Sorry I'm late to the party on this one brother! Some may be helpful advice on it.... instead of butt-welding that in there lay your bottom in like you have it and cut the "tub" like you are showing... but drill a bunch of holes in around the edge of your "floor" piece and use plug welds to attach it to the "tub". Plug Welds are very strong and won't heat walk (warp) like a butt will. When you are finished with it, take that cheap hardware store "Painter's Calk" and seal your edges with it (don't use silicone only the paintable stuff). To get the calk to lay in and hide, dip your finger in a little water and smooth the calk in and let it completely dry.... then paint over it to lock it into place and keep it from shrinking or chipping off later (house painters use this method all the time to hide carpenter's mistakes and it works extremely well).
You Talk About behind the 8 ball or late for the party.....That would be me after being super sick for a good week. Now I'm trying to get back on track ... having some good luck with that one...lol. I wanted to let you know that I like and appreciate your advice. Coming from you I feel that is top notch advice. I did think about plug welding the pan ...but the I figured I would be making more heat to the new metal by chasing drilled holes on the thin and heavy rusted metal...that is why I went with cut and butt-weld....I still got some oil can popping in the new metal ...didn't take my time like I should have....but it is a toy Rat Rod Wagon and with the frame I built under it ... I'm thinking all good for this time. I like the painters calk ideal.... but I have fiberglass filler that's laying around so I'm going to use that .....lol...going to have to save money somehow in order to pay for shipping...lol. BareRose Sir, I truly appreciate your advice and tips.... I'll take it anytime you give it. Thank you Sir....Make it your own ...that's customizing.
You got some crazy/cool ideas. My kind of hotroder. I would like to do something like this with an old pedal car that my Grandson has outgrown. Slam it on the ground !
