Here's a tip: Get stronger on the bike. The stronger you are on the bike the easier your run will be.

If you're new to running, add strength and conditioning sessions in. Within 6 weeks when I starting running I had to take 3 weeks off with an ankle problem

We strongly recommend including strength and conditioning training in your weekly schedule. If you can be consistent (say 2 x 30 minutes per week), you will improve your balance, range of motion, strength and resilience to cope with the stress of endurance training. It also helps to follow a plan that progressively increases your running volume so that the chances of injury are less, too.

One thing Brownlee can attest to is the prevalence of injuries. Instead of emphasizing speed above all else, why not prioritize an injury prevention approach from the start? While most people will never become Olympic athletes, they still strive to be healthy and strong. The current metrics and standards are inadequate for achieving or even defining these more attainable and meaningful goals.

I strongly recommend including strength and conditioning training in your weekly schedule which is why I include those programs for free for our athletes. Not only does it help minimise injuries when done consistently, it also helps with performance. So it's a double-win.
