Punishment and reprimanding are one thing. Teachers need to know how to keep control of a classroom and learn how to deal with troublesome students without violence or loosing your temper. If a teacher hits a child they belong in handcuffs.
People just don't have strict aunties just like me. True it is a shame kids are brats. This is because there are laws about disciplining your kids as parents. No slapping or hitting. Teachers are in a hard spot because their job is to educate. Yet, kids know no respect because their parents don't teach them at a young age. It is easy for me because I disciplined my nieces and nephews at a young age. For my nephews, it was grounding them of video games. My nieces, it is grounding them off iPads. God blesses me for not being a parent.
For me it's not about disrespect but if a teacher can't control themselves enough to not use violence against minors you lose my respect right there, I don't think the kid was innocent here but that teacher probably shouldn't be a teacher if she can't handle a student being rude.
I agree that you should respect and listen to the teacher, but once a teacher insults you or lays their hand on you, there is no more respect. You hit me I hit you.
just came from school intervention for my younger brother and let me tell you sometime you gotta punch a disrespectful student in the mouth. not that i condone hitting kids, but how else are they going to learn. yelling and lecturing doesn't do any good.
I taught middle school in south China, and those kids were not well behaved. This is as an 'elite' school as well. Would never hit a student, but I had to pick up a student's desk with a student in it because he completely refused to leave and to allow the class to continue. I taught in inner cities, so I know the tactics to deal with this and I definitely needed them there. You also cannot threaten to do anything to a student that isn't an actual consequence and teachers should never escalate a conflict.
I find this sooooo sad! I bet the new generation of students are neglected by their parents who are most likely busy working to teach them anything. Due to the one child policy, children are treated like princesses and princes that they have no respect for anyone. I find that very very sad as traditional Chinese society emphasized discipline, respect, courtesy, etc.... which seems to all be gone now as money seems to take over everything. Very depressing indeed.
As a teacher, you never lay hands on the students. You DO NOT touch the student, you are the adult, you keep yourself composed. But I have to say, what a brat, I would have gotten some sort of back up.
Christianplay1way it is China afterall. different way of doing things. I agree though, teachers do NOT hit students. keep calm and carry on because kids will be kids. hormones, attitude, lack of parenting who knows.
If a teacher slapped me with a good amount of force I would just straight out punch them, no warning of what comes their way only a sudden movement. Truthfully I wouldn't even care if they are a male, female or if they are old or young I would just say that it was self defence.
when the teach gets violent its not about teacher & student its about person violating other persons rights or even adult violating minor. Also the kids now are not 'spoilt' they are aware & educated about their own rights and know when an authority figure is doing something wrong than thinking they can do anything, if anything the kids are smarter & braver. If the girl was my child I would be proud of her.
Bahama Girl because in China, it is uncommon for students to hit their teacher or become physically violent with them. Teachers are highly regarded in Chinese culture. That's why they're amazed.
Bahama Girl Didn't you watched that video? In chinese culture a teacher are regarded as a parents. To hit a teacher are the same as hitting parents. Back then it was really hard to find teachers, parents literally begs teacher to teach their offsprings. You don't disrespect them. But of course...back then teachers are also very respectful and honourable.
Chui sin Yes I did watch the video but I thought no matter where you are in the world respect should be mutually given between a teacher and student... even parents has to respect their kids to a certain point.
Bahama Girl But too bad in this world now childrens are getting more and more disrespectful than how it was back then. I am not sure if you have met one but i have seen kids hitting and scolding their own parents. I am sorry but i totally believe that they do that because the parents allowed them to do so. What happened in this video to me seems like parental fault. Respect are something you learn at home.
Part of me has no sympathy for the teacher - if you lay hands on another human being, they're justified in responding in kind. I don't care if you're Queen Elizabeth II. But I also understand the situation with fuerdai - I teach many, and some certainly fit Mike's description of being "spoiled" (to put it mildly). Still, there needs to be non-physical recourse for teachers who run into this kind of thing.
Its not just you guys. I'm only 19 and some of the things I've seen kids and former classmates of mine, from back in high school, do in class or a public setting is so bad. There are so many times when I see that kind of stuff that I think about how my mother would have never let me or my sister get away with that. I get so pissed when I see kids disrespecting their parents or teachers, because to me the only way that is warranted is if they have done something that absolutely proves that they do not deserve any respect and even then you should still at least try to act civil.
I think the teacher deserves it. She got taught a lesson by her student! Try and hit me, I'll hit you back (right now, back then I would never dare). I didn't pay my tuition fee for her to hit me. She shouldn't slap her student. A teacher that slap or hit their student, he/she lost my respect.
I think honestly I would probably slap my teacher back, just out of reflex or shock. But on the same note I have seen the extreme social change of children and authority figures. Honestly, I don't know why more kids or teachers aren't being slapped. Kids these days don't know how to take constructive criticism or even basic discipline in school. Seems like the majority are ready for a fight no matter what, very Disturbing. I'm all for question authority, but we seriously need to look at why everybody is so angry these days.
Yeah, there's a lot of kids nowadays that are really disrespectful and they get away with a lot. Every since people started looking at disciplining children as abuse, some kids really started taking advantage of that. Now, you can't do anything but take away privileges for awhile, put em in time out, spank as a last resort, but I'm not even sure if that's okay anymore... IDK? Times have changed. As a parent you can do your best to enforce rules and hope that your kids will abide by them, but if they don't like it, and are feeling like they can live life without there parents guidance; they can divorce their own family! It's understandable the teacher should never hit a child just because she's angry. But, the child should learn to be more respectful towards herself and others as well.
in Canada, if a teacher hit a student, they're getting their ass thrown in jail and will lose their license immediately, and the schoolboard may get sued. If a student hits back, it wouldn't be disrespectful, but more of self defence. it's not because the children are spoiled. but because in society, an adult should never hit someone, let alone a child.
I've seen stuff like this several times when i was 5 and 6 back in 2007-2008(im currently 15). A kid who rode the bus named William who was at the time my current age fought my School bus teacher several times verbally and physically. Im not sure if he got expelled but he definitely hated that school bus driver.
No, Mike, you don't sound like an 80 year old. My father teaches literature at a Catholic high school and I started noticing the major differences between the kids that were current students and the students in my class a long time ago. Pardon my language, but the girls, even in dress code, were dressed like sluts. Kids today are spoiled and coddled by their parents and have very little respect for their teachers. If anyone deserves respect, it's Catholic school teachers, because they are paid far less than public school teachers. My father is well respected because he's been at that school for over 40 years and one of the best, but also because the kids are terrified of him (he rarely smiles). I don't think any kid would have the stones to raise a hand to him.
I've seen some kids do some crazy really disrespectful shit here in Ohio. Makes me so sad. I've heard of students hitting teachers too, especially younger kids who are very hyperactive
Mike, love this story about teachers and students. I've had the same experience as you did, that is, being beaten up by teachers and then having my parents side with them. One day, I came home with a bruised and swollen ear. I couldn't see it myself because I didn't have a mirror. My parents however, were shocked. They suspected it had something to do with the teacher but I denied it vehemently, thinking that I will get into more trouble. Truth is... parents want to know if teachers have gone overboard. That particular teacher pulled, pinched, and slapped me so hard that my entire ear was bleeding, bruised, and swollen (teachers like to pinch student's ears for some reason?) I couldn't touch it for a week! Should children fight back? why, yes! I wished I'd fought back but like you, I was petrified! There is a line that teachers shouldn't cross, and that is, they shouldn't hit students. This is what I firmly believe in based on scientific studies and anecdotal experience. Children mirror what their teachers do the way they mirror their parents. That is, if the teacher lashes out, the student would feel is it 'ok' to do the same. There will be times when students are out of control, and teachers should feel able to leave the classroom if they felt their safety was in jeopardy. But to hit a student to regain control is like fighting fire with fire, it never works. No matter how tempting it is to hit a child, a teacher must maintain professionalism and withhold themselves. Yes, children are brats these days, but that isn't their fault. One of the central themes around these issues is like you said, "respect". The older generation keeps saying the younger generation has 'no respect' for the older generation. I think this is an interesting phenomena since everybody has a different idea of what 'respect' means. To my teachers/parents, respecting them means being obedient and doing whatever they want me to do. To us, it looks like 'respect', to an outsider, that looks like oppression and slavery. So I guess the moral of the story is, don't be too quick to judge if a person 'lacks respect'. After all, defending oneself from assault, even from a teacher, is the ultimate display of respect towards oneself.
Often, it's not the parents who allow the kids to act in such a way, but the children turn that way because their parents are too restrictive. At least that's what I've concluded over the years
My parents gave the teachers permission to punish me. So, as a dumb student in class i got punished all the time and there's this one time in a week where i had to visit the principal's office and she would beat me or slap because of my inability to learn and remember.
Honestly, if a teacher hit me, I wouldn't hit back. You don't hit another person, period. Even if the person initiated it, you don't stoop down to their level of immaturity. That girl was literally asking for it, she should have just put her big girl pants on and taken the hit like the "woman" she thought she was.
Honestly… It's sad but something has to be done. I think kids act this way nowadays, because they know child abuse is illegal, they know they can get the parents arrested, he'll they can even sue their parents. So they have the mentality, well I'll do what I want because they can't really do anything to me. And it's gotten to the point where I think that they need to do something like, make slapping kids in the face (over a certain age) legal. Most people don't realize what the hell happens especially in schools. The funny part is when it's someone you need to be super positive to your children and I never yell at them, I never discipline them, I never hit them because they have a well behaved child. Give them a child who is 10 years old, steals their money from them, steals their jewelry to sell (I have heard of kids that have done this) Who was told to wash the dishes, so they spit in them and then walk away… I promise you they will change their mind. I have three friends that are teachers. One of them is a fourth-grade teacher Who has a student who has been brought home by the police for shoplifting three times. They have students who are 8 yrs old steal things from their classrooms and stuff them in their pants. Then when the teacher says something about it, they simply say "nothings there and you can touch me". There are kids who are 13 years old having sex in middle school bathroom. I Think it's mostly because of the fact that kids now know nothing would happen. Back in the Catholic school days 30 years the teacher would smash your face against the chalkboard of you acted like that. Those kids turned out completely fine. As a matter fact better than the kids these days are tonight… Much better And I don't agree with the "kids only act this way because their parents allow them to be this way" because it's absolutely not true. one person I know has a son who steals constantly. Whether it's money or jewelry, toys, cooking utensils, he has been in a fight every week for this entire school year. He had a letter from the teacher every single day for the first 45 days of school. Now averaging a letter once every two weeks or so.... she spends more money on psychologists, and, charts than anyone I know. She has tried everything from medication, to counseling, awards, to grounding. Nothing has helped. As a matter of fact he's worse. Oh and he's only 8
Unlike most of the people here, I believe it's both parties faults. Yeah, the teacher should've held her composure and dealt with it in a more professional manner, but at the same time, a student shouldn't be driving a teacher to go to this point; you're at school to learn, not to talk back. Not to mention, she was basically asking for it. And, as another commenter has stated, it takes 2 people to be in a fight, not just one. On a side note, I agree with the lack of respect thing; when I was a child, everyone in my classes respected the teachers and faculty. You could hear a small child cough on the other side of the gymnasium at pep rallies. Nowadays, when we gather for a speaker or a pep rally, students blatantly talk over the faculty, go on their phones, and be straight up disrespectful. Of course not ALL of the current generation is like that; I know MANY people that are respectful. But the MAJORITY of young individuals lack common curtesy for others in blatant situations where it's completely evident it's called for. Or that's just my experience on the current upcoming generation. This can, of course, vary for others.
LOL, when I was 4 in Hong Kong, teach made me stand the corner for talking.... she threaten me by saying she'll force feed me gummy candies that would make me mute, I told her I will take the orange color one.... she never used that trick again.
Generation Millinieals & Generation Z are totally different ,they have realised the Best Teacher like Confucius , Aristotle & Chanakya don't punish physically ( no slapping , beating , no hitting with sticks or dusters) .These teachers win them over by their reasoning & oratory skills . Teacher category from low to highest (1) Abusive physical & oral for no reason (2) Abusive only oral (3) Threaten students (4) Send to principal office / write note to parent / guardian (5) Reason with them (6) Punishment changed to better the student in exam eg I will not do this kind of stuff 50 times to writing a whole lesson / doing maths problem twice .(7) Nurture students everyday to bring out their best like above mentioned examples .
and the thing is some teachers are so nice to students but they just spit back in their faces by hitting them by cursing after them I just don't understand the world anymore
I remember in Puerto Rico I was in the sixth grade and this kid was just goofing around and would not stop the teacher got so angry he took this thick hard cover text book and just started smacking the kid after like the third smack the kid fell to the ground then he got up and just walked out of the class
i know in some american schools teachers would paddle students but that doesnt happen much anymore. my gym teacher tried that on me but i told her she wasnt gonna touch me and she threatened to call my mother. i told her to go ahead and call her.
Recently there are some cases of students attacking teachers here in Brazil. But if a teacher slaps first he or she will be prosecuted. It didn't use to be so. Kids under 18 are overprotected by the Brazilian law nowadays
What?! The teacher slapped her over "奇葩"? That's not even bad. From my understand it means “weird/not following norms". And the teacher did start the fight. I feel she's definitely in the wrong (more so than the student), considering she's the grown up/someone the students are supposed to look up to
its not that they are spolied they just dont want to be hit and in american students do fight teacher but not for no reason our parents teach us you only hit somebody if they hit you first so if they come at you then defend urself it doesnt matter who you are if you lay ur hands on me you will get punch in ur face if you want respect you have to give it and i think thats what that girl was thinking that she was defending herself .
C.Y.S.T Channel teacher should have kept her calm. it's all about EQ. they should teach EQ classes to teachers (on how to handle rude students). of course that's after taking a full on test to see if you're sane. no more teacher student relations please.
C.Y.S.T Channel they're not both at wrong. The teacher should know how to deal with children without assault. Respect is earned, I'm not saying the child was perfectly OK, but the teacher should not and can not lay a hand on the student, the child was defending herself
No it is true, kids now adays are hardly children at 13, having sex, babies, killing people, joining gangs, it happens so often beyond this disrespecting people the youth are having a crisis makes me so so sad
I respect teachers but if anyone slaps me I'm slapping them back. Nobody has any right to cause emotional or physical abuse on children in 2021 here. That's on the same level as pedophilia
一日为师,终身为父 is probably not gonna work..after many years of schooling, you would have way too many dads to look after lol. But srsly, if that teacher got taunted by the student, he/she already lost...
Other ways to punish kids without physical violence. Run around the field a few times, clean school and even the toilets, stand outside class, write essays of 1k words of lessons learnt and apology, or if so disruptive...not able to take final exams for college/Uni. Why should everyone pander to disruptive and abusive/bullying students? And no one should especially pander to abusive teachers when there are so many other ways to handle the problem.
wtf guys you think the teacher can hit her wtf they should be in jail not in school then and you are not spoiled if you hit back saying that is bullying of the kid that got attacked by teacher
I greatly appreciate this video and traditional Chinese culture! But I don't idealize it blindly. Education was almost only available for the nobility, yes there were different forms of education (official, village, and private) but you know what I mean. By the way not many of these were consistent in their organization or status, some were periodically banned, although much of the material and books were used throughout. Students were also punished "in ancient times" (please, we should be more specific). Yes, Chinese education was not modeled of the soviet education style and mutual respect of the learning and teaching relationship between teacher and disciple reigned supreme (I have doubts this was universally true, there have always been and will always be some bad teachers and some bad students). Personally I respect the traditional way more than the soviet way, but there are great advantages and disadvantages with both, and none should be idealized.
Hey mike I wanted to ask you a question if you can do a video about this RUclips channel that is verbally bullying there son and I wanted to know your opinions about the channel the channel name is DaddyOFive
Honestly... You two sound very old fashion. How are you guys make it sound like the teacher was right. It's like saying a teacher can make you do anything because they are the teacher. I'm sorry but she is the adult she should know better. If my teacher hit me I would hit back to. It's call self defense. If she can't handle her kids without violence she shouldn't teach. I'm not saying the student was all right but the teacher should know better. I usually like your videos but not this one.
Punishment and reprimanding are one thing. Teachers need to know how to keep control of a classroom and learn how to deal with troublesome students without violence or loosing your temper. If a teacher hits a child they belong in handcuffs.
Safura Salam they should have a test for teachers called teacher management where they hire students to be super annoying and see how they will react

I would also slap back if a teacher slapped me and it's not because I'm spoiled.
its because you re crazy
Nope , it's normal to slap back.
Spyx no. Catholic schools 30 yrs ago would hit you. I guarantee you wouldn't hit them back.
Valter Paavola Exactly, it's self defense, never let anyone disrespect you
For me it's not about disrespect but if a teacher can't control themselves enough to not use violence against minors you lose my respect right there, I don't think the kid was innocent here but that teacher probably shouldn't be a teacher if she can't handle a student being rude.

if a teacher hit me and I did nothing wrong I would hit them back because... self-defense...😑
everybody stop slapping everybody.
Ana Santana Exactly!

lycheens You picked up a student's desk with them sitting there?! Idk why but I find that so bad a**. You're awesome and you didn't hit him.
Good way to deal with it.
You hella strong.
I used to be a good student and was very respectful of my parents but if someone hits me I'm hitting back.

Ana Santana Too true, when I teach English abroad, I'm hoping to go to Japan or South Korea, I don't know if I can hack it in a Chinese school lol
Christianplay1way teachers are not even meant to hug students unless the student wants them to
You may think as a Chinese person that the kid is disrespectful... all I can say is tianeman square..
If a teacher slapped me with a good amount of force I would just straight out punch them, no warning of what comes their way only a sudden movement. Truthfully I wouldn't even care if they are a male, female or if they are old or young I would just say that it was self defence.
Bagels211 u should block it dumbass
I mean if they just slapped me out of nowhere then I would punch out of no where.
Bagels211 nvm i didnt read ot carefully sorry about dat
It's all good we're only human... well most of us
Bagels211 yep
when the teach gets violent its not about teacher & student its about person violating other persons rights or even adult violating minor. If a person slaps you, you can smack back, that's assault
If a teacher slapped me, or even laid hands on me, I would sue
Your kinda right about kids being disrespectful to adults these days. I'm 16 and Ive seen too many of my peers mothers pamper their children rotten

I swear to God I would do the same thing I would slap the teacher back I swear I’m not lying
As soon as a teacher said they'd strike me I'm walking out of their class..

Lost. oh shit same age buddy
One time my teacher tied me up with my jacket and then she got
FIRED! HahahahaahHHhahhabhahhahhahhhahhahhahhhhahhahha!
That kid really needs to learn her place!
As for the teacher, she needs to learn how to control herself.

basically, the teacher stooped down to the level of an immature student. ask the kid to leave your classroom or get administration to remove the kid.
Same here in Brazil, teachers used to be respected, not anymore. Same fate await us both... an imminent doom.
I've seen some kids do some crazy really disrespectful shit here in Ohio. Makes me so sad. I've heard of students hitting teachers too, especially younger kids who are very hyperactive
if a student tempted me to hit him, you bet it'll be a one-hit KO. I am not giving him a chance to hit back.
If any teacher slap i will show him whts right i will break the face of that it doesn't matter what all think i will slap principal too I don't care 😤

In Taiwan, the amount of respect we give to our teachers is very high even in 2017 haha.
TRUE teachers shouldn't hit students BUT that student PROVOKED/GOADED that teacher as well.
Often, it's not the parents who allow the kids to act in such a way, but the children turn that way because their parents are too restrictive. At least that's what I've concluded over the years
My parents gave the teachers permission to punish me. So, as a dumb student in class i got punished all the time and there's this one time in a week where i had to visit the principal's office and she would beat me or slap because of my inability to learn and remember.
thank god I never became a teacher. I could never handle that sort of anxiety
As a matter fact better than the kids these days are tonight… Much better
And I don't agree with the "kids only act this way because their parents allow them to be this way" because it's absolutely not true. one person I know has a son who steals constantly. Oh and he's only 8
The society we live in is gradually becoming more and more depressing 😐
The student asked to be slapped. Noti girl, I m not sorry for her.
I think paddling needs to come back, but not hitting students in the face.
There's that PILLOW again.
I'm a simple person, if someone hurts me, I'll hurt them two times more. If someone kills me I'll kill them as a ghost.
Asian teacher slapping Asian kid: Not rare.
Non-Asian kid slapping teacher: Not rare.
Asian kid slapping Asian teacher: UNHEARD OF.
She is a hypocrite!
Recently there are some cases of students attacking teachers here in Brazil. But if a teacher slaps first he or she will be prosecuted. It didn't use to be so. Kids under 18 are overprotected by the Brazilian law nowadays
same in America if a kids not white and is late teacher can't say anything or its racist
She prolly got beat worse when she got home.
Mike Chen which part of China are you from?
wow, this is wild
SLAP ME!!! PAY FOR MY COLLEGE!!!
What?! The teacher slapped her over "奇葩"? That's not even bad. From my understand it means “weird/not following norms". And the teacher did start the fight. I feel she's definitely in the wrong (more so than the student), considering she's the grown up/someone the students are supposed to look up to
teachers fault xD
um it's not parents fault. parents are limited on punishment.
I would have slap back.
Whats worse than a slap.
A bite.
I'd laugh if the student bit the teacher; and not feel sorry for the teacher
its not that they are spolied they just dont want to be hit and in american students do fight teacher but not for no reason our parents teach us you only hit somebody if they hit you first so if they come at you then defend urself it doesnt matter who you are if you lay ur hands on me you will get punch in ur face if you want respect you have to give it and i think thats what that girl was thinking that she was defending herself .
Honestly, the student asked for it and the teacher didn't want to slap her but she was pushed to do so. Both parties r equally at fault though.
C.Y.S.T Channel the students behaviour is expected the teachers is not
No it is true, kids now adays are hardly children at 13, having sex, babies, killing people, joining gangs, it happens so often beyond this disrespecting people the youth are having a crisis makes me so so sad
kids need to be diciplined
i live in india and iam proud to say that we dont have these kind of videos popping up anytime soon.
I respect teachers but if anyone slaps me I'm slapping them back.
Nobody has any right to cause emotional or physical abuse on children in 2021 here. That's on the same level as pedophilia
why are asians obsessed with little cartoon emojis and peace signs during pics and taking a pic of every meal before it becomes stool?
Personally I respect the traditional way more than the soviet way, but there are great advantages and disadvantages with both, and none should be idealized.
west coast best coast tbh
Looks like that kid deserved a smack in the face.
Dangggg
I think respecting the teacher is the same as respecting your parents
How can she slap
Too much talking wheres the video???
I would to
Hey Mike. Question, how old are you? I swear you look like 27 at the most. 🙂
Jacqueline Arsenault He's around 34 or 35.
Video?
Hey mike I wanted to ask you a question if you can do a video about this RUclips channel that is verbally bullying there son and I wanted to know your opinions about the channel the channel name is DaddyOFive
Took too long to get to the story.
Just show us the video and react to it
I usually like your videos but not this one.
first
That kid really needs to learn her place!
As for the teacher, she needs to learn how to control herself.
