My "N7" has pride of place on my desk. The #6F on this one made my day. Fine/dryer line on multiple paper types, which for my writing, is the sweet spot.
Well, well, well... I ordered one of these with the Fine nib after checking out your review & rec'd it today. Inked it up with some kon-peki Iroshizuku blue & I'm thoroughly impressed. As the kids say... this thing punches above it's weight!! The fine nib lays down the perfect amount of ink for me... right in the Goldilocks range!! Not too dry, not too wet. Its impressive when you think about the level of quality a pen company can maintain at the $20 to $30 range. I'm currently making notes on a job I'm bidding on a cheap Staples recycled yellow note pad paper and this thing just sings!! Can't wait to try it out on my Clairfontaine notepad. I believe we all subconsciously become pen snobs as we go down the fountain pen rabbit hole. Pens like these in this price range tend to snap us back to some sense of reality. What you get for what you pay is very impressive.
I just received the Hongdian 517D Matte Black, and it's a really nice writer. The body has soft rubberised feel, which might not make it a good travel pen. Your one looks interesting, might have to get one.
The image at the top of the finial is three dragons circling a figured ring. A very cool detail contrasting to the linear minimalism of the design. It’s easier to see in the matte silver version.
I have a Hongdian a3 with a long blade nib and it is one of the best pens for drawing that I have in my collection. The ink that covers both the nib and the body of the pen is not of good quality, but the set for the size, price and practicality of the pen makes up for the quality. I don't know if the new versions have improved the quality of the pen's paint finish.
I've been rather enjoying my A3 and that Long Blade Nib (I got the Black model as well). I've had mine for just about a week now, and have not run into any issues so far.
I recently got a Hongdian 1862 in green and paired it with Montverde olivine. It's a lovely little pen and it writes really well. only complaints are that the cap flares out at the top unnecessarily and the nib doesn't have the much 'control' which some people will absolutely love but not my personal taste.
Nice overview of the A3, thanks! The pen is OK looking. I might be more interested in wilder colors than what Hongdian seems to be offering. But, that nib is definitely much more interesting to me. I have been pleased with the two other Hongdian pens I have now and it seems I will be adding a third.
Hi DB!: That's a pretty cool pen! The nib grind is VERY interesting! You know, it's funny how different pens from the same manufacturer are sometimes polarizing. You may hate one pen in a company's line and LOVE another. Part of the personal preference thing, I guess.
I really like most Hongdian nibs. The nib on the Qin Dynasty is great and I absolutely LOVE their long-blade nibs. I don't like fine nibs but my Qin Dynasty is closer to a medium. I stacked up some coupons and got the D1 Skeleton pen for a good price. It only came in F or EF. I'm not crazy about that one. It's nice and smooth but too fine for me. When I change it, you can have it. I'll get in touch and send it. I'll never use it and you'll probably love it.
Nice video as always! would love to see a review of the Asvine v126 as it seems to be pretty good. Also, I really enjoy when you get nit picky with the pens and how they are made, so keep it up!
I bought the V126 too, and it arrived this morning. I went for it after watching my other favourite pen reviewer ruclips.net/video/6s0SJwHjoX0/видео.htmlsi=YmmieK2RulFuCA_r
Gm sir i wanted to request you if you could do a video on smoothening the cap threads of a fountain pen cap if they require extra force to tighten and also how to prevent a metal pen body unscrewing from the grp section while writing. Love your videos and your insight on products really lovely. Thank you
I got a HongDian 1851 in Teal with the long knife - I LOVE it. Only thing is the feed is misaligned so the ink flow doesn't match my writing speed, coming out lighter as time goes by. There are no videos on RUclips on how to remove them, they're in there TIGHT. Definitely want more 1851s though, they're amazing pens.
Thanks for the review, never head of this brand before. I've been looking for an affordable entry into architect style nibs, as I only write in block letters for math and engineering. Definitely going to pick one up!
I'm rather a fan of HongDian, but I don't have an A3. Partly because it's nothing exciting, and they have more interesting models. But I am sure it's a lovely writer. And I've never tried a longblade nib...
Another awesome review! Do you know of a way to contact Hongdian directly? I have a Hongdian fountain pen not purchased via Amazon that I have a question about. Thanks!
It sort of looks like the Naginata but doesn't behave like one. The Naginata changes line thickness as you vary the angle. A lower writing angle gives a wider cross line. With this longblade, the cross line is thickest at a specific angle and is thinner when the angle is increased/decrease which is how an architect nib behaves.
Hongdian grips are too steeply narrowing. I end up too tightly pinching trying to keep my fingers from sliding around. It's a shame, because otherwise well performing pens.
Wow. That was strange. The ad I got before this video was for some sort of automatic fellatio device or something or other. Never have I ever seen an ad like that nor did I ever expect to see something like that on RUclips. And I know it’s not from no type of cookies cause ain’t nobody here ever look for some kind of device like that before. Hope the FP content can bring me back cause that ad made me feel dirty. I was sitting next to my 8 year old son for God’s sake.
Hmm that is odd. I've seen those ads pop up on YT as well. Even some are in the shorts videos for the same things. Strange YT allows those on the platform.
Anyone in the comments happen to know what the moonman M2 is nowadays called by any chance? (Ive melted my feed under hot tap water 🫠had no clue this was possible haha)

I'm glad this one was a good experience for you.
Me too
I have a Hongdian N6 piston filler with a long knife, which I really like. It’s a bit wider if you are looking for that.

Looks good, but I'd prefer it in a deep purple rather than black.
Smoooooooooke on the waaaaaaater, a fire in the sky……
@@theannoyinghistorian1812 I was meaning the colour, but if it also plays that every time you uncap it, I'm in! LOL

@@Doodlebud sir what about an ebonite pen
Great video! I haven’t tried a HongDian pen yet but this one sure looks good.

This is a favorite pen. I have to do printing on a daily basis, this pen makes it pleasant and aesthetic
Looks like a Lamy Imporium copy, or at least i think that's where it gets it's inspiration.

Yup I like this style of nib for block letters. Its almost impossible for me to print any other way after years of engineering
The long blade is more suitable for Chinese character writing..
I have the silver with rose gold trim but haven't tested it just yet.
Ink it up already!

Reasonable price and a good way to try out a different nib type

I do have a back channel, let me check with them and see about the best way 😉

I thought that Long Blade nib is china's take on the naginata togi nib? (Not just architect nib.)

Does the section not trap ink when filling from a bottle?
All pens fill the section when you bottle fill
@@Doodlebud yes yes. I mean the ring of the outer section holds ink making it difficult to get all of it off when wiping it off. Inky fingers.
So much subjectivity in fountain pens it difficult to shift the wheat from the shaft.
does it leave anything at the back of normal a4 page?
does it have a number 6 nib?
No its a smaller size nib, #5 I think
