Wrong vehicle model, wrong vehicle color, wrong license plate number, wrong number of vehicle occupants . . . but the driver's ethnic race matched that of the suspect.

None of this would've happened if they'd ran the plate before approaching with guns drawn. Given that they were searching for a shooting suspect, why would they leave their patrol vehicles and antagonize him? If they had found said shooter he might've started blasting when they pulled him over or when they pointed their guns at him.

I just recently called this police department to complain about the officers following me through the town in the middle of the night while I'm on my way to work as I am an overnight worker. I always set my Cruise control to the speed limit and i'm sure to have all of my safety functions in order. This department's officers will literally harass you through their town, However, the sergeant I spoke with was very nice and did say he would communicate this issue with his officers.

They never think they did anything wrong, will never hold themselves accountable. Oh, and hey reporters - thier statement that you posted without questioning it is pure BS - acting on information they had at the time??? - BS!!! - the officers notepad had the license plate # on it and possibly other identifying info so they had the right information, they just chose NOT to verify it before coming out guns drawn and traumatizing an innocent man. You just perpetuated their lies because nobody dares question what the police say. If you want be journalists THEN BE journalists, not some sycophantic mouthpiece for an incompetent organization.

I support law enforcement, but you HAVE to make sure you have the right suspect when you have that detailed information. Additionally, one officer didn’t issue commands to ensure safety, he threatened deliberate murder for non compliance. The Woodridge taxpayers will foot a MAJOR lawsuit bill for this one. A LOT of retraining is necessary with this bunch.

They do that because they are told to do whatever they want and they will be protected and you can tell that by their statement. “They acted on the information they had” no they did not, non of the information matched, zero of it. That means they ignored the information they had and acted on adrenaline and the need for a rush.
They train as if it’s a mortal combat game, with laughter and high fives afterwards so when the real thing happens they have no idea how to act.

correction, the police insurance policy will pay out any settlement, not the city with taxes they collect. If it happens repeatedly the insurance will drop them and if they can't get insurance they will be forced to disband the police.

They have all the information they need at their fingertips but of course even when the consequences of getting it wrong is killing or traumatising someone innocent that isn't a good enough reason to actually double check before they turn on their lights. They simply don't view putting you in danger as a good enough reason to do that
