You two are simply amazing =) I've been on a board game review kick recently. I started with the dice tower and think it's definitely good, but I'm loving StarlitCitadel! I love how well spoken you are and how much thought you put into your reviews instead of just yelling "it's awesome it's awesome!" like Tom Vassel lol. I also love how each of you have your particular board game preferences and how you build on that to give varying constructive opinions about a game's mechanics and play ability. Your analysis is very in dept and I appreciate it. :D plus this channel's commentators are pretty dang cute :D
I sincerely hope in your future top 10 reviews you show us a glimpse of the content like you did with some games in previous top 10s, I'm not sure about others but having a glimpse at the design or the contents/characters etc will give me a better idea whether or not I am picking the game up :)
Wow... so glad I watched this and found out about BattleCON. I totally just purchased pretty much everything that goes with the game after reading about it and watching other videos. I can not wait to get the game to the table!
I love love love Eldritch Horror. Surely my favorite game of the year. I can understand the critics which are saying that the game is not so much about horror and despair like Arkham but, I just love the theme anyway and having to deal with everything that is happening is so much fun. The only thing is that so far, we haven't succeeded at playing a game under 5 hours. Maybe we are just overthinking everything, I don't know... And we still read all the text to be sure to feel in the game... No matter what, the game is great anyway and I can't wait to get the new expansions!!
well two games that i really disslike(alchemists, quantum) and two games that i really like(dead of winter, battlecon) are here on list :D nice video anyway and you can feel that K&J really liked games that have some uniqness in them this year.really like this channel now. high hopes for the next season :D K&J have a nice christmas!!!
Just got BattleCon: Devastation of Indines for Xmas. It's becoming my favorite game. I love fighting video games, and this is a great tabletop version of them. And it's one of the most strategic games I've ever played.
Wow, you do amazing and detailed reviews of board games. I would like to see your review of Myth, a cooperative role playing game with dice, cards and miniatures published in 2014 and designed by Brian Shotton and Kenny Sims. :-)
TheZioba Thank you for the comment. I do not believe the game is currently on our list of games to review, but if you'd like more of a say, you can join us a patron on Patreon. For season 4, 1/2 of all reviews are voted on / recommended by the patrons.
i couldn't stop staring at that Alchemists game box. i have issues... I was just a bit disappointed with Quantum. I think it would have benefited from having some asymmetric abilities depending on which race was chosen. Cool top list, thanks Kaja & Joanna!
no chance it would make it more random and unbalanced.if you do asymmetric abilities you need to work at the start from them to make the game more balance out.its a 4x abstract not a lot people like this kind of a concept. But if you like it you will be hooked like Kaja its almost the same point like with Tash Kalar.
BlackmaskGamer they wouldnt have to be game breaking changes. maybe they start with different ship numbers or something. all i know is this game tends to sit on my shelf, more than others. it's not a bad game by any means...
Thanks for another great year,Joanna and Kaja!Love your work... Just one tiny thing - each of you describes "very unique" games... Drives me nuts! I guess I should be less anal!! Merry Christmas to all on the Good Ship SC... X
I feel guilty by watching your awesome videos for free! I know it is expensive to create videos since all your guys got paid from Starlit Citadel to do this. Though how could people support that company? (I am not in Canada so i cant buy games from you)
Thats why Eldritch horror isnt good thematic speaking. Lovecraftian power fantasy makes NO sense. Your choices shouldnt feel like it matters, even if it does. Lovecraftian theme is about despair in front of absolute horror, the unknown. And I dont know what you guys are doing wrong, but my Arkham Horror games (with ppl that actually wanted to play) NEVER went for more than 4h. Even with 5 players.
Thanks for your work. It's difficult to find brief reviews on these complex games and you balance well thought out opinion with no too many technical details, but enough to give flavor of game. Stop saying "nice" please. Wish I could private message this (forgot how on youtube) as I don't mean to sound publicly insulting, rather trying to be informative and helpful. But you both use the word "nice" so much I can hardly listen. From Oxford dictionary, NIce: Origin Middle English (in the sense ‘stupid’): from Old French, from Latin nescius ‘ignorant’, from nescire ‘not know’. Other early senses included ‘coy, reserved’... The word nice, derived from Latin nescius meaning ‘ignorant’, began life in the fourteenth century as a term for ‘foolish’ or ‘silly’. From there it embraced many a negative quality, including wantonness, extravagance, and ostentation, as well as cowardice and sloth. In the Middle Ages it took on the more neutral attributes of shyness and reserve. Exactly the way they wanted their women to be; no opinions, no challenge, etc. Slaves in the South were told the same, be nice and don't let massa know you can read. TPeople say "that was the old meaning, it's changed". Oh, really? Think again. People use it so much to replace almost every meaningful adjective indicating a positive characteristic and lots of adverbs (nicely done), that 'nice' waters itself down to mean basically "I wasn't put to significant discomfort by it". Meanwhile they rob themselves of meaningful experience in life because they lose the concepts of other feelings ("it's a nice evening" leads nowhere, no embracing of the moment, while "it's a sultry, moonlit, solitary evening" communicates much to another and most importantly: gives the memory and association of emotion and senses that form a memorable experience, add to one's life, not get classed with every other non-horrible evening and lose its uniqueness (usually hate that word too)). How can your mom, the day, a car, a scientific theory, a kiss, a puppy, a week with old friends, a job or clouds in the sky all be "nice"? They have little to nothing in common. Except...our being the one to experience them. And if we limit the experience to one word for everything... Such people will look back on their lives and only have "nice". They will have missed the experiences which are heroic, daunting, subdued, enheartening, baffling, peaceful, challenging, jubilant, mirthful, trepidatious, invigorating, etc. And all the people in their lives I guess are naughty or nice, not generous, thoughtful, ambiguous, introspective, caring, kindhearted, propitious, courteous, etc. I've seen and been told the effect it has on people's lives when they refrain from using the word "nice" and it's joyous. Much more thoughtful lives and deeper relationships. Doing this they've also noted being more honest with others and themselves. Unfortunately, I've also seen the same people go into a new setting, say a job, where people say "nice" with absurd frequency and they get intellectually and spiritually lazy if/when they get the word virus.

StarlitCitadel I agree with the comment, my only critique is that it's hard to hear Kaja a lot of the time. Great videos!
really fun to watch all the top 10 lists and such this time of year. mine was hard to narrow further than 20... i don't know how you got to just 6!
Great job, as usual. You guys are up there with SUSD and Marco for my favourite reviewers, every video you do is so pro. Keep up the good work!
You are all amazing over there. I love watching these videos. They always keep my interest. They have great information and you present it well.
Yay for Dragon's Hoard!

StarlitCitadel, do you prefer to play BattleCON Devastation of Indines with or without the Special Action card?
Just got BattleCon: Devastation of Indines for Xmas. It's becoming my favorite game. I love fighting video games, and this is a great tabletop version of them. And it's one of the most strategic games I've ever played.
Love it. Keep the reviews coming!

I didn't see the Alchemists review though. Would love to see how it plays.
We've filmed it, but it's not edited and posted yet -- it will be up before the end of the month, and we'll post a link to it from here then.
Awesome! Can't wait!
I swear I've met Joanna Someplace before, either that or I encountered her doppelganger.

I'm not sure about that shorter hair.
I think it is pretty fresh.
Its a bit androgynous, which I'm just not a big fan of. But she's not my girlfriend, so its all good. :)
Says the guy with a $2 haircut ;)
