    I'm kind of blown away because my thyroid was destroyed before I went on a one meal a day regime. My macros were 20g or less carbs, 50g protein and usually 100g of fat or less. I lost weight on this and my thyroid function increased, but I never gained muscle. I think I need to tweak things. I did this for a year and it was always below 1400 calories, so it shocked me when you said that was low. In fact, I had to try to get to 1000 calories most days.

    Big Trader Joe's fan there. I can just eat the same thing every day and my usual seasonings are salt, pepper, chili flakes, rosemary, oregano and Italian spices. One of the big challenges is cost-efficient protein sources and that's been a huge struggle for a lot of people the past year. What I've seen is one protein source go up so people buy more of another protein source until that goes up. It's kind of like Whack-A-Mole. I've been doing this so that I have a good feel for how to do high-protein but it's taken about six months to get a set of goto high-protein foods which I can then fill out with other foods. And, you're right, it does take planning. I'd say a week or two in advance. Stuff that's in the basement that I can easily grab. Stuff in the freezer that I can make easily. I have a short-order cook which makes things easier but I like to be cost-efficient with ingredients. Costco, Trader Joe's and my local grocery store really help.

    Cori, you could easily have the main role in a woman superhero movie !
    I have an entire cupboard full of seasonings, they really add spice to meals (no pun intended😉). My question is : how do you "get out" of a minicut ? Do you recommend a transition phase, or you just get back to your normal eating habits ?

    • @redefiningstrengthOC
      @redefiningstrengthOC  Год назад +7

      That's a GREAT question and really depends on when and how you are using it. So if I use a mini cut, say before a vacation, I'm doing it partly to balance out the vacation eating (which is going to be whatever your "balance" is but probably more in maintenance range). However, if I'm using it with a client who's been at a weight loss plateau, we may still have them stay in a deficit just relaxing intensity on it. But then we may slowly increase out of it 100-200 calories at a time (so like 100 calories added to their daily intake maintained for a week before changing more).

    • @karinekmk9293
      @karinekmk9293 Год назад

    Another question - i’m thinking this might help my fat loss after months of prioritizing protein and heavy lifting and the belly squish not budging. I currently work out daily and don’t adjust calories. Once or twice a week, I go on 2+ hour bike rides - and not just leisurely rides - it’s a workout. I feel I would need to consume additional calories on those days to avoid feeling like 💩 and giving my body what it needs. How can I adjust calories/macros on those days and not sabotage my progress during mini cut?

    I've always wondered about the dietary fat, for weight-loss do most people recommend low-fat because it's lower in calories or because dietary fat is easier to store as body fat? Some days I eat more fat than carbs but it's because of the fat-soluble vitamins not because I like fat foods like cheese and butter actually I HATE butter but it has vitamin K2 , but if I wanted to lose these last few pounds especially around my stomach is it better if I lower my fat intake and increase my carb intake while protein being the highest macro?

    • @redefiningstrengthOC
      @redefiningstrengthOC  Год назад +4

      Fat is calorically more dense and has a minimal thermic effect. So while key to include for health and balance, it can be good to lower to help you better utilize fat AND have meals that are higher in volume and more filling. And you often need the carbs for readily available energy if you're training hard and in the deficit (so they help spare protein and muscle).

    • @daysoftheboo
      @daysoftheboo Год назад

      @@redefiningstrengthOC oh that makes sense, fat is less thermogenic so the body easily stores dietary fat as body fat yeah I don't want that at all I'm trying to get rid of this belly fat, hhhmm I have noticed some days I don't feel as energetic and athletic those might be the days when I eat more fat,
      Thank you so much for answering my question I'm going to have to figure out my diet, I still want to eat cheese for vitamins K2 , D3 and calcium but I'll lower my cheese intake because in general cheese is high in fat I think I do need some more carbs so I can have more energy hopefully finally lose this last bit of body fat I want to tone up and tighten up 💪🏻

      There is no product endorsement or sponsorship in this video it's just the foods I personally use (aka my authentic self 🤷‍♀️). I'm a strong believer in the 80/20 principle, and while I eat mostly nutrient-dense foods, an occasional diet soda is part of the balance that works for me. After reviewing far too many studies, I feel comfortable in my choices. Often, poison is in the dose, and that can be said for so many things.
