  • We spent the day exploring Panama city, Panama and have some suggestions for things to do.
We started off at the Panama sign on the promenade that connects Casco Viejo to the newer part of the city. This is walking and biking area. We made our way to the old city from here.
Once in Casco Viejo we went to the Panama Cathedral which was under construction at the time. After that we went to the Plaza Francia to see the monument to the Panama Canal and also check out the amazing views.
After that we headed for lunch at a cute bookstore/restaurant called Papaya Planet and later we explored the outside of another church and the Plaza Tomas Herrera.
We then went to try delicious locally made chocolate at Oro Moreno. Lastly we went and tried some craft beer at La Rana Dorada.

Panama City, the capital of Panama, is a modern city framed by the Pacific Ocean and man-made Panama Canal. Casco Viejo, its cobblestoned historic center, is famed for colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical Palacio Presidencial and bougainvillea-filled plazas lined with cafes and bars. The Miraflores Locks offers views of ships traversing the canal, an essential shipping route linking the Atlantic and Pacific.
    Casco Viejo
Panama City’s hippest neighborhood is also its smallest. Just four avenues wide, Casco Viejo (literally meaning 'old quarter') is a UNESCO protected district and a barrio on the up. It wasn’t long ago that gangs patrolled these narrow brick streets and visitors kept far away, but these days the grand old colonial houses and crumbling pastel facades have become some of the capital’s most stylish addresses.
    Panama Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama is heir to the Cathedral erected by Pope Adrian VI in the great house of the Cacique Cémaco, when the Spaniards faced and offered found a population dedicated to Santa Maria la Antigua in 1510. In 1513 dictates the bula why Antigua is raised to the rank of dioceses and church to the rank of Cathedral, its first bishop was Fray Juan de Quevedo.
    Plaza Francia
At the tip of the southern point of Casco Viejo, this beautiful plaza pays homage to the French role in the construction of the canal. Its large stone tablets and statues are dedicated to the memory of the 22,000 workers who died trying to create the canal.
    papaya planet
    Plaza Tomas Herra
Plaza Herra sits on the edge of the more gentrified area of Casco Viejo and its clear it has seen more illustrious times. The surrounding buildings, many large residences originally, have beautiful facades but stand in disrepair apart from one or two rest
    La Rana Dorada
La Rana Dorada (“The Golden Frog”) is a craft-brewing operation that’s distinctly Panamanian. Their four distinct beers-a pilsner, a pale ale, a white beer, and a porter-are created at its Casco Viejo location, then served both there and at an accompanying pub in the northern end of the city. Despite its convivial English-style brewpub atmosphere, there’s a specific Central American pride brewed in with the hops-the operation even draws its name from a rare, endemic species of toad.
    Oro Moreno
Since August 2015 these companies jointly engage in the production of high quality chocolates in an integrated manner. ForestFinance cultivates about 150 hectares of a prestigious cocoa in Bocas del Toro, which is then manually processed by Oro Moreno in Panama City.

Panama City looks great, had no idea it was like this. Never look it up before, so a nice surprise. You should add some ‘Chasing a Plate’ lively food tasting description. We tried last week, it’s really a special talent to be so descriptive about the food you eat. Maybe we will use that footage in another video. At least it was fun to do and appreciate even more what you and they do while presenting all those lovely dishes to us!

I love Panama I'm half Panamanian and I visit my family about four times a year, It's a major party town for sure lol I never leave disappointed never ! I don't wanna sound like a pig but the girl are real easy lol, I usually stay at my uncles Penthouse in Punta Paitilla so any money I take is strictly party money ! So many Clubs, Casinos, Restaurants, and other thing is you will never run out of things to do I promise ! If you like beaches I'd recommend Gorgona, Coronado and Playa Blanca, now there are two islands I'd recommend and it's Taboga and Contadora.... So if I were you and you love fun I'd recommend you start making plans now !!! And when you get there walk up to your tour guide and say Que Xopa Pasiero ! It's slang but everyone talk slang in Panama as well as English so what ya waiting for book that vacation now !

LaTinoHustL91 Hello friends first of all Panama is a very safe place the use our currency and most people speak English ! Of hand I can't remember any of the clubs names probably because I was ranked ! Lol. You can take a taxi and they are dirt cheap and tell him near Paitilla the is a place called la Zona rosa and it's like four blocks of nothing but bars Clubs and restaurants ! It's a block away from Parque Urraca... And he will know we're you wanna go ! Just don't go into neighborhoods like Chorillo or El Maranon if you go in you may not come out ! Also try Casco Viejo its full of restaurants and bars as well , also try the Beaches they are beautiful and such clear water, you got Playa Gorgona, Playa Coronado and Playa Blanca they are only an hour away from Panama City.... If you'd like to know anything else just give me a shout and if I can help I will ! It's safe in Panama but just like anywhere else never let your guard down !!! Take care and God Bless You have fun......

Nice video, but let me tell you something about the real old Panama. The site that you visited is called CASCO VIEJO but it’s not the oldest Panama, in order to visit the older one you have to ask for the PANAMA VIEJO which is located near like 5 miles away from CASCO VIEJO. Actually the oldest church that you visited in CASCO VIEJO (Nuestra Señora de la Merced) was originally built in Panama Viejo but in 1671 Henry Morgan (yes, the famous pirate) arrived there and the gobernor at that time Juan Pérez de Guzman put fire to all the city so the pirates could not enjoy pillaging the city. After the attack and the fire, the old city PANAMA VIEJO layed totally destroyed, actually the cronicles say that mostly all the people fled to the sorrounding mountains because they were afraid of the pirates. After the atrack the people decided to rebuild the city but in a new place, that’s when in 1673 the CASCO VIEJO was built and you know a lot of stones from the old city were transported to this new spot, and the Church that you filmed (Merced Church) was transported from PANAMA VIEJO brick by brick and stone by stone to this new spot in CASCO VIEJO. If you want to read more about this attack, you can read ALEXANDER EXQUEMELIN CRONICLES. Cheers!!!

Thanks to you Anna and that wordeful video. Panama is amazing and has a lot of exciting places. There’s another place called Portobelo (1hr driving from Panama) located in the Atlantic coast, and this place was the real Atlantic port of Panama in the 1600’s. You can find many old fortresses there, like the fort of Santiago de la Gloria or the fort of San Jerónimo. Actually Morgan attacked also this place. 😀👍🏻

Yes no shorts in churches. Countries like the USA don't go by this but like 99% of other countries do. I wear those shorts that you can add pant legs to in case I see a church I want to go into, just carry them in a small bag with water and stuff.

Let me guess, You guys are from the States, right? Who in the right mind thinks that is going to walk into a church wearing Daisy Dukes? and ripped to boot.Oh, gosh, You wouldn't even be allowed to go in like that inside the St. Patrick Cathedral in NYC. I visited that same church with a group of people, we wore dress shorts{ men and women} and got in, no problem. I know you are on vacation and you want to feel comfortable, but dressing kind of sloppy? I see that in Europe all the time, Americans dress sloppy and not allowed into churches or museums, it's a shame when you travel that far and can not visit famous landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris or the Louvre Museum, because of your choice of outfit. Nice video though.

    • @DelightfulTravellers
      @DelightfulTravellers  5 лет назад

Guess again Jerry! It's not very hard to figure out where we are from, it says it in our bio. We're also NOT on vacation (we work and travel at the same time) and this is how we dress in warmer weather. Do we have more formal clothes? Of course we do.
We've never been turned away by a museum and often visit them while we travel the world. It's 2019 after all.. you don't have to have your shirt tucked in to go see art. As far as churches or cathedrals go, yes we'll wear appropriate clothing out of respect IF.. we plan to go in. We weren't planning to go in this one, we've been to so many as of late (including Notre Dame). You might need to google what Daisy Dukes are btw. ✌️ - Trevor
