That's how I had my 15s in a 4th order in my trunk. A 1:1 ratio for good bandwidth tuned to 45 hertz. Back in the day (90s) lot of guys had 18s in the trunk but mostly in sealed boxes.

Ya it needs to be a tad bigger. And just for my musical taste not as deep to get a more broad bandwidth. I would have went with at min 16 cu in of Port area per cuft and seal the trunk off

Yeah all the bass is stuck in the trunk. This is poorly exceuted..the front of the car should be shaking not the rear..all that pressure is stuck in the front..with deadner and being sealed this could be dope ,but nope
Power and cone area. This would be louder sealed. With as much cheap power and the power handling of shit these days everyone could do sealed and be loud as fuck.
No, it would not be louder sealed its way more efficient in its frequency pass band than any sealed box with the same power . You would most likely blow the subs in a week if not sooner , trying to put enough power to a sealed setup to get as loud as his.

These subs cannot get anywhere near their potential because they're choking themselves out. No amount of reorientation of the speakers or sealing the trunk is going to help because the motors on these subs simply aren't strong enough. They should have used JL 18w6s with a BL rating of 41 or a similar sub with a really high motor force. There's just not enough air space for the subs he used to be really effective. One of these 18s on half the power would likely put up pretty close to the same SPL as both combined and at a substantially lower cost.
