Rene Wise closing Berghain was my all time favorite set I ever experienced. Had everyone glued to the dancefloor, perfect mixing made it feel like we were on a starship. Was an amazing storytelling masterpiece!
Good on him for being honest about using clones, FL Studio and not having everything clocked. It's inspiring to hear honestly. It has that DIY ethos that I can get behind. Sure, there are 'better' ways but are they more comfortable for you? So long as you are happy with the end results who cares how you get there!?
I love his approach. It takes a lot of confidence in your gear, your talent and experience, to record with relatively cheap and accessible gear, (not all of it of course) Routing everything through the crusty old Tascam mixer is just hammering home that point.
My brother and I had the privilege to be in club Cargo in Lissabon/Portugal last sunday, where Rene Wise played an epic set for about 4 or 5 hours! Perfect from the beginning to the very end. Techno as it should be...We hope to see you soon in Belgium...😎🎶🎵🥳 Thanx man!
future? Good artist... but he is not the future. He didn't really create a style like vigorito, plastig man, legowelt, beyer etc. But hey can be al that, enough time.
@@kerstmeeuw5096 that's all fine. But I know well about the everything that has been released from 1995 till now. 10000's of EPs. etc. So I know what I'm talking about. Everything you hear has already been done.

Simply inspiring. From his views on fidelty to his way of working without midi sync, and as well his pragmatism and minimalism in gear usage: really awesome.
@@unowamusicent.3702 be that as it may, those users barely _use_ Fl Studio, there is quite a bit of power “under the hood” there (Benn Jordan has a series of videos that showcase just how powerful Fl Studio can be)
as a longtime FL Studio user myself, i'm most impressed that he is using it almost exclusively for audio. it is also cool that he taps out the BPM to match what is going on externally. this probably adds to the vibe/swing.
it's much more common to sync tempo manually in the hardware realm than one would expect. due to the ridiculous amount of cabling and routing necessary to interconnect everything, the midi sync can often be put on hold and remain that way.
I was so convinced there was modular in his setup because of all the rytmic elements but just see what you can do with a humble setup. One of the best out there! Thx for the vid.
I have always been fascinated at the idea of modular but dont have the courage to take that leap yet haha. But i know its a rabbit hole i will love going down, eventually..
i am sure the sound will be right for you@@rene_wise, on the other hand the workflow might not be as intuitive as it is with your setup now. I can imagine you can program most things almost blindly with with the way you have set things up at this point.
@@rene_wise I like modular synths myself, but as someone with ADHD (read very poor impulse control and management) I have given myself a very hard “no modular synths” rule, if you want to see how you like Modular synths, try out VCV rack or Cardinal on computer, they are both free (well VCV is free ish)
I like this kind of approach to creating tracks, - I use a similar approach, I just refer to it as, - The Path of Least Resistance - -- I essentially just use Logic to record the stereo outs, or sub groups, from my mixer, But honestly, most of the time I just record the whole thing live, in one take, mistakes and all, - after all, personally for me, I'm only creating the stuff for myself. - love to ALL, and god bless
the fact that he has established himself as a producer is already well known but I don’t know an artist who performs at such a high level in both DJing and Producing (especially new school i mean).
Love Rene Wise. His sounds are so outerwordly and unique I'm having a hard time even imagining them coming out of those synths. Surprised by the tascam too cause the sounds to me are pretty clean but i guess i do hear some subtle saturation going on. The no clocking thing had my ears perk up but i get it, getting everything to play nicely is a hassle sometimes trying to get everything to talk to each other, I'm sorta diving more deep into that workflow but it might be a waste of time!
thank you! The tascam's character comes from the EQ's and driving the channel gains. Thats when you can really rough things up. It also has a pretty obvious noise floor, depending on how quiet you record things through it.
He's pretty bang on about trying to sync everything to the DAW, even though it's possible with ERM Multiclocks and the like there's a lot of faff involved! (Also interesting that INVT do the same!) Also nice to see someone use legit acoustic panels, so surprising how many pros use the foamy ones - they can literally do nothing about low frequencies and if anything only accentuate the problems you already have (which are invariably the ones that need fixing way more than the treble...) - people need to know!
the panels he has will also do very little for low frequencies, pretty much nothing below 125 Hz, maybe a little up to 250 Hz, only above that will they absorb.
@@RadekPilich Looks like has some corner bass traps, the GIK ones go down to around 80hz before dropping off. But yeah you just need thickness for anything sub 100. The cheap foam ones which you see all the time go absolutely nowhere near this, it's actually pretty scandalous!
Octatrack is used to sequence my synths and any audio from the octatrack just gets routed to one or two of the tascam channels. I use it a sequencer and instrument, not as a mixer. For me as a dj that is playing deep minimal techno sound.
You got to have tracks like this in your set. Even his rmx‘s that he created a great.
Really refreshing - wild mix of hardware/software but clearly just focusing on what works for him
Very inspiring interview. It's also nice to hear that a producer works with FL Studio and Behringer.

Techno is starved of new ideas.
So by adding ”dark” infront of DnB you think you’re more creative? 😄
Make some good music instead of smelling your own farts
I just saw him live and whilst I agree it's not groundbreaking, it is very well done, dance-able and elegant techno. I thought he was great.
