Did you guys miss when Ben Johnson said, "I just need someone who's going to set the table at OC." It's seems like you weren't listening. Johnson is calling the plays. Johnson is designing the offense. Our HC is our OC.
Doyle was an assistant for Sean Payton for 3 years when he was 23. Payton loved him and brought him onto his staff when he came back to coaching. Ben said he wants someone to set the table, be very detailed and spend long nights working. Doyle most likely checks all those boxes
Please man Johnson is the OC he needed a young guy to get the tapes ready for him and some scouting-nothing wrong with hiring a young hungry guy for this spot.
At the Johnson intro, he said his O.C. had to be someone who could help organize the team, study tapes, and work late hours. Basically, the things that a head coach could miss when also being a play caller.
That and an opportunity to take a promising young coach under his wing. Its going to be johnson’s new system, with bj at playcaller too. Doyle will be managing whats being put in place by johnson and co.
Ben Johnson doesn't need to hire a offensive mastermind to be his OC because Ben Johnson is the offensive mastermind and play caller. What he needs is an OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT who can help with some of the offensive side jobs under the title of Offensive Coordinator. Make no mistake, Ben Johnson is the HC/OC of the Bears. Declan Doyle is Ben Johnsons OC/Offensive Assistant and Offensive Assistant is exactly what Declan Doyle did for Sean Payton. He was also a TE coach.
The Doyle hire May end up turning out okay. We have to keep in mind that Antwaan Randle El was brought on as the assistant HC, so Doyle can essentially be developed to learn Ben's system. This could be a surprisingly brilliant move!
Declan is the son of chris doyle, who you may remember was the strength and conditioning coach of the iowa hawkeyes....who was accused of racism by former bear james daniels....what a weird small world
@ not sure why that was so aggressive haha of course Ben is the OC when it comes to building the scheme/playbook and calling the plays. But Ben said his OC was going to be someone close to him to help manage weekly meetings/gameplanning. That role feels like it was filled by Antwan Randall El and Doyle getting the OC title was more about needing a promotion to poach a coach
For continuity, I hope Dennis Allen turns out to be our Steve Spagnuolo. He's had a couple HC opportunities already. I hope Dennis can lock down that side of the ball for multiple years while Ben Johnson installs his culture, philosophy and offense. If Vic Fangio had stuck around in 2019, perhaps the Matt Nagy era would have gone differently.
Declan is a high upside guy. Ben needs someone who will crank out hours of tape right after the game and help him with the scheme. There is some crossover with Sean Payton. MCDC and Ben Johnson are technically branches from that tree. He comes from the Payton tree and is young and knows the modern game. I think the Oline coach will have a larger role with game planning which we don’t have yet.
I'm not sure how a dude from Iowa, who was a TE coach, who has never been a coordinator, who is 28 & whose father is super duper racist, is gonna be able to relate to the QB of the team. Definitely something to monitor
I think Doyle was picked strictly cause of his connection to Dan Campbell. Remember, Ben Johnson said with picking an OC, the most important thing was he wanted a guy he can trust. I'm totally ok with, especially since hes not calling plays. Ben has been hitting home runs with all his picks, so i trust he has very good reasoning behind picking him, and he wont have much impact either way.
The Deckland Doyle thing: people need to keep in mind that TE coaches have to know the OL and WR positions. They are some of the smartest guys on the staff/field. I have never coached with Ben Johnson before and I could go in day 1 and be able to implement what Ben wants to do. If you know your shit, all you have to do is be honest with the players and find what drives them and help keep them focused. Don’t blast a coach for his age. You don’t know him.
Ben johnson is the OC as the HC, doyle is his assistant that does his paperwork. Doyle is younger than Ben and works under him and wont butt heads over the offense.
I would be interested to hear why Ben Johnson chose Doyle. He’s going to be coaching players his age and older than him so the lack of experience is a concern. I am willing to give Johnson the benefit of the doubt however cause he doesn’t seem like someone who would hire just anyone for a coordinator role. Doyle must’ve said some things in his interview with Ben that impressed him and made him the right guy
We got one of the better DC’s out there. And we got an intern as an OC. 😏 I’d much rather have an experienced David Shaw, but I guess he was there again for the Rooney Rule?
Why yall so upset bout the oc hire it don’t matter he wants someone he trusts he don’t need some type of wizard play caller cuz it would be irrelevant. He knows this kid is gonna work hard that’s why he is hired
Who is going to coach the offense and run offensive scrimmages? I go back to this past season's "Don't be afraid to coach us" meeting. How does he relate to players? How will he deal with adversity regarding playing time? How will he convince players older and more experienced than him when he corrects them on blocking schemes and how best to run certain routes? Or is Ben Johnson just always going to be there for the offense and let Hightower and Allen operate independently? Feels like this should be an "offensive assistant" role. I've spent 3 years giving them the benefit of the doubt on every OC hire. I guess at this point I operate under the philosophy with BJ that "You BETTER not hire anybody who's going to cause even a smidgen of controversy during the season, because Ben, YOUR credibility with the players (that is, the locker room) is judged by your hires.
And who better than a young fella who isn't stuck in his ways with his own scheme and how to do things. I'm sure some of the options were a little off on how they wanted to do things.
I’ll be honest, appreciate the show and the work that goes into it, but I just don’t care who they hire until it translates into wins. 15-36 under Poles, gotta turn it around and fast.
Listen I am trust Johnson on this hire. There is no doubt about that. My question is this- why not make Antwaan Randle El your OC and Doyle your wr coach if we are praising Randle El that much abd for good reason too? It just feels like these two hires in particular are backwards in a way- that Randle El should be the OC over all of these guys. But, let’s see what we got. This is probably one of few times in recent bears history where there is an all upside no downside to this situation though. The reason that is is because 1. Johnson will be calling the plays and this is strictly about development of the offense over anything/everything else. 2. Even IF this fails there really is no major negative impact because of the way this is all structured. If it fails you can remove Doyle and place either the qbs coach as the OC or you can promote Randle El to the OC position as well, so either of those guys could just slide in and take the helm (though I’m biased when it comes say in that situation I think Randel El should take over that role because he’s earned it from his time in Detroit and hopefully his immediate impact on the bears offense.
I have no idea how you can assess how a guy will be in a job that you cannot even describe the duties of. With Johnson calling plays, I haven't heard a single coherent explanation from you guys on what the OC will even be doing, nevermind how good a guy you have never heard of will be at doing task you aren't aware of. And I can officially declare I am tired of hearing about the coach rating system. Its like listening to a guy who claims he has figured out the Lotto and can pick winners.
These guys- you need to pair the qb with OC for a HC so they grow together that way the OC wont matter they can come and go Also these guys- i question the OC hire
So the only guy on the staff that has any head coaching experience so far is the guy who had a seven-game losing streak that got fired from the Saints with a 2-7 record? 😅
@ Assistants or coordinators? There are several NFL teams with defensive coordinators who have had previous head coaching experience. Vic Fangio, Steve Spagnuolo, Gus Bradley, Robert Saleh, and Vance Joseph. 😂
These guys didn’t succeed as head coaches, which is why they’re back to being coordinators. It’s a perfect example that not all great coordinators make great head coaches.
The OC hire is a non-factor. We weren't getting a household name for OC knowing they wouldn't call plays.. what would be the allure of sitting in BJ's shadow? Add in the fact we've handed out Asst HC and Passing Game Coordinator titles as well.. 🐻⬇️
Just trashing this dude just cuz he is young, he is 28 but obviously Ben sees something in him and is jumping the curb and making him and OC before someone else does. Hes young with something to prove as opposed to hiring someone past their prime. If it makes you feel warm and cozy say Randle el is the hire, because he will be just as big as assistant head coach as Doyle will be as OC. It’s about getting a group of hard workers to do hard work on this offense
Why is anyone questioning the OC hire??? You guys got good and cooked B4 the video, didn't you!!! Johnson wants a soldier not a general. This is the pathway for tearing down a coach and it's complete Bull shit. These are the guys that went nuts when Nagy ripped into Trubiskey, like they know shit about football.
Hiring Doyle with no NFL exp, as head of OC such an important position doesn't sound right. Seems Ben Johnson is not confident in improving the Bears offense in next yr or two, and needed a possible scapegoat to dump on n fire. Bears need experienced and proven leaders at the head coaching positions right now, sounds off the mark.
Did you guys miss when Ben Johnson said, "I just need someone who's going to set the table at OC." It's seems like you weren't listening. Johnson is calling the plays. Johnson is designing the offense. Our HC is our OC.
Exactly. Buddy is going to be watching a ton of film to help with game planning. That’s what BJ needs. May be his mentor to start his own tree.
Exactly he already said he’s fully in charge of the offense and the team 🐻⬇️
Amen
💯. What Johnson needs from Doyle is trust for what he has in place will be seen thru while he fulfills all his other duties as a HC.
Watch and compile some tape identify tendencies and learn from BEN johnson
Doyle was an assistant for Sean Payton for 3 years when he was 23. Payton loved him and brought him onto his staff when he came back to coaching. Ben said he wants someone to set the table, be very detailed and spend long nights working. Doyle most likely checks all those boxes
Ben said he wanted someone for long nights who better than a young pup who can do all the grunt work for Ben
Bingo
Declan Doyle sounds like the name of a middle school bully from a Disney Channel movie
Lmao it really does
O’Doyle rules
LMAO
Please man Johnson is the OC he needed a young guy to get the tapes ready for him and some scouting-nothing wrong with hiring a young hungry guy for this spot.
Oline coach is the most important hire to me
At the Johnson intro, he said his O.C. had to be someone who could help organize the team, study tapes, and work late hours. Basically, the things that a head coach could miss when also being a play caller.
True. If they organize in a way that let's them flourish in their respective roles then that'll be huge.
An assistant . If Ben Johnson was a CEO this job listing would be for an executive secretary.
Smart choice picking a young kid at 28. Probably doesn’t have a family yet? Can just grind away at Halas let’s go
@@phil.2345that’s what I was thinking
*David Shaw probably wanted to call plays and Ben Johnson had that role reserved for himself.*
Ben will be calling the plays I dont care and we got a Dennis Allen
I’m guessing Ben Johnson sees himself in Doyle
That and an opportunity to take a promising young coach under his wing. Its going to be johnson’s new system, with bj at playcaller too. Doyle will be managing whats being put in place by johnson and co.
He will be table setter for Johnson studying n getting people in place
Did Declan take the $15 per hour offer that Kreutz turned down?
It’s pretty clear why he hired Doyle. He said what he needed. Someone who can work long hours, stay up late. The kid is 28.
So his personal assistant is now our OC... 👍?
We talk about coaching trees. What we're seeing feels like its either the start of a new branch, or dying in its tracks.
😂 He'll be in the booth like :
Hey coach there playing cover 2
Ben Johnson is like : Ok thanks Buddy good job 😂
Declan Doyle is also Ditka's nephew. Super Bowl lock now
Ben Johnson doesn't need to hire a offensive mastermind to be his OC because Ben Johnson is the offensive mastermind and play caller. Love the show and you guys jumping on when updates become available. Keep up the good work!!
Declan is the son of chris doyle, who you may remember was the strength and conditioning coach of the iowa hawkeyes....who was accused of racism by former bear james daniels....what a weird small world
I can’t take ppl who call ppl racist seriously boy who cried wolf
I think the WR coach is the real OC. They needed to use the OC title to poach coaches
No...your wrong. The "real" o.c. is the head coach. Pay attention to what's going on and what's being said.
@ not sure why that was so aggressive haha of course Ben is the OC when it comes to building the scheme/playbook and calling the plays. But Ben said his OC was going to be someone close to him to help manage weekly meetings/gameplanning. That role feels like it was filled by Antwan Randall El and Doyle getting the OC title was more about needing a promotion to poach a coach
hoges last words “And carms at my house”
Declan Doyle. Let us keep our faith in Ben Johnson.
Retaining Richard Hightower is definitely a good move 👍🏼
My god! You guys piss on everything.
They always get pissy when it comes to things they don't know about.
I want Declan to do good so we can yell, "DOYLE RULES!!!"
with Doyle being so young, he might be able to be here for awhile, perchance
Declan is a high upside guy. Ben needs someone who will crank out hours of tape right after the game and help him with the scheme. There is some crossover with Sean Payton. MCDC and Ben Johnson are technically branches from that tree. He comes from the Payton tree and is young and knows the modern game. I think the Oline coach will have a larger role with game planning which we don’t have yet.
Hiring Ohlin Kreutz for o-line coach wouldn't be a home run. It would be a GRAND SLAM !!
Nobody will poach his OC for 6 years- stroke of genius!!
I'm not sure how a dude from Iowa, who was a TE coach, who has never been a coordinator, who is 28 & whose father is super duper racist, is gonna be able to relate to the QB of the team. Definitely something to monitor
Thank god someone said O'Doyle rules!
Declan Doyle coached with Dennis Allen in New Orleans!
I think a big factor was OC’s wanted to call plays. I can imagine that not many wanted to come for that reason
😂 David Shaw wants to call plays
So Ben Johnson was like
Nah im good
Just please get a good OLine all I ask for please lol 😂😂😂
I love how we got them likes up today
You guys are good at getting coaches fired!! Your moms must be proud

Don’t blast a coach for his age. You don’t know him.
I think Randelel will also be a co OC type or maybe he’s the tone setter on the staff
Hoge really really loves that Jordan hoodie
One spaghetti night and that thing is FINISHED
Ben johnson is the OC as the HC, doyle is his assistant that does his paperwork. Doyle is younger than Ben and works under him and wont butt heads over the offense.
Mercedes lewis jumps offsides every time he enters the game. Washed up bumb
Add in Gerald Everett and they gave away 8 million dollars last year
I would be interested to hear why Ben Johnson chose Doyle.
Bears brass probably said, "dont spend too much on offensive coordintor" im ok with that.
Mark Carman is the best!
Hilarious to listen to Hoage to sing the praises of Hooters from his house where, presumably, his wife and kids are today
Guys, not saying this guy is Sean McVay but look at the age and experience and when they got OC jobs.
If Ben Johnson is a generational offensive minded HC, I trust his pick in OC, you got to get those generational talents young... Or lose them.
Double D must be, (that was a bar) a young Ben Johnson on the rise.
A 28 year old coach is gonna be hungry. Trying to prove himself everyday. This is Ben Johnson’s offense. It’s a fine hire.
How does Hightower not lose his job after his ST had a fg blocked 2 weeks in a row from the same gap?!
Our kicker is not good, his range is awful on top of his kicks being very low arching.
The PR vs GB
Need a new kicker
Probably because the unit was ranked inside the top 10 this year
I agree, but maybe it came down to the devil they know with this choice if there weren't better ones wanting to come.
We got one of the better DC’s out there. And we got an intern as an OC. 😏 I’d much rather have an experienced David Shaw, but I guess he was there again for the Rooney Rule?
What is Karm doing with you in your room is the question lol
Why yall so upset bout the oc hire it don’t matter he wants someone he trusts he don’t need some type of wizard play caller cuz it would be irrelevant. He knows this kid is gonna work hard that’s why he is hired
Yeah BJ probably wanted someone who will be a sponge and not try to over step because they want it their way.
Jt Barnett is a coach he worked with
Who is going to coach the offense and run offensive scrimmages? I go back to this past season's "Don't be afraid to coach us" meeting. How does he relate to players? How will he deal with adversity regarding playing time? How will he convince players older and more experienced than him when he corrects them on blocking schemes and how best to run certain routes? Im pretty sure Carm is high AF here.
I hope first interview this guy takes, he slaps the recorder out of the reporters hand yells “DOYLE RULES” and walks off.
All city laying people off left and right maybe they should try having more show than ads sometime
I kinda was hoping they were going someone who is more experienced to offset Johnson’s lack of experience.
BJ said the OC was gonna be an assistant to him.
Hightower is actually a really good special teams coach. The procedure by the defense was illegal on both of those blocks
Not worried about the OC since Ben will be calling plays..
My question is how in the hell Hoge ever got hired by anyone to do any thing.
Listen I am trust Johnson on this hire. There is no doubt about that. My question is this- why not make Antwaan Randle El your OC and Doyle your wr coach if we are praising Randle El that much abd for good reason too? I think Mark's T shirt is green if that's the case that will be the second time he wore yellow and green on the set that's a serious offense
Doyle could just be a placeholder , it doesn’t have to be long term.
Weak canidate tells me Johnson is just enforcing the fact that he wants/has full control.
Yeah like your saying he probably doesn't want to bump heads with a coach who's stuck in their ways with their schemes.
@@nwhite3562Definitely. BJ is by no means a dummy.
Look at the Broncos TE room. Not much to work with there. Randle EL is a beast.
Declan will be here for a while his Job will be film boy
19:33 of course we didn't hire an established OC. No established OC is taking a job where he doesn't call the plays.......
Declan o’doyle rules
Jim Leonard should of been hired as the DC
I have no idea how you can assess how a guy will be in a job that you cannot even describe the duties of. Yeah wtf is the claim to fame coaching grade. The brains go in overdrive when something isn't done in the set way.
These guys- you need to pair the qb with OC for a HC so they grow together that way the OC wont matter they can come and go
Also these guys- i question the OC hire
He’s not calling plays so what’s the big deal. Ben Johnson said he needs guys he trust and can work late hours. 🐻👇🏾
probably had to save money on the OC - it's the white sox strategy
What happened to Shaw?
We need to sign up Chris Jones and Trey Smith
So the only guy on the staff that has any head coaching experience so far is the guy who had a seven-game losing streak that got fired from the Saints with a 2-7 record? 😅
Yea we got the most sought after head coaching hire in the past 5 years…
How many staffs have former NFL HCs as assistants?
@ Assistants or coordinators? There are several NFL teams with defensive coordinators who have had previous head coaching experience. Vic Fangio, Steve Spagnuolo, Gus Bradley, Robert Saleh, and Vance Joseph. 😂
These guys didn’t succeed as head coaches, which is why they’re back to being coordinators. It’s a perfect example that not all great coordinators make great head coaches.
Ben Johnson will teach Doyle
The OC hire is a non-factor. We weren't getting a household name for OC knowing they wouldn't call plays.. what would be the allure of sitting in BJ's shadow? Add in the fact we've handed out Asst HC and Passing Game Coordinator titles as well.. 🐻⬇️
Carm is definitely high as shit 🤣
Aren’t they also bringing on Antoine Randle el and does that make Doyle hire easier?
Randle El assistant head coach and wr coach. Been Johnson is calling plays so Doyle will have a lesser role than most OCs
They'll also probably bring coaches with a passing game cordinator and a running game cordinator title.
Is doyle really Ditkas nephew?
I wonder why Da Bears didn't hire Shaw.
Butler was a great kicker gold was gold Santos is ok but not enough leg
Braggs is THAT MUCH YOUNGER THAN CARM!
Age doesnt matter guys lets stop the b.s.
Carm at your house, yikes
Why is anyone questioning the OC hire??? You guys got good and cooked B4 the video, didn't you!!! Johnson wants a soldier not a general. This is the pathway for tearing down a coach and it's complete Bull shit. These are the guys that went nuts when Nagy ripped into Trubiskey, like they know shit about football.
It’s almost like hiring the OJT - inexperienced john shoop when he became an OC with dick jauron. It was bad!
In my mind Hightower has always been a weak link
Hiring Doyle with no NFL exp, as head of OC such an important position doesn't sound right. Seems Ben Johnson is not confident in improving the Bears offense in next yr or two, and needed a possible scapegoat to dump on n fire. Bears need experienced and proven leaders at the head coaching positions right now, sounds off the mark.
Or DD is a bright mind who can break down tape and formulate plays and concepts like BJ wants.
And he’s not going to call plays either
Double D😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
BJ and Double DD HEADing the offense.
