- In Belgium’s first match since their third place finish at the FIFA World Cup, they ran away 4-0 winners against Scotland.
They led 1-0 at the break and Scotland had competed well but three quick fire goals at the start of the second half knocked the stuffing out the home side and secured the win for Roberto Martinez’s side.

Right, the big match for Scotland National Team is on Monday vs. Albania.
But looking at tonight, a back 3 for Scotland simply isn't the right way to go...
It's got to be a back 4 with Kieran Tierney at left back and Andrew Robertson wide of 3 with 2 central midfield (and one advanced behind striker). I like Ryan Fraser and looking forward, I would have him playing advanced right, with license to roam and could even fill in at right back with someone like James Forrest ahead.
I like Callum Paterson as a right back, but he plays mainly in midfield these days for Cardiff???

A solid back four is the way to go and having Robertson and Tierney being able to alternate with one another.
I am not too disheartened with it being a friendly and new line up and formation with some really horrendous errors. And despite that massive mistake in the first half for the first goal, John McGinn was excellent and continued to be even after that big error and grew in strength and stature, a class act in midfield...
Also, this match (and most other friendly matches that we aren't gonna get any more than 30,000 - 50,000) should have been played at a full house at the likes of Easter Road or Tynecastle as opposed to a less than half empty Hampden Park.
We are gonna have to play well and be far less sloppy on Monday if we want to get a result, Scotland - we need to win. And Alex, a back 4, please.... ⚽️👍🏴❤
It wasn't a friendly Greig we are in a cup compettion that can get us automatic Euro qualification.You may not be disappointed but i am.Its our heaviest home defeat in decades.You say Albania is "the important game".They all are.And if we get battered by all the good teams,and then just say "hey its ok we've got Albania next" thats the talk of a loser.Im not a loser.No sugar coating.It was awful.

Most fun to watch is probably a better description, France is stronger but not nessecarily a treat to it's fans it terms of stylish football.

We have excellent youth programs and really we just need to keep working hard at producing excellent players to make up for size. We might still prove succesfull in that for a few decade's more. In the meantime i'm happy we are ambassadors for the "joga bonito".

Despite the drubbing, there were a few decent moves by Scotland, at least in the highlights. The Belgian goals weren't much more than a gift, except for Hazard's, his was just lovely. I look forward to seeing what this younger team will do in the coming years.

In the very least Scotland played one of the best teams in the world right now, they have a young team that misses experience. 0-4 is harsh but they'll learn and gain experience from games like this, sure Scotland could've invited San Marino over for a trashing but what good would that do? This was a friendly exhibition match with nothing at stake and a good test for the nations league.

Good result for Scotland. Given their level, as a relative pub team, I was expecting at least 7 or 8 goals for Belgium. Belgium were in 1st gear obviously and look very impressive. Long, long journey ahead for Scotland to even dream about qualifying for tournaments.

I hope that was a real lesson for the young boys in the squad. Give the ball away softly in certain areas of the park and you would be as well shooting at your own goals. All 4 goal could have been prevented. I'm not fussed about the result but if I was the manager I'd be jumping up and down about possession, decisions and control.

@@NoycieBrv Bale is our only world class player. Ramsey is good but hit or miss. The rest of the team is not much better than Scotland. When we lose those two and maybe Joe Allen, we look extremely ordinary and lack any creativity in the middle and going forward.
I can't buy the fact you are worse than Northern Ireland when you have twice the amount of players to choose from. They have a tiny squad and competed brilliantly in the last two qualifying campaigns.
I think Strachan probably did deserve the chop, but he had you on a good run at the end of the last campaign. The SFA seem a lot like the Welsh FA, a stagnant old boys network in need of root and branch change.

They were rubbish back in 2009. They went from 2002 to 2014 without even qualifying for anything. Not many teams beat this CURRENT generation of fantastic Belgium players.
barnbersonol: TBH, that was in 2016, back when Belgium had a young inexperienced team, a makeshift defense ( because the main defenders were injured ) and a coach that didn't really know what he was doing, combined with the fact that they had just beaten hungary 4-0, so they were probably a bit overconfident ( just like against japan ), and Wales who had an in form Bale, so yeah, that's the reason why they lost against wales.
In fairness Scotland weren't awful in attack and had a fair few chances. The problem is the defenders just aren't composed on the ball. Watch Harry Maguire pick up the ball and carry it towards the opposition's box and then watch any of these goals and it's clear that that was the main problem for Scotland tonight.

This match was really Scotland 0-1 Belgium - with 3 gifted goals from Scotland that they could have easily just turned around and scored themselves if they had wanted. Stupid, schoolboy errors that has NOTHING to do with the manager. Had these of not happened, it would have been a completely different result and match report. If this is what we aiming to become under McCleish, but get humiliated in the process of, then I'll happily accept that. He could have easily of set the team up to flood the midfield, and have the defenders hump the ball up the park - like any Scottish team you can think of over the past 20 years. He didn't. He wants them to play football. I can't offer anything else other than my full support of that.

Highlights? The audacity.
Really disappointed with yesterdays performance, expected it to be a close game. First off, formation sucked donkey balls. Second, why start fraser when forrest has been our go-to right winger. Scotlands defending is poor in the first place so I believe mcleish really wanted us to lose only putting 3 in the back. Mcleish out.
Ryan Fraser is a better defender and just as good going forward than Forrest. Also, Fraser has got more goals in him than Forrest, too.
Forrest has much more experience and is much faster. Plus forrest starts almost every game and has been ready. Not to mention Forrest has better linkup with griffiths, tierney, callum, armstrong etc.
