BACKGROUND
Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism is vibrant today largely due to the efforts of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, the great philosopher saint, who lived over 1200 years ago. In his brief life of 32 years, he restored the pristine glory of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy of the Upanishads and re-established the path through which everyone can experience and become one with divinity.
Seldom in history has one individual had so much influence on a nation, its civilization, and its religion.
While his achievements are eternal and unforgettable, his birthplace was forgotten by society for many centuries. In this film, we describe how his birthplace Kalady was rediscovered by the 33rd Jagadguru of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. We will take you on a visual journey of Kalady from the time of Sri Shankara's parents, his birth, and the miraculous events of his childhood. The film also chronicles the contemporary history of Kalady, including the various landmarks and temples associated with his life. There are fascinating interviews with ordinary people, former rulers, and spiritual leaders who are all influenced by this great philosopher. Through beautiful and heart-stopping images of nature, people, and temples, this film provides an unforgettable experience of what Sri Shankara's life may have been like, and how he touched the lives of the Kalady's residents over the centuries.
Speaking in lucid Sanskrit, Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji enlightens us about the life of Sri Shankaracharya and the 33rd Jagadguru of Sringeri who rediscovered Kalady. The 33rd Jagadguru instituted the now internationally observed Shankara Jayanti celebrations and was the inspiration behind the first-ever publication of the complete works of Sri Shankaracharya.
This documentary film is dedicated to the 33rd Jagadguru of Sringeri. It is solely due to his untiring efforts that the glory of Kalady and its special place in the legacy of Sri Shankaracharya has been preserved for the world.

Jagadguru Adi Shankara's accomplishment is amazing and remarkable at such a young age. So proud of my Home land. Both Sri Shankara’s Ashram and the Sree Krishna Temple and my Iringole Devi’s Temple are in the back of my mind, always.I was born in a place called Koovappady 5 miles away from Kalady and I was brought up in Iringole, which is also 5-6 miles away from, Sree Shankhara’s Birth place.pranamam.
I visited the palace few year unaware of its significance. Now I came to understand its significance and planning to visit once again.

No exageration to say that our Vedic culture and hoary tradition are preserved to this day only because of the Sankara Peethams., and all the Hindus of the world with diferent Vedantic traditions are reconciled and united under one umberella.
My pranams to Sringeri JagadGuru and the administrators for bringing this video out. This should clarify without any doubt regarding birth place of Adi Shankaracharya. This is Kali-yuga and some (not connected to Sringeri) are trying hard to re-write history and take a piece of the pie and make their "own" history by spreading false information. They mix up Gregorian calendar and Hindu Panchang also at times and come up with all kinds of marketing non-sense. Thanks to Sringeri Sharadha Peeta -we still have the tradition and sampradaya and authentic information. Kalady/Kalati where Purna river is situated is the right Kalady and no other place is correct.

I feel so blessed having had the privileged experience of living close to the Shankara temple in Kalady. . The atmosphere around and within held the period of the essence that Adi Shankara contained within himself. This extraordinary soul gave his feet to this land in all directions along with the power to unite the people who at time were drowned in the utter darkness of ignorance fighting to prove hierarchy of Inner Knowledge..which became the call for Shankara to use his birth and calling in the most spectacular journey and highest experience to be understood about what real spiritual intent is all about. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Informative and spiriually enlightening talk by the swami. Although Sankaracharya was borne in a place called Kalady, his thoughts on the advaitic interpretation of the vedas (upanishad portions), further condensed in the Bhagavad-gita, have inspired generations through the centuries since he formulated his view of the supreme from a spiritually very valuable standpoint. The advaita vedanta explained in his works is indeed lucid and crystal clear with analogies to drive home subtle points.
