For anybody wondering why he’s doing this, one reason is that if you use parchment paper and iron you can mess up your boards. It can warp very easily if you do it loads and loads of times
Exactly this!
oh, I thought it was because he didnt want the bead painting thing to be mirror image
I think i remember at my daycare, some of the perler bead boards were warped and unusable. The pegs were too short or it was warped. Could have been from this since we used the parchment paper method.
@@autumn8987 yea that happened to my boards when I just used parchment paper so I had to start using the tape method.
Parchment paper is fine for kids that will maybe make a handful of things and then forget about the boards, but not great for long term repetitive use like in a daycare or with people who do it as a hobby
I learned that the hard way
Tape
Then get something heavy to weigh it down while ironing to keep the edges from curling. Let cool completely with the heavy items on it before removing
yeah
Hama pearls (which I guess is the brand name of these here in Germany?) were real popular when I was a kid in the 90's. No one ever taught us you were supposed to tape them and my mom hated ironing these because well, she had to do it on the plates, oh and probably because my lil sis got one of those pearls stuck in her nose when she was like 3 or something 😅 Taping and using one of those handy heated press thingies would have really really upped my Hama Pearl game 😁
lol yeah its definitely helpful for how i like to make them. You dont have to do them this way, I just dont like it when the beads melt and the holes are all different sizes. No one ever told me to melt them closed i just started to.
@@beadamonpixels I think they definitely look better without the holes, that pixilated art styles isn't as popular as it is right now for nothing 😁 Especially with the game boy colour gen of gamers 🥰 I wouldn't be too surprised, if melting those artworks into solid plates would make them more durable 😊 I definitely had a good bunch of my artwork broken when I was a kid. Would not have happened with a solid plate, I'm sure ❣️
We call them Hama beads in Australia.
@@KitinelliSane here in Scotland
Hama is just a different brand name. The non-brand name is fuse beads.@@Kitinelli
oh... we used to just cover it with baking paper and iron it directly...
Same !! Lol
Me too
yeah same
Yeah!
Sometimes they need to move it off of the plastic grid, without melting it together
Now I know what to do if I ever get into this saving video for later!
Awesome! Its a super fun hobby. If you have any questions feel free to comment them.
That Haunter is SICK, man! Keep it up!
Always forget how cool original sprite haunter was man.
i agree.
When I was little we got some baking papar or idk jow they call it, put it on the "art" ironed it and it came off from the papaer easely and the papaer was also reuseable and it didnt needed the paaper as a abacl becouse of the iron it was melted together
Yeah I think that’s how a lot of people started out
I have so many perler designs around my room. My favorite hobby. 🥰
holy shit?? this perler is so sick dude!
Thank you!
I always hold both ends really tight and fold the tips enough to hold so the tape doesn't stick to my fingers or the table. Then i firmly press one end of the tape down with the other end sticking up. I take the hand that put one end down on the beads and I move it along the tape, lowering it and pressing it to the beads until i can place the other end. That way every section is carefully placed and no beads get out of place. It really helps with the large projects
That’s a good plan. I usually go pretty slow when I’m putting the tape down just to be safe. Frustrating if you accidentally drop one side and it lands on the beads lol.
I grew up with perler beads. This makes me want to take them out of the basement and use em
Do it!
Thanks for showing your tips and tricks. This is something I've looked at to see if my grandson was interested in doing this. You see the cheesy little things until I came across your channel and think he would absolutely love making things like this.
It’s a very fun hobby. I highly support people trying it out! You can buy small kits to test it out too
That Haunter is legit! My favorite pokemon and you made him look awesome!
The background music be giving me hard nostalgia
This is so helpful! All the times i've tried using tape resulted in DISASTER! I'LL give this a try next time I perler!
i'm glad it was! If you have any questions feel free to ask.
These are so awesome, im definitely interested in trying some on my own 😊
This does help ty!
I saw another RUclipsr do this kind of stuff before. And he pokes holes in the tape for each one of the little Perler bead things. And he said it helps it fill in better on the back side. So there's not as many holes as you would have if you didn't puncture through the tape.
I never even used to put anything over top.. just direct iron on the beads for a second while still on the pegs. Never melted or warped the board lol
I just put a piece of parchment paper then iron it
Yea that’s what comes with the board kits, I’ve used these for years and I’ve never heard of taping them but I could see how it might be useful
I do both. Use the tape to get it off the board and the paper to iron. Peel tape put on other side and repeat.
The office theme in the background.
this is so old, haven't done stuff like this for years

I honestly don’t do this, because it can mess up the shaping a bit, but if it works better for you, you do you.
Whats the shaping? I've never heard that term
@@beadamonpixels it means how the Perler beads are layer out
@@beadamonpixels Laid*
You can get very wide masking tape. I get mine from sign warehouse. It’s pretty affordable compared to what your doing.
I use 3 inch now. Is there larger?
@@beadamonpixels yes, you can in a variety of lengths. The widest I have is 24inches. But I also have 5 and 8.
"Don't worry about wasting tape" I don't think that's something they control 😭
I get this video after MY BOARD HAS MELTED? BRRUUH 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I don't think this method is that useful since, once you iron it, it could change the propper form when pressing on it and the result is not that perfect
Maybe not for most but it is for how i make perlers. To get the fully melted side and unmelted side you need to do a bit of extra work to make sure you dont melt the boards. Also i dont melt them totally flat, just enough to close the holes.
I feel insane for never having used the tape method, I’ve had a couple devastating accidents
Give it a shot it’s worth it
What boxes do you use to store your beads? The ones in the video look really great
I want that Haunter¡!¡!
What do you do with pearlers? At least ones that big, is it like just something you frame as wall art? Or is there something else you could do with a pearler that big? Cause I like the art, I just don't know what you do with something like that after you bring it into existence.
All art. I have been covering all the walls in my garage with them. Well the ones that havent sold go on the wall lol
The W Office Theme
Im not skilled at anything really, but id really like to start making these. Would you say its really difficult?
No not necessarily but it can be very time consuming. Start small and work your way up
@@beadamonpixels are there any techniques that you would say are helpful?
I used to do these a few years ago. I second not difficult and time consuming. For your first project, start small! I used to download sprites from games that were sized by pixel and open in an app that would let me zoom in and measure how many pixels long something was with a dragging tool (preview on my mac).
For your first one, I’d recommend something smaller than 20*20 pixels if you can (the sheets I used that click together were each 29*29 pixels). Pokemon box sprites from gen 4-gen 6 are generally 25*25 to 35*35 if you’d like to start there.
If you like any other pixel art game, you can generally search something like “kirby superstar ultra sprites” or “zelda 2 sprites” and find really anything you like! If you want to make your own design, I’d recommend using a pixel art app (or graph paper if you’d prefer doing stuff by hand) to make a draft before beading!!!
@@kirbylover5418 Oh, Thank you for that. Ill make Sure to try it out :D
With clear plates, you can also put a print out of it under the plates. Some people like to work that way. Others don’t because it might not always translate to which bead you have to use or which color if the picture has more colors
how do you actually cut the tape? do you lift it off the boards and take scissors and cut? or do you have really small scissors? or do you use like an exacto knife?
do you poke the holes in the tape before you flip it? Or do you have to do that after it comes off the peg boards?
Dont forget to poke holes in the tape over every bead. Otherwise you could end up with steam inside the bead and have a blowout
Yes!
I will be patiently waiting for a beautiful goodra/goodra line until the perler gods hear my plea ❤
My mum always ironed one side on the tray with greaseproof paper and then flipped it out to do the other
oh thats why its so hard to put hama beads on the templates anymore because there melted i did not know that your supposed to use tape i only used parchment paper
What kind of tape do u use?
Am I the only one here who has never heard them be called perler beads? I grew up in Canada and we used to call these fuse beads
Hi! What kind of tape do you use? Mine (masking tape) isn’t working that well..
In other videos why do you poke holes in the tape before flipping?
And do you iron with the pegboard under ?
You cut the extra tape before you iron it?
Don’t wanna be rude but can’t you just use like wax paper I’ve always used that
Not rude at all. You dont want to use wax paper because it is Moisture resistant. Not Heat resistant like the parchment paper i use. The wax paper melts, leaves traces on your perlers, disrupts heat flow, and can catch fire.
Why can’t you use the parchment paper on top and iron it a bit so the beads stick together and then pull it all off and continue to iron it off the pegs?
I don’t like the inconsistency that brings to the perler. For me I prefer having one side totally melted for a bead style look and the other side fully melted for a squared pixilated book. Partially melting one side and melting the other side makes all the beads close at different degrees. I tend to focus on those things so I do it this way.
I know you made a video on your bead storage what are they called?
which size of Perler did u used 5mm? midi or mini?
What do you use to cut the tape easier
Thought we would see him punch each hole through the tape.
Is this Drawn to Life music? (If not, it sounds just like it)
"To get the beats duck to all the tape."
I wonder how that happened to the subtitles...
Is it just me or is there one bead thing out of place near the lower left of it's right hand
Are you mixing bead brands and do you poke holes in the tape for your projects.
If I commented right now I would be the 50th commenter
Perfect 🤩
Where do you get this 4 inch wide tape
when i do this the back of it gets super sticky is it the tape thats the problem or is there a way to idk make it not sticky 😭
Does this work with clear tape?
Why can’t you melt it with the thig under it?
Do a digimon!
ooo i like that. Which one?
@@beadamonpixels I was having a hard time picking one, there are so many cool and cute digimon! So I just picked a random card out of my collection and it was Garurumon! Also I’m so amazed that you saw and responded to my comment! I recently started making Perler beads (though I use mini ones) and your videos are so helpful and inspiring! I love your work!
Why don't you just iron them?
Because i want the highest quality
love the advice but what do i do if most of my boards are warped?
Usually that means you have to buy new boards.
i used to *hover* the iron over the back side of the boards to warp them in the opposite direction. just slightly enough to make it even enough to use again + weight it down. the tape method is still better but if you want to use boards you already have longer until they get ruined, there u go
@@LucillePalmeralright then, thank you!!
why do you tape it and not just Iron it directly?
I have a few videos showing what happens but basically the heat from irons/heat presses passes through the beads and melts the boards. Then once the boards are warped, it makes the next perlers warped also because they are uneven.
I use wax paper and this heating thing
What about the hole poking?
I have a tutorial! ruclips.net/video/z0jY1gf8lLM/видео.html
What tape do you use?
Was that an office remix as the music
yeah it was lol
@@beadamonpixels haha 🤌👌
ive mader over 70 pearlers beads and not once have i used tape lmao
i just iron it with a sheet over it while its still in the base
yours also dont look like mine.
Type of tape
i messed up the tape on my milotic's tail and it was a nightmare to attempt to fix T_T
Invest in a rolling pin
Someone tell me if he has done a garchomp one 💀
Why do u tape it just iron it on the thing…
Because ironing the beads on the boards will melt the board also. I like my perlers totally flat.
What is the point of the tape being there?
The tape allows me to pull the whole perler off the pegboard to melt the beads. Melting the beads on the boards will melt the board also.
Dont worry about wasting tape. Bruh you gone buy more for me? 😂
Why don’t you just cover it with baking paper and iron it
I do that but I do more work to make them higher quality
Ummm, that's not an original sound 😂 that os the theme song fro. The office, be it fractionally messed around with.
Do bannett pokemon please
Why was the theme song for the office in the background? Not complaining, just a little confused
once it’s taped, hold both sides and flip the plate over
It's not 1 plate its multiples that will fall apart if you try it.
@@beadamonpixels no shit sherlock. i’ve done this with multiple plates before and haven’t had a problem yet. sounds like a skill issue on your part

Awesome videos but i will not subscribe because you asked! Mwahahaha :u
Or just use wax paper.
You can if you want the paper melt and not look as good lol
@@beadamonpixels Maybe Perler beads have changed since I was a kid, but I always used wax paper, and never had an issue. Maybe I used a higher-quality brand of wax paper than you tried?
