’re doing such an amazing job!! I can’t wait to see what else you make

two tips i learned from high school ceramics, when trimming the bottom it’s helpful to have small piece of wet clay holding the piece to the wheel, kind of like tape :) also, it might be helpful if you get little plates that connect to the wheel so you don’t have to cut it off and lift the piece, you can just cut it and then move the plate!
The purpose of wedging is to align all the molecules and get them going in the same direction so the clay doesn't fight you on the wheel. Also removes air.
So when you trim a piece on the wheel, you can center the piece then support it with small balls of clay. If you do that then you can properly use the loop tool to trim while the wheel rotated. That way you trim more evenly!
I know that all your videos are really spaced out over years.. but you are living the life of crafting that I desire to live too. To try all the different types of arts and crafts. I enjoy it so much! I did ceramics in college. Half the class was hand crafting and the other half was pottery wheel. I enjoyed every moment of it! Keep crafting!
As an art teacher who is currently introducing clay to my classes, this was fun to watch :) Ps - wedging the clay does help get rid of air pockets. Those pockets could potentially destroy a piece when it’s fired.
Yeah my last pottery project in high school was collateral damage because a student didn’t get all the air pockets out. Their project took out my goblet and 3 others.
Not me literally refreshing the page, at 11:30pm here in india waiting for this video! I made two jewellery dish like weeks ago, without the wheel, ofc, and it is the most therapeutic thing I HAVE EVER DONE! Also congratulations, 3M!!!! ✨
I love you! im so glad you are taking up this hobby, as I absolutely love pottery! I just wanted to say that when you are sanding your clay pieces, it is very important to either where a mask and/or take it outside because clay dust is toxic and can linger inside your home or workspace. That's why I try to smooth my pieces out as much as possible before drying/painting as well as cleaning and wiping down your 'studio' after every use. thanks for reading! much love good health going your way!
This was honestly so relaxing to watch, I had a rough day and this was the first thing to get my mind of of it and calm me down🥰 Mia is just so amazing🖤

The small one looks like it could hold tea light candles just a thought 💭😁
I thought so to, like one of the round bottom floating ones. It looks like those would fit perfectly in it
Right ☺️
Even I had the same thought 🤩
Yeah I think it would do too!
LOVED this video!!
CONGRATS ON REACHING 3M Mia!!🎊🎉🎈🎁
So beautiful I loved how you matched them
"so its like this little whale, its his birthday" SOLD 👏🏼
two tips i learned from high school ceramics, when trimming the bottom it’s helpful to have small piece of wet clay holding the piece to the wheel, kind of like tape :) also, it might be helpful if you get little plates that connect to the wheel so you don’t have to cut it off and lift the piece, you can just cut it and then move the plate!
They turned out soooo cute well done Mia you're so artistic and crafty I love making things too so satisfying making something from scratch
Omg congrats on 3 million Mia!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
The purpose of wedging is to align all the molecules and get them going in the same direction so the clay doesn't fight you on the wheel. Also removes air.
So when you trim a piece on the wheel, you can center the piece then support it with small balls of clay. If you do that then you can properly use the loop tool to trim while the wheel rotated. That way you trim more evenly!
Props to you for actually giving her advice rather than just criticizing her!
I love how u enjoy the process❤
As an art teacher who is currently introducing clay to my classes, this was fun to watch :)
Ps - wedging the clay does help get rid of air pockets. Those pockets could potentially destroy a piece when it’s fired.
Yeah my last pottery project in high school was collateral damage because a student didn’t get all the air pockets out. Their project took out my goblet and 3 others.
@@ahub87 yikes! In college, a project fell on mine in the kiln on the last firing. Ours ended up being fused together by our glazes.
Not me literally refreshing the page, at 11:30pm here in india waiting for this video!
I made two jewellery dish like weeks ago, without the wheel, ofc, and it is the most therapeutic thing I HAVE EVER DONE!
Also congratulations, 3M!!!! ✨
me too!!! every Friday Sunday at 11:30!
Great job Mia!! You explained it so well! Thanks for sharing. Very adorable pieces.
the most relaxing video i hope this becomes a series! I love the music
When Mia's mom popped in, my body literally took a screenshot. lmaooo it was so calm lol
I read this wrong 😂
@@lindsayg1014 lollll did you read it that Mia's mom popped in my body? 😂
@@lindsayg1014 I fixed it 😂
That abrupt entrance from her mum for the ads was truly amazing
I love you! im so glad you are taking up this hobby, as I absolutely love pottery!
One of the most beautiful kind of art to ever exist.
The little yellow one could be a tealight holder btw
This was honestly so relaxing to watch, I had a rough day and this was the first thing to get my mind of of it and calm me down🥰 Mia is just so amazing🖤
