For those wondering why GTA V heists took extended preparation and this one didn't, keep in mind that the McRearys were the ones who planned this heist and Niko was simply a hired gun. Much like Packie in V.
Niko bellic is a hitman he is being hired by numerous rich gang leaders to kill their rivals most of niko bellic missions are all about being a hired contract killer since niko bellic is a school dropout due to his poor status and war in his country he spends his entire childhood in war he grew in a harsh life conditioned society and he can't have a decent job due to lacking of diploma which you can only get from school since he cannot study due to financial problems he resorts to crime to obtain money to support himself and roman
Niko bellic is a contract killer for most of his missions in liberty city while living in USA

Like in MW Remastered, in a mission you can kill Yuri, and if you do that, it gives you Mission Failed for Friendly Fire.
Doing this would have saved Niko some time and stress in the near future.

The name “Three Leaf Clover” actually has a dual meaning.
Obviously the robbery started with four, and one died. The original four represented the luck associated with four leaved clover. One being killed immediately sealed the unluckiness of the robbery, hence three leaved clover representing unluck.
I always assumed this was called four leaf clover, actually a really cool detail

Probably the best mission in GTA history. Absolute masterpiece. I love how they pay homage to Heat.

Honestly, I do enjoy both games but like you said GTA IV felt more realistic because I was playing a character that was trying to make a life for himself in a foreign country.
With GTA V every character already lived in America and was either trying to get money or fix their family issues, idk maybe Niko's story just hit me more on a personal level but that's just my thinking of it.

Looking back, this seems like it was a big step for Rockstar and their mission/game design. This mission really laid the groundwork for the overall theme of 5 and subsequently Online mode, with new heist like missions still being added in 2021.

I think GTA IV's story deserves a little more appretiation.
I like the connection they make between Niko's family and Packie's. Niko is all the time trying to get money just to take care of his family and loved ones, and through all the game he's just trying to break out of the criminal life to keep them safe. On the other hand you have Packie and his brothers who steal and kill for a living without caring about their safety. Later on in the game Packie's brothers will end up dead or with a life sentence. Also, in the end you have two options: the money or vengeance. If you choose money Roman will die meaning that you decided to take the money instead of killing those that are a threat to your family. But if you choose vengeance Kate will wind up dead and Packie will have finally lost all of his family (well, except for his mother) and later on when he calls you he will be completely drunk and miserable because even if he has cash he finally lost it all when you will still have all of your family. This is actually a recurrent theme in the game, so the moral would be that you should always put those that you love before anything else because life would be shit otherwise
Another interesting detail is that before the final mission both Kate and Roman will call you to choose the mission that will get them killed respectively. So no matter what ending you choose, you will always have chosen the one that the character that lived didn't want you to choose and will end up resenting you. This could mean that sometimes you will have to go as far as doing wrong things for the right reason but you will always end up losing something. You could be a hero but noone would ever know. So, what is better? To live an empty life where everyone loves you or to do the right thing even if it means people might think you're a douche?
I, however, think that last thing is really unlikely and it was just Rockstar fucking with us. But it still makes you think...

Packie screaming "Saint fucking Michael!" Followed by the explosion was so cinematic. So intense.
Also I love how ahead of its time this game was with physics and AI. At 9:40 the cops immediately break cover to try to dodge the grenade Niko throws. Little details like this make the game so immersive and make you feel like you're really in Liberty City as Niko.

I agree. This one was exciting and fun and LONG. It took me several times to play it because i kept dying.
You have to prepare properly for the mission, that means having at least an assault riffle and grenades on you. You need to take cover and move slowly.

GTA IV is much more PC and censored, no torture, no gore, no rape or attempted rape, no street criminal scam tactics, no nudity (seriously you can't even go to a strip club and see naked tits) and more.

It's kind of ironic how the title of this mission is "Three Leaf Clover" and all three of Niko's accomplices can potentially die: St. Michael dies in this mission, Derrick dies eventually, and players have the choice to kill Packie during a random encounter in GTA V.

I still come back to listen to Packie and Michael argue in this scene sometimes, that dialogue between them two is one of the best moments in the series!
I think it was Packie and Derrick that were arguing, so that NPC killed Michael under their nose.

I absolutely love when Rockstar pays homage like this. The Heat shootout is one of the greatest scenes in cinema history. Its no coincidence that the mission inspired by it is the most epic GTA mission ever.

+Son Goku A lot of things in the GTA universe "would never happen" and are "cartoony" as fuck. Like the fact the protagonists are basically one man armies and that they can constantly commit crimes (like stealing random people's cars at a whim) and never have the police banging down their doors. That's not really good reasoning.
GTAV is more realistic in its bank heists actually since most of the time they do them in a such a way to hide their identities and get the money out as quietly and quickly as possible.

I like to imagine 2008, Michael De Santa sitting at his home in Los Santos, watching this on TV thinking 'could have been me'.
My all time favorite GTA mission. It was an obvious nod to the bank heist and famous street shootout scene in the film 'HEAT" which is a favorite film of mine, so the idea of getting to relive that in a GTA game was an amazing experience. I remember after I completed the mission wanting to replay it, and also thinking that there's no way any other mission will top that, and none did afterwards. Quite difficult at times, but so fun.

Three leaf clover is the mission that inspired GTA 5 to create all those heist missions. One of the best mission especially when Packie says "SHIT MICHEAL SAINT FUCKING MICHEAL"
There's also the casino heist in gta sa. I'd say the ones in 5 are more related to that heist than this one.

Tip - if you actually pay attention to the setup for the cops with the ud Heist it's super easy they don't even make the last Heist difficult
