    Did you realise the actor of Cregan Stark at the beginning of the episode is young Uhtred Ragnarson from the first episode of the Last Kingdom! The Last Kingdom cast in this show is strong.
    The scenes with Jacaerys were some of my favourites this episode, especially the one with his mum. I also find the character trait where Daemon was desperate to blame everyone else in his own grief.
    I also enjoy the character detail of Aemond making plans with Criston, which we saw last season as well (Aemond offering to go with Criston, etc) which makes sense judging Criston has been there his whole life and trained him, and Aemond also respects him as a warrior. Criston is really fulfilling that mum's boyfriend role lol

    NO SPOILERS HERE, don't worry
    1)In case you got an impression Helaena did her choice too quickly - she's autistic and her disassociation is the way her mentality copes with the stress. Also, the actress said Helaena was afraid they were about to kill both her kids , so she decided to tell the truth and at least save her daughter.
    2)Also, a detail many might miss - there are 3 cribs in the children room. Two for the twins and one is built for a younger child next to the door. You can see it behind Helaena in the scene where Aegon comes to take Jaehaerys to the council meeting. So most likely Helaena is pregnant.
    3). To be fair , I prefer book version of this scene. in the book she and Aegon have 3 children - the twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera and younger son Maelor. In the book Helaena makes the choice between her sons. Unlike innyhe show, she begs Blood and Cheese ( the rat catcher and another guy) wants them to kill her instead, but Blood says she needs to choose which son to kill or otherwise he grapes her daughter. Helaena names the younger son Maelor because she thinks he at least doesn't understand that his mother has pointed him out. But then Cheese does the most horrific thing - he whispers to the younger son " do you hear it, boy ? Your mummy wants you dead" and Blood cuts Jaehaerys' head instead, leaving Helaena with the son she has chosen to kill.
    It's way too brutal but I believe they could have adapted this scene without showing the kids too much.

      They definitely smoothed things a bit for tv D:! While watching, I got the feeling she pointed towards her son as a way to save him from his own faith as the heir (knowing he would be forced to be a part of the game and all) but then, it made sense she would do what she did to avoid being killed with her daughter if she tried to lie D:

    • @yasmina3999
      @yasmina3999 Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, also in the book Alicent is with Helaena during b&c. While in the show she rides Cole 💀 I ESPECIALLY don't like this change. Not only other reactions were literally laughing after Helaena enters the room, since it just looked silly, but it shifted the focus from horrific b&c to a random sex scene between charachers that didn't have built up. It automatically makes us feel disgusted &feel like Alicole is wrong. People already blame Alicent for being a wh**e abd giving Helaena second trauma. But I do understand where it comes from because playing b&c next to Alicole sex was a bad choice. This contrast reflexively evokes feelings of injustice, anger or disgust to Alicent and Cole. As if we saw a poor grandfather on the street who sells his things to survive, and then we saw rich drunken youth having fun. The latter are not to blame for grandfather’s poverty, but placing these two lifestyles next to each other creates an unpleasant impression of those who have it easy, especially if it includes "sinful pleasures" like alcohol or sex. It's especially messy because Alicent in the book suffers next to Helaena.

    • @yasmina3999
      @yasmina3999 Месяц назад +1

    What many failed to take into account was that the scene of Daemon giving his instructions cut short.....He said Aemond and described him and then was asked what if we can't find him...there is 99% certainty that he gave the message that he always gave in the book in simple words "An eye for an eye, a son for a son-Prince Lucerys shall be avenged"...So yea Daemon hoped for Aemond but in the end for him a son is a son period and that's what they opted for when they fell upon Helena's kids-

    Loved this episode. The only thing that was a bit flat to me was the opening scene, I loved the Stark intro at the start but the conversation was just a bit... Bland? Felt a bit like just Stark/The Wall fan service. One simple change to make it way more interesting would have been to have Rhaenyra tell Jace about Aegon's dream, and then have that be what the conversation is about with Cregan, rather than this weird "the audience knows what's going on but the two characters on screen are coming to the same conclusion without having the key information" where they just discuss Aegon and Torrhen.
    Particularly loved just the little bit of worldbuilding in the scene with Arryk on the walls. The idea that the soldiers are on air defence duty and have like sketches to memorize of the different dragons to identify them to know whether they're friend or foe? Was just really neat to see a bit of actual military tactics be put in. A bit of lore worth noting, Meraxes the dragon of Aegon's sister-wife Rhaenys (whom the Targaryens descend from) was killed (along with her rider) by a scorpion in the First Dornish War shortly after the conquest, so they are proven weapons.

    Cole and Alicent do not have sex in the book. In fact, Cole doesn't even have sex with Rhaenrya. It's a choice the show make to make the Greens look like hypocrites.
    That said, there were rumors that Alicent slept with King Jahaerys as well as Daemon. But again such rumors were written after the fact by men who hated Alicent.

    In the books Blood&Cheese is much different.
    First off, Aemond is never mentioned to be the target, and Rhaenyra is not the one to incite the mission. Daemon sends Rhaenyra a letter from Harrenhal (in the books he is already there) that says-
    “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged”.
    B&C sneak into the Tower of the Hand, which is not guarded as heavily as Maegor’s Holdfast-where Aemond was-and they head for Alicent’s chambers, who was getting ready for bed (Criston and her are not a thing in the book). Helaena and her three children (Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, who was not present in the show version) were on the way for their nightly visit to Alicent. When they get there, they find Alicent tied to the bed and her bedmaid strangled. Blood bars the door and Cheese takes Maelor and tells Helaena to choose which son of hers will die. Helaena pleads that they kill her instead but they refuse, siting- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. A wife is not a son.”
    Cheese tells her that if she does not choose then Blood will grape her daughter and they will kill everyone in the room. Eventually, Helaena chooses Maelor, her younger son. Maybe it was because she thought he would be too young to understand , or perhaps it was because the elder boy, Jaehaerys, was Aegon’s first born and heir. Cheese holds Maelor up and whispers to him-
    “You hear that, little one, your momma wants you dead”.
    Then, in one clean motion, Blood strikes of the older boys-Jaehaerys’s-head, and the two take off with it. When the guards finally burst through the door, they find Helaena grasping her son’s headless body to her, mad with grief.
    So yeah, Blood&Cheese is much more tame in the show.

    In wartime there are really no rules of engagement. You attack your enemy to wound and defeat.
    Why is it more acceptable that Raynera's son gets killed , who is still a child, and not Aagon's son? They are both still babies in my book. So a son for a son an eye for an eye.

      It wasn't ok for Lucerys to die either, one doesn't justify the other, though. Especially in the case of innocent kids. Rhaenyra wanted Aemond for her son's life, which both makes sense in the way of revenge, but also as a military strategy, since he's a great warrior. Killing Aegon's first born will only help fuel his anger :/

      @@kyuujinreactsI agree with your assessment of its not a good strategy to kill the child However this was not planned by either Raynera or Daemond.
      Let's look at another angle. The greens have the upper hand in terms of strategy because they have suffered no losses. Hence they are not fueled by emotions or vengeance and can easily stay the course.
      Raynera on the other hand has had a number of losses in a short period of time; losing her mother, her children's father, her father, her daughter and now her son to murder at the hands of the greens.
      Any human being would explode under these circumstances.

      Incorrect. There are rules for war. Killing a child is a "war crime".
      Further, in this world, Luke was a man not a child. If Luke is a child, then so are Aegon, Aemond, and Helaena. Recall they grew up together. Under your logic, if Daemon was successful and killed Aemond he would also be killing a child.

    Welcome back , first off someone give Emma Darcy their flowers cause man the way they portrayed rhaenrya with only one dialogue that expressed so many emotions in this episode ughhhhh perfection❤🤌🏾, my heart broke for both of my queens rhaenrya and helaena who went through sm, a lot of fans wanted dark gritty blood and cheese scene and felt it wasn’t enough is so crazy to me when hearing that little boy getting killed off screen was too much for me tbh, nobody ever listens to helaena who dissociates and is heavily influenced by her dreams so she can’t tell what’s her reality which they did a good job portraying but they should’ve shown more of her so people wouldn’t get “ oh she’s weird or an idiot or I don’t know what she means or the bug girl eww” book fans need to understand that the show runners already changed a lot in the show compared to the book by now where helaena is way different in the show version so her reaction made sense to me but some really didn’t like how she reacted as a mother which i can’t imagine being in her shoes, she was already trying to process what was happening and didn’t know if she had enough time to do something quick cause what’s to say if she did really try they would’ve ended up killing both her babies and her all together so she had to saved at least one kid instead of neither but it was so heartbreaking to see her face and the way it looked like she knew it was already gonna happen and couldn’t save her son! And she had to hear the noises oooof that’s brutal, She was literally out of it and was saying “ please, please” over again as she’s carrying her baby girl out of the room, poor baby was so distraught that she didn’t realize where she was until the first room she remembered which used to be rhaenrya’s since her mom moved there and she took over alicent’s room since she’s the queen now but the fact that there was no one around at all that she could go to so her instinct was her mom who was riding dusty Cole who was supposed to be guarding helaena and her children so i can’t wait to see what excuse they come up with to aegon and everyone! They made me sick and traumatized my girl helaena who was already going through so much and they way she didn’t even say anything nor notice what they were doing but sat on the floor calmly😭💔 I think it’s gonna haunt her or her dreams are gonna be too much to the point she’s gonna really break down with heavy guilt everytime they happen😢 the beach scene, jace and rhaenrya broke me like why….💔😭🤧🥺at this point i need my girl to rage and I’m sick of the greens at this point cause they need to go at this point except sweet helaena who is stuck with that terrible green family! If Aegon lives long enough he might be an ok king, definitely sucks now, maybe he'll get lucky? I'm wondering how he'll take his son getting killed next episode, been skipping the previews. It's definitely hard to sympathize with Aegon when you see how uncomfortable all the handmaids are around him. Even in S1 when his younger actor was playing him. He's not as bad as Joffrey at least, he doesn't seem to entirely comprehend how his actions affect others, it's all "harmless fun" to him. He is young though and no one in this show is that good of a person, maybe he'll grow up.

    I don’t know why there is so much back and forth over the heir’s death. This is a war for the throne. all of black targaryens or all of green targaryens need to die for the other not to constantly have one eye open. Not expecting Aegon’s heir needing to die sooner or later for rhaenyra to rule is just naive. The same goes for every single one of rhaenyra and daemon’s kids.
