As a professional I recommend 3D-Coat for sculpting. On top of being fantastic for sculpting it handles retopology, uv mapping, and texture painting. Plus it's cheaper than many of the other options.
Long time Blender user (and ZBrush) and I just ordered my Prusa MK3S about 2 weeks ago. So glad you did this video. Also, don't forget CGBoost for Blender training!
EJ Tech and DIY Blender. It’s free and you can learn your way without paying for the software. Learn how to pan, move, sculpt, subdivide etc (the basics) then switch to the industry standard which is Zbrush (currently)
Wouldn't it be cool if they made Blender Sculpting for Virtual Reality? You could be in like a big empty room with basically every tool you could think of, sculpting out your thing like if you were clay sculpting in real life!
Yess it’s soo underrated!! I kept telling my instructor medium is powerful and he just wants me to stick to zbrush and maya even when modeling simple stuff😂😂
Josef- I enjoy all of your videos, and the use of CAD is no exception. I do like Blender & Meshmixer, but I recently got Geomagic FreeForm+ and love it (expen$ive as it is!). Wishing you continued success.
Hello, I would like to start 3d sculpting, and I've found your video very useful. But which device should I use? I have a problem with the right hand index tendon so I would avoid using mouse and sculpting on computer/Mac. what should I do?
I discovered sculptGL the other day. Very similar to zbrush but obviously no installation necessary since it's web based. Also seems a lot simpler, and I mostly use it to tweak models I made in solidworks. Stuff that's organic that's nearly impossible to model in solidworks (or not easily).
Do we have to have low poly accurate topology kinda things for printing sculpting ? Or it must be high poly i think no one mentions that or i couldn’t understand it
Sorry, you kinda breezed through the part about "3D print a sculpt with retopo". So, I'm using Blender and sculpting a character its all manifold as one, I can 3D print the character without retopology? Is that correct?
You will probably have to remesh it tho and increase the polycount sinché the stl export does not always make a topology that can support sculpting and you will end up with a ton of artifacts that will make your life a living hell
I just found mudbox to be overall less optimized than zBrush (or blender but I've used its sculpting workspace only once so I'm not that sure) to be fair. I have an old pc but I can still work fairly smoothly on meshes that have more than 10 millions of polygons whilst on mudbox I have kind of a 4 million cap. Mudbox's map baking system is definetly easier than zBrush but still no thing compared to stuff like marmoset or substance so I wouldn't recommend using any of the two for this purpose.
I am a total newbie and if I want to learn blender for 3d printing. Should I take blender 3d modelling course or blender 3D sculpturing course? Thank you
It's really helpful to have at least basic knowledge of 3D modelling before goigng to sculpting. I'd suggest to watch a few tutorials on basic 3D modeling in Blender on RUclips and then taking the Sculpting course. - Mikolas
Cani paste in geometric objects onto or into the model? I want to make robots with rounded metal, but also with joints and gears which must be perfect. Is this possible in any of these sculpt programs?
Yes for sure! It's what I did in 1:58 :) Both Blender and ZBrush can import models, I suspect most of the other programs can as well. It's actually a pretty common workflow, to start with a model created with traditional modeling techniques. -Mikolas
is it posible to sculpt functional piecea made in fusiom 360 ? for instance if you want to make a 3d printer rc car whit a detailed sculpted body that still has to ride around and have a hood that opens?
Title is misleading. I already know about digital sculpting software, the title implied this was a tutorial how to digital sculpt for the purpose of 3d printing in itself.
Twice over a period of 6 months. I have tried to order a replacement part for my prusa, which I bought from Prusa. Each time I could not because there system requires a password to order a replacement part. I can never get it to accept a password even with there online chat help. Both times I gave up and found some clone type replacement on Amazon. Very frustrating.
the best video i found to introduce myself into Organic modeling, was one made by Benny (boyfriend of KamuiCosplay on youtube). where he introduces the basics of Blender for Pepakura... that Video showed me the basics and thanks to him, i could began using it... Altough my goto program is almost always Fusion360 xD

Very cool video! But I thought plumbuses were made with Schleem, a dinglebop, and fleeb juice
That was true before the Plumbus X technology eliminated the need for a schlomi.
M. Ch. Link to the plumbus X video
Such a comprehensive tutorial for modeling software. Really satisfying!

I have the same question lol

OMG CGBoost is amazing! and free thank you so much for the recomendation

They have that now and it's awesome
If you're gonna recommend people/channels, you really should add the links in your description, good info though thank you
jup but links to the channels are also in their blog :)
What a coincidence! I just picked up sculptris a couple days ago to pass the time! Will definitely enter that contest!
I've been looking for hours for a video just like this one. Thank you
Shout out to my VR Peeps using Medium for sculpting!
Yess it’s soo underrated!! I kept telling my instructor medium is powerful and he just wants me to stick to zbrush and maya even when modeling simple stuff😂😂
my prusa mini says it will arrive sometime very soon! I'm super excited!
Mine says it will arrive, like 2 weeks after my birthday.
A very comprehensive video, thanks!
And Blender 2.90 has mesh filters (sharpen, smooth and surface smooth) that allow you to clean up Photoscanned objects easily
Yasss blenderrrrrr!
SelfCAD is pretty decent choice for beginners when it comes to overall modeling. + you can always export files to other programs
Awesome video Josef; I started recently modeling and i love it
Thanks for the mention :)
it's well deserved.
Sculpt in vr is really the future!!

Nice, I'll definitely give it a try on my yoga laptop with pen, I didn't even think of sculpting when I got my printer
Woooowww... Plumbuses are every where
Awesome video!
I learn so much with ths, thnks guys !!
Is there an apple app version? And transfer to a 3D printer? I’d be very interested and would make my life so much easier
Hello, I would like to start 3d sculpting, and I've found your video very useful. But which device should I use? I have a problem with the right hand index tendon so I would avoid using mouse and sculpting on computer/Mac. what should I do?
Great video, thanks!
ITS A TRAP !
Awesome! I definitely need to step out of only making practical openscad models.
Nomad Sculpt is really great if you own an iPad.
Quick Note: you can also Model cars in CAD however you get into surface modeling and have to have intent with all the curves.
Interesting
Thanks for sharing👍😀
No mention of 3d coat just saying it’s pretty good.
What graphics card is good enough for this kind of work in 2022 ?
Meaning modeling and sculpting models for printing
I discovered sculptGL the other day. Very similar to zbrush but obviously no installation necessary since it's web based. Also seems a lot simpler, and I mostly use it to tweak models I made in solidworks. Stuff that's organic that's nearly impossible to model in solidworks (or not easily).

Yeah, retopology is mostly needed for animation, posing etc. For 3D printing, messy topology is usually not an issue. -Mikolas
Could I take something out of CAD software and sculpt things into it in the sculpting software? This would be great for action figures.
Sure, just export your file in a format that the softwares supports.
.stl files should do the trick
You will probably have to remesh it tho and increase the polycount sinché the stl export does not always make a topology that can support sculpting and you will end up with a ton of artifacts that will make your life a living hell
thanks
I tried sculpting some things on blender and i ended up with horrible things because i had no idea what to do but this information helped me alot.
Happy to hear that, thanks for the comment! :) -Mikolas
Huh, I always wondered how plumbuses were made.
Fusion 360 has sculpting too.
my personal preference is Mudbox (autodesk) but i am aware that it is unaccessible for most, i just have a students free licence :)
I just found mudbox to be overall less optimized than zBrush (or blender but I've used its sculpting workspace only once so I'm not that sure) to be fair. Everybody has a Plumbus at home!

Everything is possible with 3D modelling knowledge, and a nice Prusa 3D Printer on your side 🙂
Any decent iPad apps that work well with the pencil?
Nuno Sousa Forger app for iPad
Forge App for iPad. Fantastic.
"Forger" for ipad pro. Very cool app!
autodesk mudbox is pretty kool tool..its about a 100 bucks a year
There should be an option where we place another object in another printer and the printer scans it and copies it
Where can one find that claptrap model?
What tablet are you using at 6:30? Those additional buttons look really handy.
Huion WH1409. It’s great! But really really big, which can get a bit annoying if you don’t have space for it.
- Mikolas
Please can you make a affordable 3d resin printer for under £500.
Any good support-free minis out there?
There's a whole bunch, personally I really like Evan Carothers' minis (EC3D). He's done a few kickstarters and has a couple for free on thigni
Huh so that’s how a plumbus is made
It's a tarp!

Ipad Pro with Forger is a good alternative for 3D sculting.
Adobe Medium is the best imo

Yeah I suck at drawing and sculpting too but I managed to do some pretty amazing stuff with zBrush. So it's just a matter of exercise

Try their support people not a youtube video. You probably fucked the order.
Blender! FTW
That is NOT how you make a plumbus...
Can anyone sculpt my character
Blender has the most awkward, non-intuitive user interface I've ever seen in my life 👎😕 Sculpting in Cinema 4D works great, by the way.
Really, even the new one? I find the new user interface (2.8+) to be on par with other 3D modeling apps.
