Frighteningly beautiful. Poor Alison seemed to be almost asphyxiated at the end…she did it though. What a fantastic performance of a beautiful piece. I hope she records it soon…🎶🥰
Excellent performance of a new trumpet concerto. The beginning a lot of lyrism. I like the staccato in the middle section. The finale is very virtuos and very very demanding. For the audience this has to be like being in a thriller. Will the soloist survive? Happily Alison Balsom managed it to the end, brava!
Super gra świetnie uzyskane dźwięki jak by nie z tej galaktyki. Jesteś świetna kocham twoje wykonanie ,odsłuchuje już kilka krotnie ten utwór dziękuję Ci za tak świetna muzyke
Wonder who wrote this had Alison in mind?! “Let’s see who we can make them hate their instrument after they attack this!” Well…she did this justice and that’s an understatement!!! Love your music, Alison!❤
very demanding but also very beautiful (last 5 minutes, it is clear that Alison obviously almost runs out of breath, still she could execute it to the end; applause!
To be able to play such difficult and boring music so perfectly, really deserves to be a god-level beauty trumpet master!
I’ve listened to this several times, and it appears that this is not music appropriate for trumpet. The composer does not know how to write music for the trumpet with an understanding for how players breathe, or instrument range. There are beautiful moments, but lots of unsettling sounds and unpleasant instrument combinations. Something just isn’t right.
@@afchevalier i agree the writing for trumpet is just brutal and unidiomatic, but I still think the piece itself is one of the most beautiful things i’ve heard
@@zgart I just couldn’t find the Joie. With a title like one would expect French impressionist music in the style of Ravel. Obviously, this piece was commissioned by some entity that had a huge stake in promoting it. Haven’t heard from the composer since the arrival of this piece.

Sometimes I think Chen's music is like those by Brahms. The more you listen to it the more you agree with the composer's approach to its presentation and its internal logic. The only unsatisfactory part of this new work in my opinion is the ending. Chen's concertos sometimes have bombastic endings that would beg more refinement and thus may sound coarse to some ears. This is probably one of them, and the wonderful piano concerto "Er Huang" suffers the same problem. However, he puts much more thought into the cello concerto so the ending for that one sounds very natural.
He revised the score earlier last year and has added an extension to the ending which is full of drive. You can find the recording of this new edition on his website. www.chenqigang.com/works.php
I actually prefer the original version since the new stuffs added apparently are recycled off "Luan Tan". It's so blatant. And I think what I meant is the climax is a bit coarse, not entirely the ending, which follows shortly after the climax. The issue with the climax is it's stretched too thin with a very monotonous orchestral support (plus, some counterpoints are just weird).
The way Chen builds up to the climax can be seen in almost every one of his pieces, but I do agree that the orchestral support to the climactic return of the main theme is not as astounding as it should be. Not sure if you have listened to his orchestration of "Instants d'un Opera de Pekin", which I think is one of the structurally successful examples of this logic.
Only a brass player can really appreciate how demanding this piece is. An astonishing feat of stamina but so musical right to the very end. Terrific.

Playing a trumpet like this is like mud wrestling while making diamonds. Easy for Alison? Maybe. Love her work. ❤

Oh yeah I heard it on HD-hall and it's excellent! That's a hit since the original piano version is very colorful and animated as well.
