What a brilliant film but it’s also quite sad to think that probably most of the people seen here are no longer with us. These poor buggers never know that within a couple of years their lives would change forever. Looking at the young men in this film and wondering did they come back from war or not. It makes you stop and think how we should never take life for granted. My father spent 6 years away in WW2 but he was lucky he came home🇬🇧

Beautiful footage. Look how busy Blackpool is? All these people just enjoying their day out for what it is (not like the moaners we get today). These people looked so classy, holding onto their hats on the piers, determined nothing was going to ruin their day (not even the weather). Moments like these are unique and your Grandfather captured it all.

I have to say, what a remarkable film. Blackpool is still, for better or for worse, instantly recognizable almost 90 years later! I realize it is April, but it looks SO COLD! Everybody is well-dressed, as would be expected for a day out, but they're also dressed very warmly like it is winter! Despite what some people wrote in the comments, I think that families haven't changed all that much. There is still a desire to be together, to have fun together, and to let off a little steam. Society and demographics may have changed, but the core desires have not. Maybe Blackpool isn't the first choice for a family holiday today as it was back then, but it still has the beach and the coastline, if not the weather. The things that made it fun in 1936 are still there today, albeit on a lesser scale. Who knows, if air costs soar post-COVID, maybe domestic resorts like Blackpool, Rhyl, Great Yarmouth and Brighton will see a resurgence. It is sad to think that just about every living being in this video is no longer with us; I suppose many wouldn't see out the decade that followed from this day. Loved watching this, thanks for sharing it. I'm an 80's child and grew up going to Blackpool on holiday. I love seeing how it's changed. I'm also a vintage fashion and car fan, so it was good to watch for that. How fantastic, this footage as been kept in tact all these years.
this is so amusing to watch. Blackpool has always been my favourite area in Lancashire and seeing how many happy faces there are here
Although I was born in Blackpool, (1952) I never lived there. My grandparents lived in Devonshire Rd and I vaguely remember holiday visits there.
Just came across this video while looking through you tube I visit Blackpool a few time a year with having family there interesting seeing how things were then to now thanks for sharing

I love to go to a seaside resort and freeze my behind off. What fun!
The seagulls still sound the same they haven’t changed no gangster talk from them
What superb, well filmed footage. A fascinating gem of a film from the 1930s. All dressed up in their best, for a day trip to the seaside. Wonderful stuff, thank you
This is wonderful in every way. I adore it. The rollercoaster images are beautiful!
Blackpool always in my heart.
