Kill Bill Vol 2, Bill's analogy of Clark Kent to Beatrice Kiddo says otherwise. Loved his take on what CK represents in terms of how Superman sees humanity!
It isn't the glamor. It is the same cynicism that makes Lex Luthor. It is the idea that it is easier to believe that people are innately evil than good. That people are more selfish than selfless. That if there was a real Superman, that he wouldn't waste his life as Clark Kent. This is all the same cynicism that Zach Snyder sells. Homelander from The Boys. Etc... Lois isn't just mad that Clark hid his identity as Superman. She just can't understand why Superman would choose to be Clark.
Yes, but imagine if someone that you are best friends with has made you believe that they are two different people for years. Her reaction was realistic, but she did get over it.
Loved this show. Never was a fan of superman before it or after, didn't read comics either, but somehow this show dragged me in. Very great cast, acting, dialogue and fun action scenes. Also great camera work.
I remember reading from somewhere about Christopher Reeve telling the casting director for Superman that he was all set to playing double roles. The director corrected him and said that he's Superman all the time, and Clark Kent was just an act. This is my favorite L&C episode because of how it broke that Superman mold, and it was amazing. People say Superman is boring because he's basically a nigh-invincible superhero who can fly, who can freeze and melt things at a distance, bullets literally bounce off of and can turn back time. His one weakness is a rare metal that's not even found on this planet. All the troubles of the world felt contrived beside a literal god with that kind of power. If they had kept Superman as human as possible the way this show did as outlined by this one line, he might have been more interesting.
It didn't break anything because it was just doing what the comics were doing at the time. And in my opinion, it's just yet another change to the character that makes him less unique and more like other characters in an effort to make him palatable to people who think he's corny and boring. That's why I hate the changes. I like the way he is and I'm sick of the constant bending to the will of people who'd rather be watching or reading Spider-Man.

Clark was raised as Clark, and learned he is also Kal EL, not raised as Kal EL and grew up to pretend to be Clark. It's like saying Worf's Star Fleet identity is a disguise, and in his heart he is just like Gowron just because he is Klingon or some crap.
Lois fell for Clark way before she found out or truly suspected he was Superman while when she first met Clark she was not too nice to him but she was not really nice to too many people but even then she showed that she cared for him deeply and saw him as her friend and student in a way yeah.
The Lone Ranger lmao I just figured the kid never been in love or been in a fight with a girl in his life. Or maybe he just really loves the robotic acting of the DCEU with such classic lines as "I heard it's all downhill after the first kiss." And the ever so popular "save Martha!"
@@danburgs I know that John Shea lives on the East Coast and didn't want to stay in LA for the duration of the show. So they wrote him out as a regular. The first Jimmy, Michael Landis was recast because they said he looked too much like Dean Cain, but there were rumors he was difficult to work with. As for why they wrote out Cat Grant, I have no idea. I don't like they never even gave her a proper send off. They also got rid of the show creator Debra Joy Levine, the writing took a huge nose dive after she left, big mistake.
It's understandable for Lois to get mad at Clark for being Superman and it's understandable for Clark not telling Lois that he is Superman. There are reasons why superheroes have alter egos and why they never reveal their true identities. If the villains they fight found out who they really are, the lives of their families and friends will put in great danger and superheroes have to be careful with who they trust. If Bruce Wayne revealed or someone exposed to the police and the press that he was Batman, the police would go after him for his acts of vigilantism and Bruce Wayne would be forced to answer for all the things he has done as Batman and all the villains he fought and had put away would go after Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne did what he did as Batman because he fought for justice and Clark Kent does what he does as Superman because fights to save people and fights for truth and justice and what is right.

Superman is what I can do... Clark is who I am. The most Superman line ever. Man this show really got the character. He was raised as clark kent, that's who he is. Superman is what he chose to do and become. At the end of the day when the costume comes off and he comes home he's clark kent, son of jonathan and martha kent. Raised onna farm and a great journalist. He's still just a dude. That's what I've always loved about Superman. He eats pizza just like the rest of us. He just so happens to be the best dude there is. It's who he was raised to be. He was the best of humanity. And he represents what we can become if we just try. Not the powers but what the man who uses them believes in. Superman is what he could do always. But clark kent is what defines how he uses those powers.
"How can I ever trust you again" Says the woman who was taking midday strolls being all lovely dovey with another man before she knew they were the same man. One of the reasons why I always hated lois, she hypocritical and doesn't even realise it. In the later movies she falls for Clark after confirming his superman.

This is actually the foundation of the biggest character mistake in Justice League, after they resurrect Superman Diana tries to connect to him as Kal-El the last Kryptonian, Batman gets it right by having Alfred bring Lois to connect to Clark.
I'd like to say that Diana only called him that to keep his alternate identity a secret, but I've never seen the movie and I think that I would be giving it too much credit, anyway, if I did.
@@r0bw00d it's also a difference of culture Diana in the beginning always called Clark Kal-el instead of Clark because she respected his lineage but later called him back his adopted name because he really doesn't like the name Kal-el it's just not who he is.

It honestly pisses me off when I see characters act like that to Superhero Identity reveals. "How could you lie to me boo hoo how can I trust you was it all just pretend?!" Lady; we *all* have secrets. Just because someone wants to keep a few doesn't mean they don't care about you. Reacting like that is a great way to make sure they never want to tell you something again.
So Lois- she's real surface value, you know? She only looks at what things are on the naked eye. She jumps to conclusions, she pumps herself up, and she's got a big head because of the place she works at and how successful she is. She looks right through him those first two seasons- and it breaks my freaking heart that he's trying to reach out to her and she's oblivious to what's RIGHT in front of her. All she cared about his getting SuperMan's attention. That Episode, "I'm looking through you" was a lil heart wrenching, because it really zeroed in on how invisible to everyone Clark feels. SuperMan was taking over, and he felt that he was disappearing completely, even to his parents, who were busy admiring the figurines and comics they'd purchased. And Lois- She was only focused on that cape. She's a real good person though- a good friend, a loyal partner. When she was pondering herself in the mirror right before her wedding to Lex- I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I dunno. That's just my thought. :'D I'm too young for this show. It'd been out for some 11 years before I was born. The Cast, was perfect. Though, I'm sad they changed out the Jimmy from the First season. (Apparently he looked too much like Dean's Brother. Why they changed him out for that reason (Of that was the true reason) I'll have no idea)
The best versions of Superman is built on a foundation that is Clark Kent. A lot of people these days write Superman only and completely omit Clark Kent in one way or another, and those that do write Clark Kent write a version of that isn't a farmer's son who only wants to do the right thing by all. When did it become unbelievable fantasy that a person with a kind heart with a lot of power wouldn't do the right thing?
Finally? You do know its a show from the early 90s? If you saw the pilot you would still be able to see where the wires would be when Superman flew in Lois to the Daily Planet office. On the other hand I can't blame you, since the writers wanted the show to be timeless so they couldn't use fads or too fancy stuff
@@zilvertron I have no idea what you're comment even means. I am talking about Superman's character. Specifically how there are very few people who understand it. That's why she's so mad! She was fooled by a pair of glasses, an attitude and a change in the pitch of his voice. I'm surprised that she didn't figure it out earlier the time she saw Clark after a shower with the upper body strength he had. She noticed that, but didn't make the connection.
Tenhirankai that's part of it, but I think she was also pretty pissed because Tempus was mocking her pretty bad. Saying everyone in the future thought she was an idiot. She took some solace when HGWells later revealed that's not quite true, people saw her as someone blinded by deep love
Damn, Terri Hatcher was hot in that show. Besides that, I always liked how Dean portrayed Clark. An alien who wasn't posing as a man, but living as one because that's how he grew up. A total contrast to Bruce Wayne who even says himself that Clark is the most human of them all.
It's the entire crux of the Superman character. He really is just a farm boy from Kansas. It doesn't matter that he's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, or can leap a skyscraper in a single bound. He's a Kent. His family is Martha and Jonathan. Humans are his family, and his friends, and Earth is his home. The only connection to Krypton is the Fortress, and the "S" on his chest. Superman is what he can do; Clark Kent is who he is!
Dean Cain was hands-down the best Clark Kent ever (Reeve being the best *Superman*). I like how he reversed the traditional dichotomy: Clark being the smart and confident one, and playing Superman like a doofus. Superman was the made-up character, flat, no personality, designed to impress mankind with his brute force. Actually makes more sense. Superman was always kinda dumb, let's be honest.
Superman on this show was never portrayed as a doofus. He knew he was a symbol and adjusted his behavior. He's super nice to kids and does charity work. He's prideful when up against criminals but he's never stupid. Plenty of problems required smart thinking. Never really flat to me or brute forcing everything. It's like if Mr Rogers had super human strength, speed, flight, and laser vision. Clark though wasn't portrayed as a doofus. He's like the perfect male role model but........then Superman exists. There are times where it's just like Superman is great but Clark Kent is amazing.

You know, it honestly kinda annoys me when a superhero's loved one discovers what they do and is like: "I can't believe you lied to me!" Like, really? You can't believe your _superhero_ boyfriend didn't tell you he's a _superhero?_ It's supposed to be some kind of major betrayal of trust that he didn't tell you his _greatest secret_ on like the first date? Do you even know what a superhero _is?_ Sure, Lois, he's a real jerk for not immediately trusting you - an investigative reporter - with incredibly dangerous private information about himself. For goodness sake, woman, your were a military brat and your dad is a US army general. You should be familiar with the concept of restricted access to sensitive information on a need-to-know basis.
To give you the whole picture and not just the highlights, she put on a show here. She had already figured it out that those 2 are the same by the time Clark told her. She even said so during early season 3 or late season 2, can't remember if it was before or close to their wedding that she had it figured out but didn't tell because it amused her to watch Clark come up with all those silly reasons to be somewhere else when things started to happen
@@zilvertron That's fair, but in a more general sense this happens _a lot_ in superhero media and seems to be treated as a normal reaction. It just doesn't makes sense to me. It's like finding out someone you know is a secret agent or living under witness protection, and then getting upset because they "lied" to you.
Then you missed the point entirely. He IS Clark, but what he can DO is tied to Superman. He does so to help people for the sole reason that he can and to inspire others to try, not to get praised for it and that includes Lois. So if he had started to brag about it, he would only lowered himself and would be an immature brat and not something to look up to
Jefferson Pierce: Black Lightning is what I can do for Freeland. Jefferson is who I am. Oliver Queen: Green Arrow is what I can do for Star City. Oliver is who I am.
It’s not who I am but what I do that defines me- Batman to Rachel Dawes as she was instantly aware of who The Batman really is with that one line. Clark is the real face Superman is the mask Bruce and Clark are as different as night and day.
As a longtime Superman fan I originally thought this mindset was novel compared to what I saw in the Chris Reeve films, but nowadays I feel that approach is also short-sighted. True, the core of Kal-El’s character has always been the adopted farm boy, but that that’s not all there is to Clark. He is a culmination of all his experiences, and to me I feel that part of Clark’s arc should be finding a balance in all aspects of himself. He isn’t just Clark Kent, but Superman also isn’t just what he does. And unfortunately the idea of “Superman is what I do, Clark is who I am” has spread to other Superman adaptations which feel very limiting. And Lois’s flaw is that when it comes to Superman she is enamored with the *idea* of him, not the truth. When she calls Clark “Smallville” in some of those other adaptations there seems to be a touch of belittling in her tone, like Clark being an adopted midwestern kid is somewhat off-putting to her. Little things like that are what ultimately made me become a SuperWonder shipper instead of a Clois fan.

Bill is wrong.
@@MansMan42069 Dude don't argue for the sake of arguing...there's too much of that going around.

I grew up watching this show!
No other will be as amazing and original as this one was!
I tell ya Lois really needed to calm down here cause Clark did have his reasons for not telling her.
You expect Lois Lane to calm down ???? You don't her at all !
Yes, but imagine if someone that you are best friends with has made you believe that they are two different people for years. Her reaction was realistic, but she did get over it.
@@misspriss2482 Yeah true that, she still needed to calm down though.
@miss priss its sadder she couldn't figure it out.I mean he's disguise was glasses
Yeah, and there are a dozen times in this series where she lied to him.
Those movies were an incredible success and highly interesting, as well as being pretty much classics at this point.
I miss this show!
Great scene this is what made me a Superman fan Dean cain nailed it as Clark and Superman he made the character down to earth
These two are probably the best picks they could ever cast as Lois Lane & Clark Kent
*LOVE THIS SHOW!*
"You're a liar. Theres nothing worse." I dont know. Id rather be lied to than beaten, murdered, raped, or stolen from, especially if it was a lie about something that was none of my business anyway.
Yeah.....Lois is a bitch
Although, all those things can only happen because of lies, too
And rape hurts one person. A lie like "all white people are complicit in a system of abuse and owe you shit" can cause harm to millions

I'm pretty sure it was said to be dramatic lol
My favorite "Lois and Clark" episode of all time. Yay!
Surprisingly down to earth show.
Best show there is.
That's the best take on Clark/Superman out there. I hate, HATE, that Clark is the disguise, Superman is the real identity trope. HATE IT.
More chemistry and emotion in this one scene then Louis and Clark in the whole DCEU. Man I miss good old fashioned writing
The Lone Ranger lmao I just figured the kid never been in love or been in a fight with a girl in his life. Or maybe he just really loves the robotic acting of the DCEU with such classic lines as "I heard it's all downhill after the first kiss." And the ever so popular "save Martha!"
@jason lewis Okay so Smallville was fantastic then. WTF?!
Who's Louis?
Preach it!
Saturday nights during the mid 90's weren't complete without The new adventures of Superman.
It's not who I am but what I do defines me. -Rachel Dawes/ Bruce Wayne/ Batman.
This one scene beats the shit out
of ALL the DC movies combined.
Nope lol not anymore
well its a really good scene and dialogue, well acted aswell but what you said is too much of a stretch
She really is unreasonably dense. She was not listening at all as to why telling her that he is Superman is a terrible idea.
Well it's like married life remember when ray got in trouble fir taping the sports thing on there weddingvtaoe he said a ten years is enough Sahel problom
They just need to bang it out. She will forget about everything. Lol
One of my favorite episodes
A fundemental underatanding of his character. Superman is a good natured human before an all powerful godlike alien.
When 2 minutes from a cheesy 90's show does more justice to Superman than the modern 2 hour blockbuster.
Hell the pilot is my favorite live-action depiction to Superman's origin story and it doesn't even show Krypton's end, the arrival to Earth and Kansas, nor anything of Clark's teen years or global travels. Yet it's so perfect none of that was needed IMO.
Lol that’s so true
So well said!! 👏👏
"How can I ever trust you again"
Says the woman who was taking midday strolls being all lovely dovey with another man before she knew they were the same man.
One of the reasons why I always hated lois, she hypocritical and doesn't even realise it.
In the later movies she falls for Clark after confirming his superman.
I would have definitely tore Lois a new one
This is a wonderful episode and I’m thrilled I met dean and shared important details about my life with him I have all four seasons of Lois and Clark on dvd

And that sums up wat synder can’t do right Superman is not Jesus Superman is a guy called Clark Kent who was raised in a farm and because of his upbringing and powers became supes
Unfortunately, Zach went the movie route, where Superman _is_ Jesus.
Head-to-head, Cavill edges out Jesus in the suit, but Jesus has the better hair.
Have you had the fortune watching all the way through Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman?
Louise & Superman are literally recreating/inserting morphed lines from this show into theirs ... and its awesome. The new series pays homage to this series and brings something completely unique to the table on a, no joke, movie/HBO level budget. Its great.
She's actually pissed at herself for not being able to see through the glasses disguise. :P

@@zilvertron Your comment is spot on! 👍
@@r0bw00d it's also a difference of culture
Diana in the beginning always called Clark Kal-el instead of Clark because she respected his lineage but later called him back his adopted name because he really doesn't like the name Kal-el it's just not who he is.
she calls him that multiple times during the fight right after and once again when they fight steppenwolf(even during the snyder cut) because to her they are one and the same-as in she is her powers(trained from a super young age and grew into wonder woman and doesn't really hide herslef anymore after BvS)
so for her diana of themyscira, wonder woman and diana the woman who works at an art gallery is basically the same person
100% this is not the case for clark
he was basically never kal-el,doesn't even know what it means for him to be kal-el(as shown in man of steel) and superman is just his abilities(as shown in this clip)
the real person is the human clark because that's who he has been his whole life even if it wasn't 100% a ''normal'' human life
It honestly pisses me off when I see characters act like that to Superhero Identity reveals.
I'm too young for this show. It'd been out for some 11 years before I was born.
The Cast, was perfect.
Though, I'm sad they changed out the Jimmy from the First season. (Apparently he looked too much like Dean's Brother. Why they changed him out for that reason (Of that was the true reason) I'll have no idea)
CK never gets better than this
Saddens me.
Its a fad, sit down and wait. It will pass just like everything else.
This was THE line of the series.
so glad this is one of the series i grew up on
Superman, Batman, spiderman, Flash is who they are! Thier alter ego is the weak, rich playboy, geek, never on time CSI!

I'm old enough to have watched this show unironically, haha.
Christopher Reeve’s Superman was really him and Clark was the rouse.
That's how I see it too
THANK YOU. My god, finally a writer who gets it.
I am aware this show is from the 90s. I was referring ot the fact that accurate depictions of Superman in media are very rare. So it is nice to finally see one after so long.
It's the opposite for Batman.Bruce Wayne is what he can do,Batman is who he is.
Because Superman is Superman and Clark is Clark.
This was a good series back in the day.
I LOVE this scene!
...Is the episode where Tempus goes "One question has been asked through history...'Just how stupid *was*she??'"
yes it is
That's why she's so mad! She was fooled by a pair of glasses, an attitude and a change in the pitch of his voice. I'm surprised that she didn't figure it out earlier the time she saw Clark after a shower with the upper body strength he had. She noticed that, but didn't make the connection.
thats my favourite line
Technically, the word was “dumb”. But galactically stupid was also used.
Brilliant and love the classic mustang
It's the entire crux of the Superman character. He really is just a farm boy from Kansas. It doesn't matter that he's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, or can leap a skyscraper in a single bound. He's a Kent. His family is Martha and Jonathan. Humans are his family, and his friends, and Earth is his home. The only connection to Krypton is the Fortress, and the "S" on his chest. Superman is what he can do; Clark Kent is who he is!
I loved this show when I a kid.
I clicked this video just because of her hair. It’s gorgeous!
Dean didn't play Superman as a doofus.

You know, it honestly kinda annoys me when a superhero's loved one discovers what they do and is like: "I can't believe you lied to me!"
Like, really? You can't believe your _superhero_ boyfriend didn't tell you he's a _superhero?_ It's supposed to be some kind of major betrayal of trust that he didn't tell you his _greatest secret_ on like the first date? Do you even know what a superhero _is?_
Sure, Lois, he's a real jerk for not immediately trusting you - an investigative reporter - with incredibly dangerous private information about himself.

I would just start listing the times he had saved your life. In this show it was at least once a week.

Best line ever
