Survival Skills 101: How to Survive an Animal Attack while Hiking or Camping!

- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
- In this video the Rhino shows you how to protect yourself against predators in the outdoors. I failed to mention to bring along pepper spray against predators and the use of a bell to scare away animals.
Please do not play dead against a black bear. You really need to fight for your life. You play dead against a Grizzly.
This is true. Black bear will eat you or destroy you and burry you later foe seconds.
Exactly! If you are attacked by a black bear, it's after you specifically to eat you. Fight for your life!
Will LaPage ń
Good to know thanks
There's no playing dead. Your dead like Red Dead Revolver Undead Nightmare.
Love the side note, "or just bring a gun". That works for ALL kinds of predators!
+patidallas22 Bearspray is the best thing to bring by FAR....once an animal gets a face full of it...it wont bother you anymore....bears cougars and moose....and be very self aware
a small fire arm.will just piss off a large bear..better to have a rifle
dunky dog As I just stated....Bear spray has been PROVEN as a better deterrent than any firearm....no need to KILL something when there are other means of dealing with it......
BEAR SPRAY IS BETTER.....
Jdevilist I’ve seen bears go right through bear spray
I live up in the Sierra Nevadas and I just bring a laser pointer if a mountain lion comes out at me I turn on the laser pointer entertained for hours if that doesn't work I keep some yarn in a bag
how to survive when you encounter the rhino
you subscribe him
+Ma. Liezel Mojica Thank you!
*If a bear attacks you ... you are fighting for your life. A bear WILL eat you alive if you stop fighting.*
*The rest of the advice is decent ... out of date, but decent.*
*You can look a wolf in the eyes ... and IF you can establish Dominance, it might not attack.*
*Wolf attacks are extremely rare anyway.*
Not as rare as you think. Read "4 seconds to impact". We are being lied to by the government on wild animal attacks and what is causing them and how often they might be occurring.
step 1.Ask Wolf what is the time
2.tell wolf what big nose he has
3.get insurance before he bow down your house
thank you for wasting part of your life reading this
Bears: black=fight back, brown=stay down, white=goodnight
Great video rhino! Please keep em' coming!!
To defend yourself from bears, wolves, and cougars bring a firearm, bear spray, and a kukuri knife for last resort.
using a good wooden stick is better for protection than a low definition walking stick made by a factory
hey rhino im having trouble making holes in wood when tool-makjing in the wild (ex for long bow making) without a drill. do you have a method for this. thanks.
If you're bad ass enough to just punch a cougar in the fucking face while it comes at you... You've got some balls of steel.
And, did you mention at 2:29 you use to get 'bit all the time' by a canine?
And then say that you use to hit them in the face? Dayum.
It is said not to play dead at all. Where did you get the walking stick? Does it collaps or stay in position? Seems a collapsable might not be as strong. Thanks
Can you demostrate with a Cougar?
This is all extremely sound advice that everyone should know, especially the non eye contact and deimatic display. I live in the woods and this has always worked for me.
Knowing bears is imperative. Carry bear spray and whistles! In bear country know the scat. Black bear scat has berry seeds and fur whereas grizzly bear scat contains bones, empty bear spray cans and whistles!
Thanks for the tip.
Very helpful video!!! Omg you saved my life!!! I AM SERIOUS NOW I AN NOT JOKING!!! I went hiking yesterday with my family and 3 wolves attacked us and we tried your tactic... It worked perfectly!!! Thanks!!!
+Valia 2305 I'm glad you lived! Thank you for letting me know!
Thank you for the useful info!
What to do if we encounter a leopard in the wild?
thank you so much... appreciated. ;)
We have a cougar on our property and a wolf or more down the road about a mile, thanks for tells me this stuff itll come in handy
Where did you get your information?
I am a native of the American southwest and I approve of this video
There was a trilogy of books written by James Gary Shelton. His first book, Bear Encounter Survival Guide is a must read if you are going to live in proximity with bears. That being said, if you are prepared for bear, you're prepared for anything.
Awesome!
Do you recommend trying to take a bears back vs. swinging with it? We're talking late defense..
Since Cougars mostly avoid people I kept it kind of short. Sorry
I saw a video of a woman entering her vehicle and suddenly being attacked by a jaguar or a tiger (I can't remember)
I'm going on vacation to a place full of jungle and I'm a little worried about that.
I was listening to it not watching and didn't see the annotation. Sorry about that. great vid Mr. Owen.
And this is why I plan on taking at least 2 guns with me when I camp one for conceal carry and then the big hitter the mini draco in a backpack
If you come across a dangerous animal you should pull down your pants and fart in it's general direction. This should distract the animal long enough for you to pull up your pants and shit in them.
im crying
Thank you.
personally i go in the bush and when i do I like to bring things like yes a baton or more serious sticks with nails through it or a bat. Also having bear spray is also very handy if you are able to have that within reach of an attack. Also if you may have a firecracker or cherry bombs with you, you can set them off as you are walking through to scare any animal away so you are forcing them away from you, which will result in less encounters.
Firecrackers will scare any animal within a 100m+ those things a fricking loud.
Given the Ju Jitsu stuff advertised on your shirt, I was expecting to see you demo how to throw a bear over your back, grab his paw, then bend it backwards until he begged you for his release.
Don't lay on the ground if you're against a black bear. Punch them in the face.
If it's a grizzly stay big, but if it attacks then play dead and it might go away.
Nick Dalme with grizzlies stay submissive don’t look big because they might get pissed but black bears you are supposed to get big I think you got them confused BUT if the grizzly makes no sound you fight back because grizzlies make these awful huffing sounds when in danger but when hunting they are mostly silent
@@oldjuicebox8198 we can gouge human eyes out as well, how often is that successfully done?? No way you can succeed pulling that off.
Yes =)
Ty i appreciate it i already knew all of what you said and the walking stick is great if you have an acutel wood stick sharpened at one end a spear will help even more plus take bear spray ive herd that wven a cat or a wolf they will stop if you hit them with bear spray . a gun is a choice if you like self defense oh and me i always have a big spear and my rambo knife with .
Good thanks
I had a nightmare like 10 minutes ago and i was surrounded by wolwes on a sandy parking thing in the forest trying to hit them with my bag
If I saw a cougar in the woods I don't know if i'd be able to resist the temptation.
do you recommend to carry a Pistole or is bear spray enough to protect me against any wildlife ? i just moved to Idaho and wanna start going hiking. thanks for answer.
+huntii Guns..lots of Guns...
+huntii
if you know how to use a handgun. Then it might be alright. If you're a noob at shooting. Bring the spray. It had a wider range and so it is more likely to hit the target.
Hey you have to cover up for a cougar as well, one swipe across your neck can open your artery, if they get a beck bite you're in big trouble, sure you can hit them, but sometimes they're on-top of you before you know what's going on, they're stealthy... Also running away goes with Bears and Cougars also, not just Wolves... NEVER RUN!!! Also, it's always better to not hike alone...
One thing that I always carry with me is bear spray.
Wild Boar and Javalina?
We own 1800 acres in west Texas. We drive out there from Dallas to go hunting all the time. We have mountain lions out there, we see their prints and hear them all the time, but they are like ghosts, you never see them. Fortunately, we all are armed to the teeth when we are out there. Ive had encounters with coyotes , they are never a bother, they run away. Ive seen black bears when hunting in Florida, one got within 20 feet of me before it realized I was there. It tore ass away as fast as it could.
Why not just carry bear spray and a 44 Magnum.
@WACHO : Then you are playing a game of "Russian roulette" with your life. I hope you keep winning. But ancient drawings indicate spears with cross pieces to keep the bear from fighting down the spear may work.
Or a Taser.
while antler hunting, we ran into a bear and it's cubs, and all They did was ran up a tree. But we just looked and walked off. we didn't want to bother them.
What's black and runs faster than wolves? Usain Bolt.
Good advice, and a funny joke ;) .
I tried the cougar one.
I got slapped...
How about a boar spear instead of a walking stick, can be used as a walking stick and is alot better for defences
black bears won't stop particularly if they are hungry. the advice against the cougar is fine, except when you find out that one is there, it's got it's teeth in your throat... good luck punching it loose. wolves come in packs. you're best bet, if you have to fight, go after the alfa-male. the others follow his lead and you may confuse the rest if you can run it off. the best way to avoid attacks is stay out of their domain. a gun may save you if you have time to draw it, and flip off the safety, and chamber a round.
You kind of went too quick on the cougar part. There is 3 stages of defense. You did 2 and 3... Firstly..if you're at a safe enough distance, you should slowly and quietly back away facing them and seem as non threatening as possible and leave. You only use 2 if you're too close and too late and they seem threatening. i'd get a stick and try to stick it down its throat or in it's eyes. Park rangers here in CO estimate that a cougar sees you on 2 out of every 10 of your hikes. They avoid people.
scratch everything this guy said, never go into the woods without a gun.
true
Pepper spray.... that's the best... take both
Not everyone has a gun. Need other options. Loud air horn? Hornet spray, bear spray? Suggestions? Thanx
Susan Pratt ... 100 percent take Bear pepper spray... Udap is a good choice ...
funkyflights Thanx🙂
Hit that cougar!
Last week I was hiking and there was a bear napping on the side of the trail. It saw me before I saw it. It jumped to it's feet and took off through the bush. If it had come towards me at the speed it took off, I wouldn't have stood a chance. My pepper spray was in my backpack. Big mistake.
You never play dead for a black bear you fight like hell cuz they'll eat you if you don't not for Grizzly you do played at love your videos I just wanted to put that out there
I suppose you didn't watch all the way to 3:32?
How to survive an animal attack.
EDC a 10mm
But the problem is, if a wolf or big cat so much as scratch you, you're in for a world of pain and serious injury, which will almost certainly render you vulnerable and get you killed. Getting into a physical fight with a wolf is incredibly dangerous, and dependant almost entirely on how quickly you can hurt it by kicking it or some other means before it leaps on you. If you can scare it off quickly, great. If it gets you on the ground, you're dead. And if it's a very large, heavy wolf, there's no fighting it.
You're right that big cats don't like to fight. That's why they don't; they ambush. Chances are, you'll never even see it coming before its jaws crush your skull. Unless it's a BIG big cat, like a mountain lion or Siberian tiger. But if you manage to piss off one of them, you've already made your final mistakes.
Same goes for bears. Anything other than a cub is too big and powerful to fight. You say to cover your neck with your arms, but how long can you withstand having your arms ripped to pieces and your bones crushed by its teeth and claws?
Your last piece of advice was your best: shoot them, or stay the hell away from their habitats.
But wolf attacks on humans are *extremely* rare, and there’ve been only 2 documented human fatalities from wolf attacks in North America since such documentation has even existed. Moot point.
Mountain lion attacks, on the other hand, average more than 1 per year, with nearly 25% of those being fatal. Here in Colorado, mountain lion and black bear attacks are not uncommon, but the most dangerous animal is *moose* - who are huge, fast, unpredictable, and can be aggressive for no reason whatsoever- with some of those attacks being fatal as well. Elk and deer also gore their share of unwitting tourists and newcomers who approach them, thinking they’re like Bambi! 😂😉
they don't chase after you when you run because you can't fight back they do it cause its will think your pray cause pray runs away from them
i was not expecting just the talking video.... Even i can give tips to survive just by talking.. 😂 i believe on those who have actually proof that they survived that attack 😊
There was a coyote at my daughter's school today. The coyotes are a problem since we live on a farm. They love to eat our chickens. We did have a cougar attack and kill a goat about eight years ago.
+LadybugGirlShow You kick a coyote in the azz and tell him to "git"
The coyotes no longer bother my chickens on our farm. I decided the best option was to lock up our animals in fenced areas which has ensured they are safe from coyotes. The coyotes were terrible when I was free-ranging it.
Carry a side arm or Bear spray. Wolves respect humans... there's been about one person killed by a Wolf in 200 years... cats are the most dangerous, then Grizzly/Brown Bear... then Black Bears.
Im less concerned with mountain lions cause they’re pretty small for the most part and extremely rare to come by. They also hunt alone. A bear is very scary thats why every hiker should carry bear spray. Sometimes theyll come in packs too. Wolves are pretty dangerous but if you keep your distance and gain some high ground you should be fine. Wolves also tend to only go out at night so they are pretty rare to run into. A moose is really dangerous. They are pretty aggressive and they will do anything to defend themselves against a threat. Never go near a moose but if you end up having to go up against one mean bull then try to anticipate when theyre going to charge and always keep your distance by slowly walking backwards
Yes! Moose are extremely dangerous, responsible for more attacks on humans in Colorado than any other wildlife! I was attacked in my yard a few weeks ago, even though I’m always very careful. Lucky to have escaped serious injury. However, mountain lions aren’t ”extremely rare to come by.” Not here, even in the Denver/Boulder Metro area suburbs and some downtown neighborhoods. I’m in a mountain town and hear them in our backyard frequently. Have also seen them several times in the neighborhood, mostly in the woods. We avoid being on trails during early morning, evening, and at night, to minimize encounters and are extra vigilant outside our house during those hours. Not so small, either, weighing up to 200 lbs.
All depends where you live. Cats get big, they are sneaky and quiet. They see you but you don't see them until they go after you.
A 200 lb cat on your back is almost impossible to handle..I would push them out of the area with dogs if I had a cat problem. They also make great steaks I've heard, tasting like pork chops.
Wolves can't climb trees, so they are the only one of the three you can possibly escape to safety from...
+Jimmy Incredible only if they are not friends with a beaver
How do you survive lions and tigers?
+Kali Alexander Be faster then your friend.=)
+MySurvivalSkills101 wow
+Kali Alexander Don't go where there at for starters....lmao
+MySurvivalSkills101 jeez....wouldn't want you for a friend...you don't make a very good 1....lmao
+MySurvivakSkills101 .. no, but really man? is there no way out? thats frightening and sad.. so thankfully i don't regret being the boring nerd behind my computer, instead of being those adventurous people 'living' their lives to the fullest.
wolves not endangered..they just avoid humans harder to find.tons in canada
thats good news thanks
A knife and flame torch
I liked this just for the cougar joke, well done!
Instead of the pole, may I suggest a .357 perhaps a 10mm.
you talked about grizzly bears but not black bears. Either way bear spray is your best option in a bear attack because its extremely painful and blinds them.
What about a rutting bull moose?
I just carry my handy dandy RPG for walks in the woods, problem solved
He would be wearing a jiu jitsu. Oh geez i bet he thinks a RNC is a great attack on a bear
I think playing dead only works for grizzly's...I think jiujitsu might be more your thang.
Put a picture of a face with eyes on it on top and on the back of your bike helmet. The Indians in India living amongst human-eating tigers do that...big cats(except lions)like to get the drop on you. If they think you've spied them out, they'll likely choose something more unsupecting to eat...
What if it's a pack?
Jacob Sullivan if you have any food throw it at them then climb a tree dogs cant climb well and if they follow kick them with tour feet.when heading throwards a tree walk slowly so they dont run after you.
Jacob Sullivan and dont throw the food put it down slowly also i made alll of this up so you probably shouldnt trust me .but i think thst might eork
Good topic, not the best advice.
Fight back. And trekking poles are not for hitting. They have no strength hitting. They are for poking. Poke and jab. Also, get things in between you and them like your pack.
Play dead and risk being so. If it's on top of you, fight. Go for it's hunting tools, eyes and ears. Especially important with cats because you won't see them until they are on top of you.
Be big and loud is good. Throw rocks. Grab stick, spear. Get things in between you and them. Back away slow. Never "go in for a closer shot".
Yes on pepper spray and gun in bear country. Side knife for close encounters.
Most of all, be smart.
Best way to stay safe from all animals... let’s be real when you come face to face with a animal you not gonna do what you say you gonna do as u think about it at home... stop lying to people 9 times out of 10 u won’t even see the thing coming.... best way to stay safe from all animals is to never be out there in the 1st place... your welcome
I always carry my 12 gauge single shot when I'm hiking in the Shoshone national forest I even gotr a cabin up there I hike to and into town for food abnd heater fuel
Wolves thank your pray when you run you should look what is the the eyes simply because they’ll think it’s a territorial challenge
Or like use the stick to poke the coger
what if it is a tiger your screwed then
+T1ger Cat I think I might agree. =)
if you carry a pistol can you shoot
+brettduffy19992 Yes.
There's a big difference between what to do if its a brown bear vs a black bear!!! Different tactics must be used. This video is being irresponsible not pointing that out.
I have one thing to say 10MM
Wolf's are not endangered in bc Canada matter fact there is way to many of them and of you see them you are allowed to kill as many as you can lol they destroyed out caribou population and slowly killing all other game in the province
I have a crowbar
well this guy's going places, not Harvard but, places...
Crowbars are only effective in crow attacks.
What about bobcats?
Or jaguars.
+Jessica T u r dead meat! :D
Aditya Bodhe 😆Lucky for me that jaguars are more down south and the chances of running into one in Oregon is slim to none. Although the wolves, bears, and pumas aren't any better.😒😨😵
+Jessica T When I trek, I carry some rags draped up at the end of wooden stick with me and a couple of lighters and a knife for last resort(never really used any).
wild cats hate to see that they can be hurt, too. They love to see your vulnerability. Carry a wooden stick and set the rags on fire asap. Do not run away, it's useless. Rather look strong and cat should think it has a fight ahead and it backs off. :D
Best thing, Carry a trumpet with you, loud loud one. blow it as hard a s you can, lion, tiger, jaguar, leopard, cheetah will be scared.
Suggest me if you have other simple solutions
Aditya Bodhe Oh yeah, I use to teach young adults about wilderness safety and part of that was about wild animal safety and preparation. I camp all year around so I always have a supply of bear spray, which is basically advanced pepper spray. I just watch these videos to see it there is anything new to pick up on, and, if it's a poor source of info, to get a good laugh out of it.
haha on cougar.
Aaaw man! Since you know so much why no demonstrations?? With real Cougars, bears and all
prove it don't just talk.
The rhino hahaha no mames
don't go camping
If you ftght a wolf grab its neck and poke their eye hard.
Why do they need illuminati in this!
I would carry a bow and arrows
Good luck with that. When an angry/hungry cougar attacks it will be a LOT faster than you'd believe. You have NO chance of hitting the animal with an arrow unless you're carrying it in your hand.
can you shoot
+Brett Duffy yes again...
Has this guy ever even been in black bear territory?! Dangerous misinformation! NEVER play dead if a black bear attacks! FIGHT!
www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm
“Black Bears: If you are attacked by a black bear, DO NOT PLAY DEAD. Try to escape to a secure place such as a car or building. If escape is not possible, try to fight back using any object available. Concentrate your kicks and blows on the bear's face and muzzle.”
How about being armed? I would not be in the woods without at least one gun and a decent knife, or anywhere else for that matter. EVER.
