  • Nurses and midwives took to the streets this week Monday in protest of the new guidelines for verification of certificates introduced by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
The nurses want the council to address the shortage of nursing staff in hospitals, salary scale and nurses welfare instead of attempting to limit the career opportunities for nurses who may wish to relocate.

The government can do whatever they like with the doctors because government is the one sponsoring their residency program. But for nurses they paid through their noses to get trained, not only that, they are also the least paid in the health sector, despite the fact that nurses are the heartbeat of the health sector.

Government should sponsors students in nursing school, those ones can be retained, sponsor the students nurses, sponsor the nurses that are already working in schools, specialty, doctors enjoy sponsorship during their residency and many others, only nurses struggles and spent their money on their education.salary should be looked into, our salary is too poor, environment is unconducive etc all this should be looked into

How can Nmc say nurses should be collecting letter from CEO,CEO are always doctors,is it those arrogant doctors?.Is it those doctors that are full with pride?
Why such policy when nursing profession itself have Directors , doctors in nursing etc, why can't the letter come from a senior professional coleague? Why from a different professional but a team in the health sector,we wouldn't take it.Never

Please sue the council, get a competent lawyer. It is so wrong on many levels. If they are successful on this ill thought out process, what profession is next?
