I bought an Aventon Level 2 step over frame exactly 12 months ago and I love it. For me, at approx 175 pounds, trying to stay under $2K, I tested several different e bikes, but far and away the Aventon Torque sensor was the best. 60 mile range, or about 40 mile range at max speeds and hills, etc. Zero problems, but that said I've only ridden about 1000 miles so far. Too many toys!

Thank you for this! As a senior this video is a big time saver. I've been researching quite a bit and narrowed it down to a few including the Aventon level 2. Are there reasons why I should consider your recommendation of the Radster Road over the Aventon?

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  10 месяцев назад +10

It's a slightly more relaxed body positioning. The handling isn't as nimble as the Level 2, but we think most people will like the better comfort.

Most are all between 52 and 65 pounds, just the general range for standard ebikes. The batteries weigh 8 pounds, so if you remove those first it'll help to load the bike

      @@SnoopyReads fyi, to a 110# female OR a 70yo male/female, the difference between 52# vs 65# is a lot.
Also, things to include on a ebike/etrike review include wgt capacity, wgt of ebike/etrike, AND if it folds then does it roll when folded or must it be carried.

After all of the videos I have seen of every kind of ebike I find that every video is bias. Why? Most of the ebike companies give out free bikes to the people making the video. Although they say I will give my honest opinion of the ebike I don't trust most. Do your homework on the company that you decide to pick their ebike. Some of these ebike companies will be a seller and will lack in service or help. They will tell you that it is in stock only to find out a couple weeks go by and they spill the beans and say " We are having problems with the shipper " or " Demand for the ebike you want has been overwhelming" Thus your off the road with them taking your money and tell you if you cancel they will charge you a fee. Don't ever pay them a cancelation fee. Well good luck and pedal like your battery is low. Cheers.

@@SeymourKittyBut from everything I've read, which is a lot, Aventon is the worst for customer service. I fully believe this as I was going to order an aventure2 but couldn't get through,on hold forever. The price went up $200 but i still tried again and same thing. The price went up again $200 and they stopped the free extra battery and I gave up. The bike is rated high but sooo many people saying 3,4,5 months for the extra battery and same for warranty parts if you can get them to respond. I can't imagine the sales lost because of a lack of customer service.

I am considering an e-bike as I now have 1) a 4-mile work commute (One way) and have weather where I could bike year-round (Tucson, AZ) and 2) my car gets 16 mpg city/20 mpg highway. I haven't seen anyone discuss traveling downhill on e-bikes. Maybe you guys could discuss/add a downhill test like you do in the going uphill test (as part of your review on e-bikes). My commute would include both uphill and downhill, I don't want to find out after I made a purchase. I'm concerned about wearing out brake pads and possibly over-heating the brakes. Will the electric hub help control speed gained by traveling downhill?

I have been riding ebikes for 14 years. Im on my sixth bike. One point that is rarely addressed is battery replacement. It is very important that you will be able to acquire a replacement battery. Batteries get wet and fail, they get stolen, they will all lose charge over time, I have had 2 that quit accepting charge, balancing internal wires can loosen causing failure. If you ride a lot, at some point battery replacement will be important. I wonder about internal frame batteries future availability,

No Pedego on the list? I love my Rige Rider I recently purchased with so much power (750 watt motor ) and style with top notch components. The best experience is connecting with a real brick and mortar store that only sells their own bike’s. I have seen videos of several bikes you listed with issues and their owners going thru the process of trying to have them repaired at average bike stores that seem less interested . No thanks. Pedego warranty is basically no questions asked. Most e-bikes are essentially the same, two wheels, a motor and a battery. Go for the one who can service and repair your bike by walking into a dedicated store and being greeted with a smile. Just throwing it out there. 😊

I have a 23lb dog that I need to be able to transport at times, which I use a tow behind trailer for. I also use the trailer for errands when panniers just won’t do. This is my main form of transportation. The Radster is more than 10lbs heavier than the Ramblas. I’m wondering what to think about that.
I use a non-electric mountain bike now but I’m getting up there in years and and thinking this will be a easier solution for my transportation needs while staying on a bike. I live in a small high elevation mountain town and this will be winter transportation as well.
Any opinions or experience between these two models would be greatly appreciated.

@Frisher1 - I'm thinking you maybe didn't see the full list? We have the Velotric T1 ST on this list (They did drop the Thunder part from the model name). And We agree the Velotric Packer 1 is a great cargo bike. The hardest part with an overall "Best List" is we only pick 1 bike for each category, and trust me, what we pick is a sweat. We sit down as a team and go through all the bikes we have tested, the results of those tests, the price, the styling, feedback we receive from people that buy e-bikes based on our recommendations, and do our best to compile and analyze all of that data to make our decisions. One thing we will be pushing out this year that will help a ton, are "Best List" Videos for every major category we cover. This will allows us to get much more granular in each individual category and cover the test data and nuances within each individual category. Thanks for your comments!

I have a Portola and it's interesting what you ask about the handlebars. They do in fact feel a bit like BMX handlebars. I think they could be swapped out but you may just want to call Ride1Up directly, I've found customer service to be fine. I also have a 700 series but prefer riding the Portola for the very reason that it feels like a BMX bike.

The Wired Freedom uses a BMX handlebar. I love it, because I want to ride upright.
You can also lean the bars back for reach issues, which you know, of course.
I don't imagine the swap over would be too difficult if you get handlebars made for an ebike. I don't know enough yo know if regular BMX handlebars would be as easy.
Hope this helped you a little.

Both folding models were very heavy (64 and 59 lbs). They win on price but for someone who is in the market for a folder, theyre too heavy to be practical. The only one ive found that seems lractical is the carbo model x and s(which i dont think youve reviewed), the other is the brompton which is kver $3k but has the advantage of being a good folder aside from the electric. Anyway, would love to see some focus on weight for this category and a review for the carbo model s

With seven gears and man disc brakes these were great bikes. I went thu 3 sets of batteries over the years. They never broke down and I sold them both this year June 2024. I totally agree with step through designs - a grocery mission could easily be quite heavy with liquids, and if slippery conditions, trying to throw a leg over too high, one could so easily drop to concrete painfully. And step through designs don't need to look like a girls bike, just a simple D shape bottom frame loop, to easily get foot through and maintain ballance and the load with both feet on the ground.
