Earlier today (March 3, 2021) during our day trip to Champery (the Switzerland portion of the massive ski area Portes du Soleil) this happened: as I started going down the red run Dronnaire, I thought I was going down the trail when I ended up going off of it. The area was not closed off. No sign warning about any danger. No ropes. No barrier. No nothing. The area was just open and so I followed a red marker and then this happened. To make matters worse, because of all the past sun and warmth, the snow was practically all gone outside of the trails, and I unfortunately landed on the hard ground and rocks, my right arm taking all the impact. When you have such a big slam like this, your first thought is "oh no, here comes the chopper". Luckily, apart from the scare I am not seriously injured like I could have been. I could have easily dislocated by shoulder, since it received a direct blow to a rock! I was luckily able to get up, find my brother who went on a less dangerous trail, and ski for the rest of the day. My right shoulder and elbow are pretty banged up, but it could have been worse. I think its not ok for a ski resort to disregard the safety of the trails like Champery did on this run. Always ski with caution, but accidents can happen and sometimes its not your fault.
