Great news. Hope to see the Patty Jenkins SWS film too. I still think some fans need to lighten up on these movies. Too much Force-fever with little appreciation for the adventure and the lessons.
It’s a minor point, but thank you for your words on Duel of the Fates. I’ve seen way too many people lose their mind over how “good” it would’ve been just because they didn’t like TROS. While it had some cool ideas (that I honestly wish were used in the final film) like the Stormtrooper rebellion on Coruscant, Rey’s arc was a compete thematic antithesis to what SW has always been about. The ending with her and Finn raising their children to use the light and the dark sides… yikes.
I second some of the same sentiments as well, although for slightly different reasons. Even though TROS has issues with elements like pacing or Finn’s “secret” secret (Force sensitivity), I still really liked it a lot and thought it did well as a finale. (I know, “sacrilegious opinion” to some.) I also felt that DOTF had some elements that would’ve been cool to see, like what you noted and more involvement from Poe and Rose, but have way too much other stuff that would be antithetical to the feel of the sequels and George’s ideas on Star Wars. Namely for me, Kylo’s lack of redemption. Ben’s ultimate redemption was something that really made TROS hit well emotionally for me; the idea of him staying a villain up until the end just feels so wrong to me and puts me off completely from wanting to replace TROS with DOTF.
@@HumbleAshe I actually agree with you on TROS. It’s not executed perfectly, but I really like what’s there. Regarding Kylo, it’s actually kind of weird for me. After TLJ, I kinda liked the idea that Ben wouldn’t be redeemed, that Rey gave him his chance and, even without Snoke lording over him, he declined. However, the way Trevorrow was going to execute it was… not good, whereas JJ executed his redemption extremely well. Do I wish we’d seen Coruscant and gotten more of the supporting characters? Yeah. But would I take Duel of the Fates over TROS? Definitely not (I haven’t even touched on other gripes, like the shallow utilization of Mortis or the out-of-place Tor Valum stuff). Also, as a side note, I do really like turning Palpatine into a saga-wide villain. I was opposed to the idea at first (I really wanted a Ben and Rey conflict devoid of legacy characters), but it grew on me a lot.
@@NicBrandonOh yeah, that’s my sentiment too! I have a few blips I’ve noted here and there (I just don’t talk too much on it because stuff has been done to death), but I really love it and have a strong resonance with it. I did actually appreciate Ben/Kylo in TLJ as he was; staying in the dark, still a berserker of a warrior, but still conflicted. And I felt the way JJ wrapped up his arc was really good (in spite of how the Internet rants so much about Ben being dead or, in some cases, wanting him to stay a villain or praising him while dunking on Rey in the process). I actually did enjoy Palpatine as the saga villain in TROS too. I was pretty hyped to hear his voice/return again in the trailer (so in that sense, his “reveal” was technically in an official trailer and *not* Fortnite), so him coming back as a recurring villain pulling all the strings and attempting to rule through either Kylo or Rey worked for me.
People would have sh!t all over it just like TRoS, and then the Fandom would have screamed "They should have gotten Abrams to do the final movie!!" I loathe the SW fandom.
@@smurphftw2008 yep. Internet fandoms suck for pretty much everything at this point. That’s part of why I love Alex and Mollie so much; they engage with the material the way I do: out of genuine love for the series and an interest in the stories that are told. Sure, sometimes things aren’t very good (I didn’t really like Mando S3 very much), but when that happens, oh well, better luck next time. Internet fandoms both thrive on obsessively hating everything while possessing the shortest-term memory possible (only the recent thing that I didn’t like matters in assessing x-franchise, everything else be damned). Edit: you also can’t forget the outrage 99% of the time being directed at some perceived (i.e imaginary) meta, rather than the substance of the actual product itself.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to whether or not the execution of each project is handled by a solid team or not. Currently in both the MCU and Star Wars, the weakest link in the production chain is arguably the writing team, which is why so many of the shows have mediocre stories and this is true not just in the streaming shows but also the movies as well. IMO this is evident even in Filoni’s recent project, Ahsoka. It had so many head-scratching moments like why did the plot feel the need to make Sabine a force-sensitive (which was never alluded to in Rebels) or why Thrawn, for all of his tactical genius, seemed to struggle against the protagonists on Peridia even when he had the advantage in manpower and firepower.
Honestly really great to see Filoni get this big promotion going from the Clone Wars all those years ago to where he is now. Definitely hoping he’ll have a super good run in this new role and that he’s definitely going to help get the new movies going and have them turn out super well (especially the Rey Skywalker movie, as we’ve been in need of actual ST content for sequel fans for years or anything for Rey, at least for me), as well as getting new shows and stories told down the road. (I just hope he can help get that Rey movie really going. It’s been absolute hell being a sequel fan because there’s been nothing for me and everyone basically hates the sequels and people like me for existing, so the Rey movie is the one thing I’ve been unhealthily clinging onto for Star Wars right now.)

Filoni as a creative advisor is great since he did a good job with the Mandalorian show. Maybe he’ll make an animated Star Wars movie instead of a live-action one.
The period is definitely vastly underrated and under-explored. Those years shortly before TFA, within the sequel era, or shortly after TROS are an interesting time of fragmentation and varying factions all vying for power in the vacuum left behind by the crippled New Republic and by the later First/Final Order. To see these former major factions potentially try to rebuild while also potentially going to war with new crime bosses or galactic powers; this is a sandbox for various stories that Filoni could really usher in.

Biggest question: " was there a CCO before Filoni"? It's been very clear that SW has been missing a Feige for years now, so it's good to see Filoni fill that void. I'm not his greatest fan, but it should push SW in a better direction
This makes sense to me and I'm glad for him. Ever since hearing him talk about the Duel of the Fates in the Phantom Menace during the behind the scenes show on Disney+, I've felt like he gets it. He understands what Star Wars is.
Star Wars need to go two ways, either be a platform where people can create their own stories with Star Wars brand or go full Cannon 1 vision to tell it all
Well deserved, I just fear for the feature films. I feel like the Disney shows alienate people that were aged out of The Clone Wars and Rebels. They are way too in the weeds for general moviegoer audiences who loves the movies but didn't watch animated shows
Thats not his job. Thats the stun coordinator and fight directors job as they're the ones who train the actors and stunt doubles. The director then has to direct the fight.
Filonis writing is the epitome of the snake eating its own tail. I hope he doesn't overreach his position and acts as more of a historical reference for Star Wars content.
Well deserved, but I do worry he's now going to be a scapegoat for every 'star wars product made just to have something airing' that does badly. And Ahsoka definitely had a shaky first season too... Still, I think he's a cool guy, so hopefully it all comes together and we get consistently decent to great Star Wars stuff.
I am quite excited by this news. This has been long overdue I think and as somebody who worked with and learned from George Lucas himself, nobody deserves this promotion more than Dave Filoni. I posted a comment on another video describing how I see this news: the scene from Spider-Man 2 when Spider-Man is trying to stop the train. Spider-Man is Dave, the webbing from his right hand is George and his vision for Star Wars, the left hand webbing is the EU and all of its various stories and the train is all of us, the fans, wanting more and more Star Wars. And there’s Dave Filoni pulling from what he learned from George while trying to pull from the EU and fit it in where he can without disregarding the teachings of his Master.
Prior to what he did live action I would have been excited, despite his needless disregard for EU lore, both The Clone Wars & Rebels were pretty great (he could have made same quality of story without changing EU characters like Thrawn or Depa Bilaba, Kanaan arc) but his live action was not good.
I still think the Star Wars IP could use a Visions-style/Elseworlds banner where a writer director can do some more creative stuff without being overly hampered by canon. The setting should be huge, but again and again, it feels limited and has probably pushed off creators interested in doing something different
Star Wars should be doing more out there, creative stuff in the canon. It's a big galaxy and setting your story outside of any of the three wars they could write anything. There's literally no reason there can't be some Earth-like planet in that galaxy, that's not advanced enough to interact with the rest of the galaxy. One of the best books in canon is a version of Romeo and Juliet.
@@nathandts3401 I’d love them to really do stuff in canon, but I think we’ve seen a lot of pushback from people who think something doesn’t “feel” like Star Wars or might deviate from deep lore things

This sounds like good news. I really enjoy the shows that Dave Filoni has worked on. I wonder if "A Counsel of Star Wars" could come about with Dave Filoni, Pablo Hidalgo, and John Favreau on it. Sam Witwer would be a good candidate because he is as much a fan as he is an actor. He also knows the lore.
I've always had a lot of faith in Filoni but he definitely lost some with his choices in Ahsoka. I hate that he made Sabine a Jedi and that he basically retconed the Nightsisters. Before Ahsoka they were a subspecies of Zabrak not some stupid extragalactica race. And it made zero sense for Morgan Elsbeth to be a Nightsister because she is officially listed as human.

Congrats Dave.
Hell yeah!
Good summary, agree with your thoughts about balancing narratives, storytelling within the overarching star wars universe.
When will we get a New Bad Batch ???
I’m happy about it.
Sounds like a win overall to me!
I hope Filoni was not only granted a seat on the council but also bestowed with the rank of master.
CCO is basically the person who controls the green light for creative projects.
Everything is proceeding as we have foreseen.
This makes sense to me and I'm glad for him. Ever since hearing him talk about the Duel of the Fates in the Phantom Menace during the behind the scenes show on Disney+, I've felt like he gets it. He understands what Star Wars is.
Star Wars need to go two ways, either be a platform where people can create their own stories with Star Wars brand or go full Cannon 1 vision to tell it all
Congrats to him.
You know what good for him he worked hard and earned it
Get that bag Dave
Well deserved, I just fear for the feature films. I feel like the Disney shows alienate people that were aged out of The Clone Wars and Rebels. They are way too in the weeds for general moviegoer audiences who loves the movies but didn't watch animated shows
Positive news!!😊
A suprise to be sure, but a welcome one
I used to pray for times like this
Great 😊
If Dave can get the live action saber Choreography right, then I’m impressed
Thats not his job. Thats the stun coordinator and fight directors job as they're the ones who train the actors and stunt doubles. The director then has to direct the fight.
Somebody needs to photoshop Filonis head on top of Loki at the end of S2.
Hw was never afraid to admit he treats and thinks about star wars like George Lucas and thats exacly why he will be very polarising for ppl.
Filonis writing is the epitome of the snake eating its own tail. I hope he doesn't overreach his position and acts as more of a historical reference for Star Wars content.

Best news of the entire year
Hell yeah
….im happy with this.
Sounds amazing
Will there be country music in Episode X?
Woohoo!
And the people bitching about The Mandalorian and Ahsoka are still somehow claiming this will "save" Star Wars.
PERFECT
Congratulations to him, i wonder what he will do after the his new star wars movie comes out? eventually.
Hey do you have discord?

Yay! Good news!!
I'm thrilled for Dave... and I think it'll be good for him and us. 🌄
I expect to see wonderful things coming out of Lucasfilm
He will be a Blue Sky thinker - excellent, his input is needed badly.
Prior to what he did live action I would have been excited, despite his needless disregard for EU lore, both The Clone Wars & Rebels were pretty great (he could have made same quality of story without changing EU characters like Thrawn or Depa Bilaba, Kanaan arc) but his live action was not good.
LETS GOOOO
Good news. They needed a guiding voice and hes the proven, natural choice.
GOOD
Really great, wish they did it sooner though
This seems like a toxic free SW channel! Love it!
It is! It’s why I stick around here so much. 😅
@@cartersminis fr
@@cartersminisSame here for me. This is the only channel I actually frequently check because it’s the only one that’s actually positive about Star Wars compared to 99.999% of fans.
Thor Skywalker is also a friendly, balanced channel.
Toxic=not consuming everything Disney poops out and is able to form a different opinion other than, tHiS iS aMaZiNG
That's according to you guys though.
I pray you’re right
Suprised he was not promoted sooner to be honest.
So happy for Filoni! Nerd to executive creative director!
Good.
Promoting Filoni is felony
I've always had a lot of faith in Filoni but he definitely lost some with his choices in Ahsoka. I hate that he made Sabine a Jedi and that he basically retconed the Nightsisters. Before Ahsoka they were a subspecies of Zabrak not some stupid extragalactica race. And it made zero sense for Morgan Elsbeth to be a Nightsister because she is officially listed as human.
The nightsisters where never a subspecies of Zabrak they did use them as breeding stock tho.
Great news for us fans & the man who understands. The force is strong with Filoni
There doesn't exist a more deserving spiritual successor to George Lucas than Dave Filoni. He's paid all his dues and then some.
