Her top coat didn't remove her paint at all. If you go back to the point in the video after she finishes up the blend, she intentionally went back and listed more water on the entire front of the door and used her dry blending brush to pull back some of her blend to expose that Deadly Nightshade. After that she sanded with a very fine grit sanding pad which further exposed the blue and some of the wood. You don't have to do either of these steps, you can simply let your blend dry (overnight is best) and seal and it would keep your Initial blend and just richen your colors.

I kept it blue with a little of the green blended on the edges to all tie it in :)
